So, just how bad is the SEC? Well, I think the best way to illustrate that is to show how poorly the SEC has played against poor teams this season. Take a look at several results from this season:
Nov. 14: Arkansas 91, SE Louisiana 87
Nov. 14: VMI 111, Kentucky 104
Nov. 16: Mercer 72, Alabama 69
Nov. 17: Loyola (IL) 74, Georgia 53
Nov. 18: Georgia 61, Eastern Michigan 60
Nov. 19: Mercer 78, Auburn 74
Nov. 20: Arkansas 68, UC Davis 59
Nov. 21: Georgia 55, Presbyterian 47
Nov. 22: Missouri St. 62, Arkansas 57
Nov. 23: Mississippi 82, Marshall 78
Nov. 24: Georgia 54, Santa Clara 48
Nov. 24: Vandy 65, MTSU 57
Nov. 26: Arkansas 79, South Alabama 77
Nov. 28: LSU 64, Centenary 58
Nov. 28: Charleston 82, South Carolina 80
Nov. 29: Northern Iowa 105, Auburn 93
Nov. 29: Mississippi 78, Morgan St. 70
Dec. 2: Alabama 64, Alabama A&M 56
Dec. 2: Western Kentucky 67, Georgia 63
Dec. 3: Illinois-Chicago 74, Vandy 55
Dec. 6: Mississippi St. 76, Alabama St. 67
Dec. 17: Alabama 75, Tennessee St. 66
Dec. 17: Arkansas 89, Austin Peay 80
Dec. 20: Georgia 74, Wofford 73
Dec. 20: Tennessee 79, Belmont 77
Dec. 22: Auburn 77, Alabama St. 72
Dec. 22: Florida 88, Georgia Southern 81
Dec. 22: Texas A&M CC 80, Georgia 79
Dec. 22: LSU 62, McNeese St. 59
Dec. 22: Mississippi St. 74, Nicholls St. 68
Dec. 27: Kentucky 76, Florida Atlantic 69
Dec. 28: Alabama 66, Yale 63
Now, if you jumped down after NOT reading all those scores, know that is 32 games this season against non-BCS schools where the SEC team won by less than 10 or lost outright. In fact, it’s 10 losses against inferior competition. And what’s worse is that ALL 12 SEC teams are in the mix. Now, I know what you might say, “every conference has games like this. This doesn’t prove anything.” Well, lucky for us both, I found the stats that gave wins by less than 10 points or losses for the BCS conferences.
ACC: 15
Big East: 22
Big Ten: 15
Big 12: 18
Pac-10: 23
And look, the point of all this is not to continue bashing the SEC. I don’t think I have to prove the SEC is weak this year. My point is to emphasize just how good of an opportunity UK has the win the league, Tennessee included or not. I would be disapointed if the Cats don’t at least match last years total of 12 conference wins. Alright, let’s do some links:
1. Turns out the UK-East Carolina has a little contentious past to it. Looks like UK bought out a return trip to ECU in 1998, angering the Pirates because they were opening a new stadium, and wanted the Tim Couch-led offense to be there for an exciting game. According to John Clay, the ECU administration went to the media critical of the Cats. Of course, UK went to the Outback Bowl that year, so it turned out OK.
2. If Michael Porter deserved the criticism he got earlier this season, then he deserves just as much praise for his play over the past couple weeks. Louisville will be the ultimate test, because up to this point Porter’s good play has come against weak competition. BUT, I feel like he is more comfortable out there running the point, as this article points out. And if Porter does have a good game Saturday, I see no reason the Cats won’t have a good shot to beat the Cards….again.
3. Highly rated Vee Sanford and his Lex Cath teammates took down Vinny Zollo and Clark County last night in the finals of the Republic Bank Tournament. Sanford had 31 points, and all I get from this article is Vollo had 7 points in the first half and must not have been one of his teams top 3 scorers at the end. Oh, and for all you eastern Kentucky crazies, Elliott County is ranked 1st in the newly released Litratings.
4. NBA Recap:
Rondo again very good in Celtics game

That buyout was the first thing I heard about from ECU fans when the matchup was announced. They’re like elephants!

If Porter plays well against real competition on Sunday then I might begin to agree with you.

Hey you all, go to http://www.youtube.com/roostergooster and watch the video dedicated to Josh Harrellson. It’s called “Born to be White.”

I played in the 16th Region (in the 80’s)–cannot believe Elliott County has a program like this now. Amazing.

Is Vee for real? Can anyone vouch for his game and could he play at UK?

Couldn’t agree more #2. Verdict’s still out on Porter against real teams.

It’s unreal BTI.. how great Elliott County is for such a small school. There are no stop lights in Sandy Hook! Amazing!!! Paranormal almost! They are still not as big as Keith Whitley..

Yeah, the town has 700 people! We beat Elliott like a dog back in the day.

boy, sure am glad Zollo is coming to UK (wish you could sense my sarcasm). There are incoming players you get extremely excited about like Ferguson and I think K.C. Ross-Miller will be good and is underrated. But Euton and Zollo just aren’t going to be that good. I know Zollo’s a sophomore, but he’s still not even one of the top 2 (maybe not even top 3) players on his team. Euton is the 4th best player on his team and UK won’t even look at the 3 in front of him. Hope I’m wrong.

I know, thats why it seems so unreal.. also Rose Hill used to be so weak.. then all of a sudden Jeff Hall comes in as coach, bringing OJ Mayo, Bill Walker, etc. etc. I am really happy for Elliott Co. though. Even though their cheerleaders cursed you like a sailor when you would take the ball outta bounds. It was kind of attractive in a way lol
December 31st, 2008 at 10:39 am
I would say that was HOT! Rose Hill is good? WTF is going on???
December 31st, 2008 at 10:55 am
I like Vee Sanford, but to say he is “highly rated” is a stretch. Rivals gives him 0 stars and NR. He has offers from UK, Bradley, and Miami-OH.

Think Mr. Clarke could help us right now

13.) 14.) Remember Michael Sanchez??? he is having a decent season too, not dominate but decent…..

Darius Miller unfortunately
is not UK or high division 1
material. The same goes for several of
BCG’s future signees.

Elliott County is playing in the Beach Ball Classic down in Myrtle Beach. They lost in the first round to Cedar Hill (TX) 63-53 (4/30 from three point range done them in). In the consolation bracket, they defeated Myrtle Beach (SC) 73-60 as they turned 25 turnovers into 31 points. Northern Kentucky signee Ethan Faulkner nearly pulled off a triple double, with 11 points, 9 assists, and 9 steals. In the consolation semifinals, they defeated Pickering (CN) 77-69. The Lions were paced by Radford signee Evan Faulkner who scored 29 points while Jonathan Ferguson scored 24.
They play Southside (SC) in the Consolation Championship today.

#11…not anymore after Chad Jackson and Dakotah Euton transferred away. Rose Hill was good at “getting” young studs to get a nice, Christian education, but just couldn’t hang on to them.

#9 - It’s UNREAl how bad Zollo’s coach utilizes him. He sits him on the wing while their PG drives and makes terrible decision. Zollo is the main go to bug guy on his AAU team(Indy Elite). Zollo’s coach is the reason his numbers are down. Nothing else.
#16 = Huge Idiot

Isn’t the game on Sunday, not Saturday?

Elliott County defeated Southside 78-69 to win the consolation championship of the Beach Ball Classic.
Looks to be a good championship game down there tonight as St. Patrick (NJ) plays Wheeler (GA). St. Patrick features UNC commit Dexter Strickland and George Mason commit Paris Bennett, as well as Michael Gilchrist, who was voted #1 at the 2008 LeBron James camp.
