Here is how the “aUKward Fan Photos” post works.  You, the reader, send me a photo at AFlenerKSR@gmail.com or tweet it to me @AFlenerKSR with the hashtag #aUKwardFanPhoto. It can be recent, but I’ve found it to be true that the older the picture the better. It can be one person. It can be more. But it must be aUKward, UK related, and you must be in the photo. 

By sending me a photo you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions:

1.) You give me consent to put the photo on the website.

2.) You give me consent to make fun of everyone and everything in the picture.

3.) You will tell me your name, where you are from, and a little bit about the picture (where it was taken, when it was taken, etc.).

Before we get to this week’s aUKward fan photo, I want to thank everyone who quickly sent in their entries. If you didn’t get around to sending your photo to me, get on it.  This post has the potential to be a lot of fun, but only if you participate. Start digging through those old photo albums and send in some aUKward photos.

The first few photos I received were okay, but not on the ” So funny I’ve got to show this to someone else right now” level. Then UK student Cameron Hamilton’s email showed up in my inbox and my eyes lit up.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR.

Cameron writes “In my Tim Couch jersey on the first day of school and it is money. Better believe I rocked that fit to Millcreek Elementary and the UK game the next day.”

I have no doubt that you did, Cameron. You look extremely comfortable and extremely proud in one of the most aUKward photos I’ve ever seen. Thanks for sending it.

I’m not really sure where to start. There is so much greatness here. Let’s start a list from the bottom of the photo and go up.

1.) The shoes. They tie. They buckle. They appear to be pumps. But look closer. They are not pumps.  When I zoomed in I saw that they say “BK”, which you know means “British Knights” if you were born before 1992. British Knights were endorsed by MC Hammer and later declined in popularity due to the Crips street gang adopting them as the official footwear for gang related activity. Cameron was unclear as to whether he was or was not involved with the Crips.

2.) The socks. My man Cameron is rocking some sweet shin splitters. His Mom had fresh white socks ready to roll for the start of the school year. He pulled those straight out of a 3 pack no more than 15 minutes before this photo was taken.

3.) The shorts. The world tells us not to wear white after Labor Day. You know who doesn’t care what the world says? Cameron. He says “World, I’ll wear my white Nike shorts after Labor Day if I want because they are an incredible match with my Tim Couch jersey.” How can the world argue with that? What Cameron didn’t know is that he was starting a Nike shorts/oversized shirt fashion trend that would later catch on with sorority girls everywhere. Cameron was a visionary.

4.) The jersey. Cameron said his Mom almost got him a Billy Jack Haskins jersey. That’s almost as unacceptable as Bill Curry running the option with Tim Couch. Either this off brand jersey from Dawahares has extremely long sleeves or Cameron had the arms of Wee-man as a kid. Additionally, I can’t decide if the jersey is tucked in or not. It has to be, right? If the length of the jersey is proportional to the length of the sleeves, the jersey would completely cover his soon-to-be-fashionable-in-10-years Nike shorts. I think it is tucked and the excess is hanging down. Regardless, I think we can all agree it looks fantastic.

5.) The chain. While chains have lost popularity in recent years, I’ve got Cameron’s back here. I too had a chain necklace during the 90′s. Got to give the ladies what they want, right?

6.) The hat. Remember when all hats came as flat bills, but we bent the bills because rappers and college baseball players had yet to make the flat bill cool? I do. That is what is happening in this picture. However, the bill of the hat is not where your focus should be. LOOK AT THE DESIGN. It is a rim with a net and an outstretched muscular arm reaching up with a basketball to slam dunk it. Ummm, awesome. Cameron, if you still have that hat I’ll start the bidding at $50.

7.) The pose. Let me point out that this was not a candid shot. This was not an “Oh man, come on Mom, no pictures” moment. Cameron is PUMPED about his Tim Couch jersey, white shorts, fresh socks, and gang shoes and he demands that it be documented.  He then contemplates the best way to pose. He decides putting one foot in front of the other and placing his hands on his hips is the best way to go. It’s safe to say no one here disagrees.
