Coach Cal recently took a tour of the area of Rupp Arena that will soon be what he calls “the gold standard of any locker room, in any building, including NBA teams, ” and he posted a video of the tour on his official website today. Watch as Cal walks through the construction site, explaining what he expects from the finished project.

I love how the interactive blueprint mentions using it for football recruits. Leave it to Cal to upgrade our football facilities.

Still wish we built a new arena!

I’m tired of being the gold standard, platinum is worth more than gold, I wanna be the platinum standard. I’m tired of selling ourselves short !! Bling Bling

Rumor has it that UK purchased the NCAA Final Four Floor from New Orleans to put down on the floor int eh locker room. They have one lane and center court. Center court will be in the center of the cirlular locker room and there will be a replica 2012 banner hanging from the ceiling. It is absolutely going to the gold standard!! Question is if it can be completed by Midnihgt Madness!??!

Anthony Davis is not walking through that door, folks! Nor is he getting off my bench.

#3, Gold is now worth more than platinum.
July 17th, 2012 at 5:09 pm
Actually, #3… I could be wrong but last I checked the spot prices, gold was worth more than platinum.
Regardless, I think platinum is better. Not as soft.

You beat me to that rebuttal, #6… congrats. Rocky always wins, doesn’t he… unless he’s fighting chuck norris.

Why are we spending money on a locker room in a building that could be torn down?
July 17th, 2012 at 5:19 pm
gold $1587 platinum $1414 per ounce

In my opinion, it is genius of Cal to have the locker rooms renovated first. What better way to show recruits and administration what could be for Rupp Arena!

Not everything can be measured in a dollar figure. Yes gold might be worth more for now; Platinum is thought of as more of a classy status symbol not gold. Ask your lady if she would rather have gold ring bands or platinum; if she says gold, know that you just got off cheap & your lady is an idiot.
July 17th, 2012 at 5:51 pm
12) but that means you’re a genius right? if you pick the lady that doesn’t want all your money..
July 17th, 2012 at 5:55 pm
#12, I u/s your point. Not long ago platinum was several hundred dollars per ounce higher than gold. I don’t u/s why it still isn’t, considering that it it much more rare than gold. This doesn’t mean much but I have read in several publications that all the gold ever mined would make a cube 66 feet square. This doesn’t sound like much.
July 17th, 2012 at 6:07 pm
14) Think about how ignorant that comment is. You’re telling me they would bury 66 cubic feet of gold under a military fort? That seems like a waste of extra security. Not to mention of all the things that have been made out of gold since ’49. By now, the at least 50% of the gold would have been consumed to make commercial products such as jewelry. With that being said, they would hide 33 cubic feet of gold underneath a military base? You could split that up into square inches and put it in bank security vaults if you wanted. There was a thing called the gold rush, and they weren’t chasing mere cubic feet of gold.
July 17th, 2012 at 6:25 pm
12) so you’re saying you’d buy what’s in style and cost more over what’s worth more just bc a woman told you to? And we wonder why our economy is in shambles

“A total of 165,000 tonnes of gold have been mined in human history, as of 2009.[2] This is roughly equivalent to 5.3 billion troy ounces or, in terms of volume, about 8500 m3, or a cube 20.4 m on a side. The world consumption of new gold produced is about 50% in jewelry, 40% in investments, and 10% in industry.[3]”
What the what, your understanding of geometry is flawed. A cube 66 feet square is not 66 cubic feet, but 66*66*66 (nearly 300,000) cubic feet.
Perhaps the more pressing question is why several people are trying to prove their knowledge of precious metals on a Kentucky sports blog.
July 17th, 2012 at 6:28 pm
14 is close, the amount found would fit in a very small gym.
That is why it is a precious metal #15.

Damn, You guys are really smart.
July 17th, 2012 at 7:54 pm
…with that horrible music attached to the video?? I wanted to hear what Cal was saying, but couldn’t stay focused because of the damn NOISE.
July 17th, 2012 at 8:36 pm
I would’ve had all the gold in Ft. Knox if weren’t for that bastard Bond.
