Similar to what Joker Phillips is facing here at Kentucky, Tennessee head coach, Derek Dooley, is facing heat from the Volunteer fans to provide a better product on the field. No matter how good you are doing, when you are the first coach to lose to Kentucky in the past 27 years a hot seat will magically appear. Dooley recognizes how devastating the loss was and thinks that his program reached an all-time low.
“At some point, we had to hit a real low point with where this program is,” Dooley said of the Volunteers’ first loss to the Wildcats since 1984, a defeat that cemented Tennessee’s second straight losing season under its second-year coach.
“I hoped we wouldn’t, but it’s inevitable. You’re going to hit a bottom. It’s on the whole organization, and we’re going to begin our climb right now.”
If a “climb” involves your starting quarterback is chucking beer bottles off a balcony instead of studying game film, then yeah, climb away.

Just remember UT…Kentucky is ALWAYS on top.

can’t disagree…it literally can’t get worse than losing to a WR at QB when you’ve won that many in a row…I love Dooley, he is the worst
August 26th, 2012 at 12:17 pm
lets make it back to back in their own stadium

Could be two 5-6 teams playing in Knoxville to decide who gets the coveted berth in the BBVA Compass Bowl. I’d take it.
August 26th, 2012 at 12:26 pm
Mark Story from the LHL is predicting 4-8. I agree with that. We will be 3-1 outside the conference and 1-7 in the conference. Pack your bags, Joker.
August 26th, 2012 at 12:30 pm
maybe its the pants
August 26th, 2012 at 12:30 pm
Would you mind referring where that Dooley quote came from?
And Dooley is correct.
And Tennessee fans are all up in arms about losing to Kentucky and it’s going to be ugly for the Big Blue on November 24th.

If you had to guess for your life.. Would u take
A. Joker is fired at some point during this season
B. Joker is fired at some point after this seasons last game
C. Joker is our coach next year

I guess he needed to teach them to play football as well as how to shower.
8) B. There’s a lot of loyalty to Joker, and the department doesn’t want to get called racist as they will when they fire Joker, but unless the team shows dramatic improvement, he’s gonna be done. Brooks showed you should win your cupcakes and a couple more games and win 6+ per season. Joker has to do at least that since he was a coach in waiting and had his own people there.
Joker once said we didn’t have the kind of talent necessary to run the plays he wanted to. Who’s been the head recruiter for years? He has.
August 26th, 2012 at 12:54 pm
#8. Really hard especially with the life part. : )
I’ll go with C. I fear that, even with a 4-8 season, Mitch will find something to claim as progress.
For a couple of reasons, I think he is afraid to fire Joker.
August 26th, 2012 at 1:03 pm
Those pants are absolutely blinding. Ouch! #8: For now, it’s likely C, but with the thin secondary and young players at key spots, the SEC schedule could get really ugly – fast.
August 26th, 2012 at 1:54 pm
I think those pants are the low point in your program
August 26th, 2012 at 2:41 pm
8 – Good question. It will most likely be either B or C. With the last three games being considered “winnable” games. I highly doubt Mitch would pull the plug midseason unless we are 2-7 or worse. Before a pessimist shouts that Vandy and UT will be favored to win those games, thats not the point. I didn’t say they were guarantees, just that they were winnable. I don’t expect Vandy or UT to be a double digit favorite.
I will go with C as well because I think we are going to beat Louisville. As bad as we are, UL is pretty awful this season too.
August 26th, 2012 at 3:23 pm
Thank u guys for answering.. Wow those are actually all really good answers
August 26th, 2012 at 3:39 pm
I will answer C. I think we will be 7-5 at season end. We also beat UT only really using just two plays, run right or run left. Dooley will be gone before Joker. Coaches are developed not an overnight success. Dooley and Pat Knight both had fathers who built winning programs and they were there to watch the process. Yet, both seem to be lost in finding there way to the coaches elite ranks. Five years from now when Joker has HIS program up and running you expert critics will be giving Mitch credit for hiring Cal and seeing what Joker could become. By that time Saul will be coaching at Minnesota.

What’s truly devastating is those orange pants. My headache was almost gone but now it’s back in full force. Thanks for that!
August 26th, 2012 at 4:20 pm
I don’t care how big of a Tennessee fan you are. Those pants are horrible.
August 26th, 2012 at 4:50 pm
Wow, Dooley must have already been feeling that hot seat to wear those pants.
Something we all seem to forget is the fact that Rich Brooks believes in Joker. Now, last year was dissapointing, but we had so many injuries to key players that we have to take that into consideration. I do think there is something to what bluebarnes said about coaches being developed and to have your first head coaching job in the SEC, well is there a more difficult conference to get your first gig in? I understand the complaints about the predictability of the play calling, etc., but I like Joker as our head coach for many other reasons. He does a great job getting the kids to give back to the community, he keeps on them about their academics, we don’t constantly hear about them breaking the law, etc. Plus, he’s from Kentucky, he loves Kentucky, and he will stay here. Hopefully this will be a better year than last year, one to start building on. Maybe, just maybe, if Joker can make it through this year, and keep developing as a head coach, when all is said and done, we might all fondly refer to the Joker Phillips era as the best era of Kentucky football since Bear Bryant. For now, can we just give him a chance and support our team, he is one of our own.

I think k s r has turned into a mouth piece for Mitch
They don’t even have the balls to post my comment
It had zero curse words
Zero inflamitory remarks
It was just my opinion on the uk team
But they can’t let Mitch see a neg comment or ol pus s jones loses his flier credentials
What a sell out maybe you could sell some space to that hair removal product nads
Would fit
August 26th, 2012 at 6:01 pm
@ #22 of course they have.
Just like Mitch, KSR has been going right along with living off the Tennessee win last year to establish momentum for this football program. The fact of the matter is this victory was 5 years too late. Tennessee has struggled unlike any point in the last 30 years since Fulmer was let go. This should have been a prime opportunity to put a few good losses on the Vols build some SEC credibility in the media and recruiting and pass them. Instead we’ve gone 1-6 against the Vols in that time period. That was our window and we blew it. Maybe we get another win this year–maybe we don’t. But if we do, I bet my house Dooley will no be there and UT will go out just like Alabama did and get the big hire because it won’t be tolerated.
August 26th, 2012 at 6:51 pm
Number 23,,,,,could not agree more. UT fans will not put up with losing seasons and poor play and we should not either. The difference,,,,they will get a big name coach and we will suffer along with what we have.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:08 pm
UT is still paying Phil Fulmer, and they will owe DD 5 million if they have to buy him out. That may be hard to do.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:40 pm
UT’s football record over the last 5 years is the same as UK football. UT is not special in football any more.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:57 pm
25….ever heard of Pilot Travel Centers. Haslams own it and are UT’s biggest donors. Money will not be a problem.
26…so does that make you feel better we share the same record as them? We’ll I’m glad it does because even so we still have a 1-4 record against them so that makes us even worse. Its the same false logic other teams used against us during the Gillespie era…”oh Kentucky is done…they aren’t Kentucky anymore”. It was a foolish false sense of hope for them now and its idiotic for us to do the same now with UT.
August 26th, 2012 at 9:48 pm
6 and 15 you got it. Those pants should be outlawed.
August 26th, 2012 at 10:09 pm
#8 – I vote C. I predict a 4-8 record this year but Barnhart will cite progress and a young team coming back as reasons to bring back Joker.
