What is the greatest example of Little Brother Syndrome? Is it obsessively following everything Big Brother does and harassing them for any possible misstep, no matter how slight? Is it losing consistently and making excuses by generic references to being “classy” or “doing things the right way?” Or is it simply always nipping at Big Brother’s heels but never quite catching up? Well it could be all of those, but honestly it is probably this. Louisville has made a t-shirt claiming to have won 4 National Championships. Now some of you may be saying…”Matt, I thought Louisville has only won two titles, one in 1980 and one in 1986″. Well you are correct. But according to this OFFICIALLY LICENSED SHIRT BY ADIDAS, Louisville is now also claiming titles in 1948 and 1956.
So what are these two mysterious titles? Well a little Wikipedia research shows that in 1948, Louisville won something called the NAIB tournament and in 1956, Louisville won the NIT. Yes, you read that correctly….Louisville is now claiming NAIB and NIT wins as “National Championships.” Even better, one title Louisville is claiming was actually WON BY KENTUCKY. Yes, in 1948, they actually had a NCAA Tournament and…oh yeah, Kentucky won it.
That my friends is little brother syndrome. Claim national championships you didn’t win, including one won by Big Brother. How long until a t-shirt comes out that claims they actually won the 2012 title as well. #L1CYaLater

quit hatin on tha ville! no, for real; quit hatin! it is embarrasing to all KY fans who possess respect and class. BBN consists of the most PASSIONATE fans in any American sport in my opinion, and this passion is the driving force behind the tradition that represents the #1 coll basketball program of all-time. To even acknowledge such a claim signifies that we actually give a damn about these hooligans. Let them make such inferior claims, I dont care; b/c even with the “national” champs that they’ve recently claimed; they’re program, and fanbase for that matter, is still only 50% as historically relevant as you’re Kentucky Wildcats. BTW, the country as a whole doesn’t even consider the Louisville team as being in the same league as the Lexington team.
P.S. I was mistaken about the fanbase, I would rather give UL fans more like 8-10%. Also, what is “helms”?

Our history I decided to check the major stores or Louisville gear and nowhere is this shirt offered for sale…. So “BBN…. Who has the Brother syndrome???” the so called lil brother or the so called big brother that just likes to take stabs at something so he creates something to dis them on! So if you can actually find this shirt for sale post the site because I would buy you a few so you could laugh and make jokes or even burn them at my expense. But like I said good luck finding it because it doesn’t exist so BBN try to find someone who can actually edit a picture and not some UK alumni or UK student

For your information, the NIT was considered to be far superior to the NCAA tournament well into the 1950s, so that 1949 title is completely justified. Read up!

Their second National Title was when they won the NIT, which was hailed by most as thee “National Champions” of college basketball.

@61 If you all want to hang a banner NAIA championship you can it just doesnt count as NCAA D 1 title. But the whole NIT thing we could argue til we were blue in the face but back they a NIT and a NCAA tourney but they also had the helms association who picked who they thought were the better only once did the helm association pick the NIT winner. If the NIT was the tournament that got bigger and not the NCAA then we would be talking about NIT champs instead of NCAA.

#61 that’s fine that it was so prestigious back then, but the fact is Louisville has not claimed those as National Championships until now… Just THIS year on your video board on the scorers table did it say 2 National Championships.. 1980 and 1986.
