The man, the myth, the legend Larry Vaught posted a nugget of news this morning that is sure to perk your ears. Vaught cited a “college coach who has been involved with Parker’s recruiting” as saying that the Cats are the front runner for the talented small forward from Chicago:
“A college coach who has been involved with Parker’s recruiting — and gone against Calipari for players — already has an inkling about what school Parker will eventually pick. He thinks the pick will be Kentucky because the Cats are already the frontrunner. And he didn’t hesitate when predicting that Parker would pick Kentucky even though he could still also opt for a two-year mission trip before going to college.”
This goes against the views of several other analysts, who say Michigan State and Duke lead for Parker, the #1 player in the 2013 class. His current list includes Kentucky, Stanford, Michigan State, Kansas, Florida, Duke, BYU, DePaul, Georgetown and North Carolina. Parker recently said he wants to attend a college close to Chicago so his family could watch him more easily, but that he’ll ultimately go with the program that helps his game the most and best prepares him for the NBA.
Sounds familiar. Anyone have a guess as to who the mystery coach is?

Vaught has been wrong so many times about recruiting that he can’t be relied upon for info. Remember when an Adreian Payne commitment was imminent?

I was told by a Mormon to go on mission before the age of 19 the person has to apply for it. They told me it was rare but granted in special circumstance’s. Parker I don’t think would be 19 until after his freshman year. I know mission’s are optional. If he goes on a mission good for him but if he goes to college which is what I would bet on he would look good playing for UK.

Interesting tidbit, but as the article suggests, this 1 person’s opinion goes against about 10 other opinions I’ve seen that said he’s either Mich St. or Duke. I have a gut feeling for Duke in this one, but who knows what 17yr old kids are thinking.

7. That is correct. And it is extremely rare that people go early. Typically high profile athletes choose not to go on missions. Steve Young, Jimmer Fredette, Bryce Harper, etc. There are very few return-missionaries that go on to have good professional careers.
I hope Vaught’s source is right.

@11 Duke would go against what he says at the end of the article… Durham is nowhere near Chicago. My guess is this mystery coach was Bill Self, just a gut feeling.

#9 Thanks for chiming in about how nice it is that this Blog doesn’t always bash and trash. I wish the ones who repeatedly do it would get a life and respect everyone’s opinion whether they agree or not. Disagree and explain why, yes, bash and trash, no. It would go a long way in improving the image of the BBN and leave a lot less to hate.

Anybody with a brain knows he isnt going to Michigan St. When has Tom Izzo ever coached the #1 player in the country? When has Michigan St ever let players play their own game and create off the bounce? I will help you, NEVER. Tom Izzo is Tubby Smith, the only difference is Izzo has fertile recruiting soil in Michigan a state that produces tons of elite talent and hard working hungry players with talent and size. Playing one year under Izzo would not help Parker prepare for the NBA. Michigan State has no chance.

The 2013 class will be ridiculous. I think it’s already easy to predict a National Championship if the pieces fall into place.
- James Young says UK is the leader for him.
- Sources say Kentucky leads for Jabari Parker
- Cats have been the perceived favorites for the Harrison twins for months.
How would that class NOT at least compete for a National Championship?

I’m not trusting a Larry Vaught recruiting tidbit!! I just don’t think Parker comes to UK. Doesn’t feel like a fit to me. James Young has more upside and is a dream fit for Cal’s offense. I feel like they would be competing for time at the same position. On another note, Randle fills a bigger need for the program in the class of 2013. If Wiggins reclassifies to 2013 I would take him over either Randle or Parker but Parker would player better with Wiggins. Isn’t it great to be a member of BBN during the Cal era. Spoiled by the riches!!!!

20. Maybe not. But probably the only fanbase dumb enough to do it when we are recruiting the #1 player in the country who is LDS.
25. I think Parker could play either forward spot in college. He reminds me of Carmello Anthony. I think he would complement Young. In my opinion Young and Wiggins would be more of a log-jam, but I’m sure we could figure out a way to make it work.

I’m Mormon too. Jabari would send in his papers just previous to turning 19 or shortly after. He’d be serving then for two years AFTER his freshman year. That would be normal. And then he’d probably lose a lot of muscle, timing, some skill would be rusty, etc., over the two years, and need at least one year to regain what he lost, maybe two.
And as for bashing Mormon politicians, I do the most bashing. Harry Reid, Mittens Romney, virtually all those of national prominence, like Huntsman do NOT represent our doctrine politically. Our doctrine taught very plainly is totally centered on a strict adherence to the Constitution. Senator Mike Lee is the best, as far as prominent politicians go.
But Reid, Romney, Hatch, they all are traitors to their faith politically, and I’m embarrassed by them. Sure, they MIGHT be good family men, I don’t know them personally, but they’re compromisers on political principle. In short, they are deceived or have sold out, pure and simple.
Ron Paul is the shining beacon of light as pertains to a strict Constitutional philosophy that all Mormons who are awakened politically support vigorously.

25. and 28. I agree with your assessment on Parker and the position he would play. Secondly, Wiggins and Young only become an issue if Wiggins re-classifies. Third, could you imagine having Harrison, Young, Wiggins, Parker, and TBD center on the floor at the same time. Then you have the other Harrison coming off the bench. That would just be insane and would absolutely blow my mind.

That is one of the most bizarre explanations of mormonism that I have ever heard. I do know some LDS that are “John Birch Society” nutjobs. But that is their personal political beliefs and not doctrine. At any rate, I thought your political rant was odd.

Also, I haven’t seen “sources” saying UK leads for Jabari. I’ve seen about 10 sources say it’s between Mich St and Duke, with most having Duke in the lead. This is the first article, or opinion, that UK leads. Still too early to call.

#9- I have known many mormons over the years. Only one guy I knew was a decent guy. The others were money-grubbing hypocrits. But, I don’t judge your religion by that. I do, however, take into onsideration that your “religion” was started by a convicted con man. Hard to give much credence to anything that comes from a confidence man, who was arrested for stealing from people everywhere he went. Yes, I know all about mormons. Know thine enemy, and all that.

At Kentucky. Not one. Coach K is a developer and will get the most of them. I mean John Wall won’t hit that next level, nor demarcus cousins, or any other soon to be Kentucky player. Everyone seems to forget he is a devout Mormon, he and his parents already said that will play a major role in the school he chooses. That being said not a chance he goes to Kentucky a school and state filled with a bunch of backwoods redneck heathens. Look for him to end up at a private school that has a religious background.
