It may have taken some time (too much time in my humble opinion) but the chorus of voices on the UNC academic scandal have increased. The latest is Pat Forde of Yahoo, who has taken some time away from giddily tweeting about seeing World Wide Wes and now writes that the UNC case will be an interesting test for the NCAA’s new authority it has given itself. There is an old legal saying that “bad facts make bad law,” and some believe that the NCAA’s decision to go against its rule book policy and appoint itself as almighty judge in the Penn State case could have negative effects on other cases. And as Forde points out, this could be just such a case. Will the NCAA come in and be judge, jury and executioner. If it wants to be consistent, it will.
But when has the NCAA ever been consistent? I guess we will find out.
