Jared Carter out 3-4 weeks

Carter out 3-4 weeks with a separated shoulder. Looks like the Woo train has to continue rolling off the station….

  1. Tom Gray Says:

    C Morris 30 minutes, Woo 10 as back-up.

    We R fine.

  2. hi Says:

good thing perry stevenson’s strength is defense. even though we lose a body, it’s a good thing we don’t lose any offense.

  3. Crow Says:

Woo must step up and fill the spot of disappointing moping big white guy vacated by Carter. I think he can do it.

  4. Give OH a Grammy Says:

    I like Woo.

  5. Walls Says:

    wah wah wee WOO!

  6. UKfan215 Says:

Thank goodness Sheray will be able to return after the Miami (OH) game. We will need an extra body inside.

  7. TomS Says:

    C Morris 30 minutes

Anyone have any stats on how many times Morris has been able to stay in a game that long?

  8. glord Says:

RED - SHIRT RED - SHIRT RED - SHIRT. I have not given up hope yet on Carter but I would love to see a redshirt year for him.

  9. Han Says:

This means that Stevenson (and potentially Coury) will see a lot of minutes inside against Miami (OH). If Thomas were out longer, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Stevenson in the starting lineup with Woo coming in off the bench for Morris.

  10. ba1 Says:

#7 So far in his career, Morris has played 30+ minutes a game only six times (10.9%).

I don’t think there is any possible way we can count on him for 30 MPG on a regular basis.

  11. ba1 Says:

Last year Morris ended up with at least four fouls in roughly 50% of his games played.

  12. glasgowcat Says:

Do you think Woo continues to start?

  13. JasperMeeks Says:

Move Perry back to PF and let Meeks play SF.

  14. Nathan Rice Says:

I think this means that Stevenson almost has to start because if Woo and Morris play together, you have no one else to play the 5.

  15. Drunk Irishman Says:

Id start Woo against Miami, if he does well, I’d start him in Maui too. If not, I’d slide Morris back to 5 and Sheray at 4.

  16. TomS Says:

Morris at the 5, he should be there regardless
Stevenson at the 4, let him learn on the fly
    Woo backs up Morris
    Thomas backs up Stevenson

    Perry is a 3, not a 4.

  17. Borat Says:

This news hurt stomach, I make a shit now.

  18. Burly Says:

I wouldn’t play Woo more than 5 minutes in any organized Basketball game. I would start Stevenson at the 4 from day 1. So that the time we get to the elite 8 he is ready. Do not make the same mistake we made with Kaz. He was not ready for Marquette.

  19. deWildcats Says:

Could be a long season … we lose a player that is horrible and then worry about how to replace him. Seems to me if the next 3 - 4 weeks go well … then Red shirt Carter.

  20. SEKY_CAT Says:

    morris 5
    stevenson 4
    meeks 3
    crawford 2
    bradley/D JAS share the 1

Quality bench. Able to substitute very well. I think we’re a better team without fartface.

  21. Cabodrmr Says:

No way we can Red shirt him! Not enough bodies on team to be able to lose him. He needs to play
    to get better.

  22. Oakie Says:

When Razor Ramon joins up we will have enough.

  23. Han Says:

People, the only way Stevenson is starting any time soon is if Thomas is a complete idiot/lazy fool and does nothing right in practice.

Stevenson may see a lot of minutes, and he may end up starting in a couple weeks, but Thomas will be starting at the 4 with Morris at the 5. Woo will be the backup for Morris. Stevenson will back up Thomas, and sometimes he might play the 5, as well.

Perry will not be moved back to the 4. He’s much more comfortable at the 3. The only possible reason he may move is if Thomas proves completely useless and Harris plays so well immediately that he starts at the 3. All of the guards (Bradley, Crawford, Porter, Meeks, and Jasper) will be at the 1 or 2 unless the team collapses as did last year’s squad.

There will be some minor movement at the 1 and 2, and at the 4 and 5 when it comes to starters, but Tubby really wants to get back to 1 or 2 starting lineups, as he was incredibly frustrated with the need to constantly put new guys in last year based on a point system in practice.

    These are your starters:
    1) Bradley (Backed up by Jasper and Porter)
    2) Crawford (Backed up by Meeks and Porter, sometimes Bradley at the 2)
    3) Perry (backed up by Harris when he comes, sometimes one of the guards in a small lineup, and possibly Thomas once in a while)
    4) Thomas (backed up by Stevenson, and sometimes Morris will play the 4. Also Woo could. Not to mention Coury or a walk on)
    5) Morris (Woo is the first Center off the Bench, with Stevenson sometimes, and Carter once he’s healthy)

The only way that stuff changes is if there are injuries, or if the starters play really badly. Meeks or Jasper could average 20, and as long as the starters play D and can get a lead, they’ll stay starters. That’s not a bad thing, as it gives the freshman a chance to come in and do major damage off the bench, and I see our bench sometimes outscoring the starters, between Meeks, Harris, Jasper, Porter and Stevenson.

If Bradley becomes a TO magnet, which I doubt after the LW game, we’ll see Jasper or Porter in at the point some, though probably not as starter. Jasper has shown himself too eager to throw ill advised passes, so he’ll mostly play the 2 and sometimes the 1 late in the half.

I’m pleased with this set-up, assuming Morris stays out of foul trouble, Bradley makes more assists than TO, Crawford continues to come out of his shell, Perry provides leadership and sometimes significant scoring, and Thomas decides to jump and run. A lot of ifs, but I really think most of them are likely, though Thomas has a lot to prove.

Whatever happens, the freshmen will get a lot of minutes, and a lot of points, especially in garbage time with circus dunks like in the first exhibition game. This is a team that can legitimately field two energetic groups of 5 players.

Maui will tell a lot about the will of the 3 junior and 2 senior starters, and everything we’ve seen so far suggests they’re ready to earn the school name on their jerseys this year.

  24. JL Blue Says:

Carter isn’t horrible, he’s just not awesome. 6.5 ppg on 100% shooting and 3 rpg in limited minutes in two preseason games. Not very good, but horrible is reserved for the Nate Knights of the world.

  25. TheRevelation Says:

Perry, Thomas and Woo would be lucky to be all stars at the NAIA level. I watched three NAIA games this weekend and they had better players.

While I am impressed with the freshman, the players mentioned above are lacking in the skills you need to compete at a national level.

  26. Tom Gray Says:

Perry scored 45 points in the NCAA against UAB and UConn.

Thomas had a good game versus UConn, too.

#25 your comment is absurd but typical of UK “fans” though.

  27. ba1 Says:

Perry can hit some open threes.

Our low post defense and rebounding may be what does us in this season. I hope Meeks and Jasper grab a ton of boards because if they don’t I am afraid we are in trouble this season.

  28. UK fan Says:

I agree #27 rebounds have been a problem for a while. Rhondo was the leadint rebounder and this year Porter and Stevenson. Where is Morris in this area.

  29. Drake Says:

#25, you are a complete and total moron! I will never take anything you say on this board to be credible again. You must have a Stevie Wonder type eye for talent!

  30. Han Says:

If Randolph stays out of foul trouble, he will get more rebounds this year. Stevenson has the potential for 3-4 rebounds on each end, particularly as he continues to put on muscles.

Crawford will get after the ball, as will the other guards.

Maybe, just maybe Thomas will show up.

I think we’ll be ok, though a lot of it depends on Randolph being inside and at least blocking out if he doesn’t get the rebounds himself.

Look for the Cats to go hard after defensive rebounds to start the fast break. This team has already demonstrated a love for fast break dunks.

I’m much more concerned about fouls than rebounding.

  31. SEKY_CAT Says:

Perry, Thomas start out in starting lineup, but by March we’ll have at least 2 freshmen starters. Did anyone catch the DUKE game? They struggled with GA Southern for 30 minutes. UK would match up nicely with them. I think our recruits are WAY UNDER-RATED. IMO KY top 10 team.

  32. T Svoboda Says:

    any news on lucas?

  33. Drake Says:

    Lofton drops 30 for UT

  34. Anonymous Says:

Hey I think I want to see some of you guys play one on one against UK’s weaker players and see how they make you eat their lunch!! That would be fun

  35. SEKY_CAT Says:

Why should we care about Lofton? If you shoot 26 times in a game, you are bound to score a few points.

  36. Hubert Says:

Are they having White Castles? If so, I would most certainly eat their respective lunches.

  37. Tom Gray Says:

    Lofton is a fine player.

So are Crawford and Bradley. Ditto Rondo and Sparks.

Those 4 guards got UK scholarships in 2004-05.

  38. Han Says:

It’s always easy to look back and say that one guard was better than another (completely ignoring factors like who else is on a team and how that affects the development of players). People seem to ignore that Tubby got two different Mr. Kentucky players who never really delivered (Carrier, who sat the bench, and Stockton, who only started when the elite guards failed to play fundamental basketball). Yes, Lofton is delivering in Tennessee, but who knows if he developed as well in Kentucky with different pressure and different players (it’s not just Tubby’s system).

No one ever thanks a coach when he doesn’t recruit a guy who ends up being a complete waste of a scholarship.

  39. KingDon Says:

    The best line-up is
    Bradley
    Crawford
    Meeks
    Stevenson
    Morris

    The likely line-up is
    Bradley
    Brawford
    Perry
    Morris
    Woo
