Alabama WR picks the Cats

by @ 10:02 am. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Kentucky has a new football commitment, according to Steve Jones at Rivals.com. Jevontey Smith, a wide receiver from Greensboro, Alabama, is the newest member of Kentucky’s 2013 football class. The unranked prospect attended one of UK’s football camps last month and impressed coaches with his speed.

His only other scholarship offer came from Middle Tennessee State, although he has received interest from a few SEC schools, including Auburn and Tennessee.

Welcome aboard.

    First!!!

  2. Musehobo Says:

I’ll adopt the Al Davis mentality and welcome any speedsters.

  3. G-Unit Says:

Hey MAtt, what do you think about all the moves New Orleans has made?

But you are used to balls on your pizza thought matt… lol

  4. G-Unit Says:

USC just stole Silas Redd, PSU’s best player at RB…. ppl said on a Penn radio shoow Lane Kiffin is the Calipari of NCAA Football… no morals

  5. Bob Sugar Says:

“The unranked prospect” That’s all you need to know

And Penn st. accucsing other team’s coaches not having morals might be the funniest thing I’ve ever heard

  6. UK Wildcat Says:

    Unranked?

    #RISE #RISE #RISE #RISE #RISE #RISE #RISE

  7. Dandy Don Says:

The reason he is unranked is because up until last season he was cutting the grass at the GHS’s football field until one day it was discovered he could return punts and kicks really really well. Also his hometown is a typo, he’s really from GREENBOW, Alabama.

  8. jryan Says:

Unranked. Soo dont unranked prospects typically end up in the sunbelt. I guess i should just be glad joker got someone who has actually played wr before instead of a bunch of former qbs. I dont get it honestly i wish joker would atleast try and maybe speak with some above average players. I could understand if he or the rest of our staff were good enough to actually coach guys up but theyrr not so i would think we should go after some talent

  9. GoCats2 Says:

    #7 nice
    You cant teach speed.

  10. asdf Says:

UK’s bread and butter has for years been in finding undiscovered or underappreciated talent. Think Randall Cobb, Derrick Locke or James Whalen. All very low-profile recruits (Cobb a 2-star who produced 5-star results, Locke not even a football recruit who talked his way onto the team, Whalen a walkon who became the best receiving tight end in SEC history and an all-American. This could be another kid in that mold. We can’t go head-to-head for five five-stars a year like the powers do. We have to find these diamonds in the rough.

  11. Jim Says:

How about somebody who can catch the ball? That has been our problem, dropped passes.

  12. #Rise Says:

Why do people act like before joker we had a dominating football program. UK football is always going to be a bottom feeder in SEC. Accept the fact and support the program like a true blue UK fan.

  13. UK Says:

STFU # 12. Everyone for the most part was excited about the program b4 Joker got here. We pulled off major upsets including #1 LSU. We went to like 5 straight bowl games. Do you remember that? Joker takes over and loses to UofL on a year that should’ve been a gimme. He wasn’t starting over with new recruits. He recruited and coached the players he was starting his head coaching career with. Now it’ll be an upset if we beat flippin wku.

  14. #Rise Says:

    13) Yes I do remember all that. I remember Joker picking up big wins against Auburn, South Carolina and Tennessee. I also remember hearing the same fans like you calling for Rich Brooks head after his third season. Give Joker another 2 years.

  15. LS Says:

    Not even ranked………

  16. Jim Says:

@14, no way this Joker gets another two years. This year will be another 5-7, with no bowl and a loss to Louisville. These are his recruits and he still can’t win. It is time to move on. Next….

  17. dick gosinia Says:

#7/10 – I agree wholeheartedly. If he has speed and good hands then what else do you need. I like the fact that he was at our camp. Maybe we just beat everyone else to the punch!

  18. wakecat Says:

#10,Our “bread & butter” type of recruting has kept us in the basement of the SEC. I’d rather get players who were also being recruited by BCS conference schools.

    #16, I think 5 wins is optimistic.

  19. DoubleZeroMostel Says:

TAKE THAT Middle Tennessee State!!! So glad we could steal a recruit away from our rivals in Murfreesboro.

  20. Bobbysueflay Says:

#10 first Cobb was a three star, he had offers from teams like Tennessee. Not middle Tennessee. A little diferecnce there buddy. Locke was a track turned football, was not intended for that. Other schools would have noticed if this was anything. Don’t get your hopes up, more than likely you will never here his name again. Truth hurts

  21. bobbysueflay Says:

The truth is, this has set the football program back another 5 years. A big name coach could have been brought in we could have been a force and fan base was at its peak. Anyone who thinks this is suck a great move have no clue about athletics. The uk athletics don’t care about the program as long as it is making enough money to pay for the others athletics.

  22. UK Wildcat Says:

Anyone who says Joker should be given two more years is retarded. Literally retarded.

  23. B-rad Says:

#20- Cobb only got an offer from TENN at the end when a couple of their top recruits fell through. Same with the 3 star ranking.. He was a 2 star for most of his senior year.

  24. Bobbysueflay Says:

    23. Since your such an expert I guess you know more than every recruiting program in the nation. How are you not working for a major school. You need to quit your job now and go do that. We are last in sec in recruiting buddy. Wake up from your dream buddy

  25. Big Blue Coming at You Says:

This is not a knock on this kid because it’s not his fault we gave him a scholarship. But “unranked” and “his only other scholarship offer was from Middle Tennessee St.” is not going to get us to the next level or even to a bowl game anymore. Just because he has speed doesn’t mean he can catch the ball or run the correct routes. We need complete players instead of using QB’s as WR’s or getting guys that have other qualities other than actually catching the ball. This is the type of recruiting that’s hurt UK for years now. It was necessary for rebuilding after probation but that is it. Once we started getting to bowl games we needed better talent and not guys that are “over-looked”, “not evaluated yet” or “has scholarship offers from Middle Tennessee St. but other SEC schools showed interest.” Ok, take a chance on a player or maybe two like that per class but not the entire class. That’s the way Joker recruits. He’s been doing it his entire time here and why our offense has looked terrible for a few seasons now. This is why we don’t have quality depth and why UK’s season always depends on every starter staying healthy. Most other SEC teams can take a hit and field a competent team. When a good player at UK goes down, so does the season. This type of recruiting is why UK is always behind. Enough is enough!

  26. Same Ol' Song Says:

Same retards posting their same retard words on the same retard board. Unranked means exactly that. Not evaluated. Kid camped at ‘Bama, Auburn, and Tennessee. Faster electronic 40 than James Quick. Decent SPARQ rating. Camped with UK and evaluated in person by coaching staff. The only question about this kid is why take his commitment the day that two really good WRs are coming to visit. Not that any of you retards would know who they are or why they are coming.

  27. Bicycle Seat Sniffer Says:

Great. The coaches were impressed with his speed. I feel like they say this about every WR that commits. The question is, can he catch? Because none of our current WRs outside of La’Rod King can.

  28. Jonsie Says:

If Joker gets fired after a 5-7 season any coach after him that only wins 16 games in 3 years has got to go too.

  29. Idiots Says:

None of our current wr’s can? What about darryl collins, demarco robinson, sweat, and other young and unproven talents that haven’t had a chance to see the field yet bc they’re either true freshmen, we’re injured, or we’re red shirted. This team has a lot of quality young talent that just needs a chance and needs to know they’re being supported by us, the fans. You haters need to either get behind this team, regardless of how many bumps they encounter this season or go be bama or lsu fans! Changing coaches in football is like changes coaches in basketball. There won’t be instant success. It takes 3-5yrs for a new coach to adjust to his role, get his assistants in place, and get his recruits on the field. I think several people will be impressed with the progress this years team makes from the game vs louisville to the game vs tennessee bc of how young, inexperienced, but talented this team is this year.

  30. Idiots Says:

Isn’t like changing coaches in basketball*

  31. Bobbysueflay Says:

    # 29 I hope to god you are joking. Comparing cal to joker? We lost three of five lineman and our best players on d. I hope you are joking.

  32. bosshogg24 Says:

Can you see Calipari signing an unranked player?

  33. boobysueflay Says:

look at the teams ranked ahead of us in recruiting. have you lost your mind? and were getting better?

  34. bluemanchew Says:

this fan base is the only thing that is embarrassing if your not a football fan move on to the next basketball post don’t bad mouth a recruit you don’t know i would like to welcome Jevontey to the team cant wait to see you on the field we have some great young QB’s who can get you the ball down the field GO BIG BLUE

  35. Big T Says:

Unranked and picked us over MTSU. Seriously? I’m embarrassed!
