Good news for former Cat Patrick Patterson: the Houston Chronicle is reporting that he will likely start for the Rockets this season.
The preseason also will be about final evaluations on contract decisions. The Rockets have until Oct. 31 to extend the contracts of Patrick Patterson, JaJuan Johnson and Marcus Morris for the 2012-13 season.
Patterson is likely to be the starting power forward. Morris and Johnson were first-round picks in 2011, and it is exceedingly rare for teams not to exercise their first options on extending rookie contracts.
Last season, Patterson averaged 7.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game after recovering from an offseason ankle injury. He recently told Rockets.com that his goals for the upcoming season were to be the starting power forward (check) and make the All-Defensive Team.
Get ‘em , PPatt.

What happened to the Houston Forwards? Thought they had about 12 of them.

Houston is going to need to trade away somebody, they have about 7 power forwards: Jon Brockman, Patrick Patterson, Terrence Jones, Jujuan Johnson, Marcus Morris, Royce White, and Montajeunas. Even Chandler Parsons could play PF although he’s probably more of an NBA SF.

they have plenty of guards, too – http://www.nba.com/rockets/roster/2012
1 center, 3 center/forwards, 6 forwards, 3 forward/guards, 7 guards

PP got plenty of love while at UK, but somehow I still think he is one of the most underrated players in recent UK history. Glad to see him doing well in the NBA.

“Houston, you have a problem” namely way too many players. They traded away Sciola and several bigs thinking they were getting Dwight Howard. Good for PPat, he deserves a shot to start and will live up to his desire to make the all-D team and will score and rebound all of Linsanity’s missed 3′s.

Yay for PPat! But he’d better watch out for T Jones! Good luck to both.

#6. Totally agree. Patterson was the heart & soul during his three years. If he stayed a fourth year, we probably would probably be working on title #10. Good for Patterson though. Hope he stays in the NBA for many seasons.

My man crush on all things PP continues!
What a quality young man and a genuine hero for UK during the Darkness of BCG.
So great he got to play for a year under a real coach with quality teammates.
Quality teammates only if you consider John Wall a better PG than Michael The Perv.
GO PATRICK, continue to make the BBN proud.
See you in the rafters one day!

Lots of quality PFs in Houston. If it wasn’t for his anxiety attacks, Royce White should break into the line-up along with Terrance.
Problem is the rookies are playing behind guys with NBA experience so how many minutes can be spread around?

Good job Pat!
