There are many reasons that Kentucky under John Calipari has been a juggernaut in these past three seasons. Much of the credit of course goes to Calipari, who “gets it” like virtually no other coach in America. But his Assistants have also done tremendous jobs, including John Robic (who handles much of the opponent scouting), Kenny Payne (recruits tremendously) and Rod Strickland (working with players). Also in that group is official KSR friend Orlando Antigua, who has been a tremendous recruiter during his UK tenure. Orlando is always there with a smile and loves coaching in Lexington.
The picture above shows Orlando prior to his Lexington days however, when he was a Harlem Globetrotter. I love everything about the program page above (sent in by a reader), including that he lists “surfing the net” as a hobby. It just goes to show that back in his formative days, when Orlando was not going to Five Star Basketball Camps or learning the bucket of confetti trick, he was probably on Prodigy and Compuserve, getting ahead of the curve to prepare for his great future.

I think he will be the man to replace Cal. I hope we have learned through the “Joker fail” that just allowing your coach in waiting to due just that wait will fail. Hopefully Barhart will study C.M. Newtons handling of Tubby as a blueprint. Tubby was hired at Tulsa and Georgia due in large to strong recommendations from Newton after he had considered Tubby to be Pitino’s replacement. This will allow Coach O to learn how to run a program from the big seat and allow for him to work out some of the mistakes you get when changing jobs. It also would allow UK to make sure he is head coaching material instead of just a great assistant. How much better would our football be today if Barnhart had done this with Joker?

Lmao I found that book at a peddlers mall while I was killing time. The people inside thought I was crazy when I started to laugh out loud.

@4 What do you mean “Tubby was hired at Tulsa and Georgia due in large to strong recommendations from Newton after he had considered Tubby to be Pitino’s replacement”? Tubby took the Tulsa job in 1991 and then went to Georgia in 1995. Are you telling us that C.M. Newton had already selected Tubby in 1991 to take over for Pitino? Pitino had just started at UK and Tubby had ZERO head coaching experience so I really doubt that Newton had plans on him being the next coach at UK back in 1991…Newton may have recommended Tubby for the Tulsa job but I don’t think it had anything to do with him having already been selected as UK’s next coach. Tubby went to Tulsa and did well so Georgia came calling based on his success at Tulsa. Then when Pitino left for Boston, Newton wanted Tubby based on his success at Tulsa and Georgia.
