Kentucky may have dodged a bullet by missing out on class of 2012 star Anthony Bennett. According to UNLV’s head coach, Bennett has still not been cleared to play by the NCAA. The 6-foot-8 big man has been admitted to the university, but the NCAA clearinghouse is still evaluating his status.
Bennett is not enrolled in any summer school classes but the Runnin’ Rebels still expect him to be cleared by August. If cleared, UNLV will be a potential Final Four team.
Think about the headache you’d have right now if he committed to UK and you had to worry about this, and Noel’s two summer school classes.

Uuuhh… Don’t throw stones, my friend. Noel is in question as well. I know Cal keeps saying not to worry, but there’s a reason he’s not on campus… It’s still up in the air.
July 13th, 2012 at 9:01 pm
#1 – Exactly. Hope this post doesn’t come back to bite the BBN in the azz.
Shoulda known this post came from drew…
July 13th, 2012 at 9:02 pm
Neither has Nerlens.
July 13th, 2012 at 9:05 pm
I don’t want to see crybaby UK fans making bullchit about nothing.
July 13th, 2012 at 9:06 pm
Anybody with 7/38th of a brain knows that Noel has not yet qualified. This is why he is in class. Bennett is not in class. Fork him?
July 13th, 2012 at 9:08 pm
This post has nothing to do with biting UK in the azz. Either Noel makes his grades or he doesn’t. This post has nothing to do with that.
July 13th, 2012 at 9:08 pm
2 — Yes, because I reported some news, whatever happens to Noel is completely my fault. Internet blog posts come back to bite people in the ass.
July 13th, 2012 at 9:09 pm
1, 2, and 3, are crybabies.
July 13th, 2012 at 9:26 pm
drew, good to have you with us this evening. No, captain smarty pants, what happens to Noel is NOT your fault. Did I say that, or is your reading comprehension slipping? drew, I am quite confident if Noel does not qualify that MANY viewers of this site (both pro UK and anti UK) will point to this post as being one of the more dumb posts in ksr history. Sure, Bennett’s eligibility IS news, but I don’t think I’d be say’n sh!t with Noel’s eligibility hanging in the balance.
Do you think Cal would be “reporting” Bennett’s situation with one of our own in the same situation at the moment. I can hear Cal now… “see people, I’m smart, I didn’t recruit Bennett, cause I knew he was a big dummy – but Noel is gonna be fine!” NOT.
July 13th, 2012 at 9:31 pm
rocky – I’m fairly confident you couldn’t muster the gonads to say that anywhere near me, or 1 and 3 for that matter. Wait, wait, wait… is “rocky” aka drew?
July 13th, 2012 at 9:32 pm
9. — And I will point to your comment as being just as dumb.
This is news. I reported it. That’s part of what we do here.
July 13th, 2012 at 9:34 pm
Rocky, you must be drinking this evening. Here’s the point: With Noel’s future in question, we don’t need to be questioning other players’ eligibility.
Drew, you need thicker skin.
July 13th, 2012 at 9:38 pm
12. — I’m not questioning anyone’s eligibility. I took news from college basketball and posted it.
July 13th, 2012 at 9:45 pm
Drew don’t worry about these clowns…
July 13th, 2012 at 9:47 pm
Drew Ok, I understand you’re just reporting the news. And I also agree, you’re not “questioning” his eligibility. Look back at my original post. My point is that we have little room to talk at this point. We haven’t heard the last of Noel’s situation, I guaran-damn-tee you. You can choose what to post, news or not, and I’m not sure that I would have posted this, given Noel’s situation.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:00 pm
Wow the ignorant trolls are hanging out here tonight. Ignore em, Drew, they are obviously really stupid.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:07 pm
10. Who’s the badass?
July 13th, 2012 at 10:13 pm
16 — Are you serious? Trolls? I just think it’s a mistake to point out an issue like Bennett’s when we have a guy who is in the same boat. How does that make someone a troll? Thanks for hiding behind your computer and throwing insults around. That’s big boy stuff.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:25 pm
Jason you are really ignorant. Drew talking about a former UK recruit and elgibility issues has nothing to do with Noel and does not affect how he does in class or not. If he does good then there shouldnt be problem if he does then we will see what happens. And another thing there is a difference Bennett is having problems with the clearing house about god knows what and Nerlens just needs to complete his classes and maintain his GPA Bennett has already graduated.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:26 pm
Drew, my boy, you need to get your panties outa the wad they are in.
These fine folks are just trying to help you out here. Your error in this post is somewhat similar to someone joking about Pitino lasting “only” 15 seconds when they themselves can’t even get past 60 seconds.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:38 pm
#19 – try reading before you start yap’n. I don’t think anyone has said that the situations are exactly alike. BUT, both Noel and Bennett could be ruled ineligible because of grades. Sure, it doesn’t sound like Bennett took care of business in the classroom. But, with Noel reclassify’n he has some work to do (we all knew that) and if he doesn’t take care of business, he would be in the same boat as Bennett – on the outside, looking in.
And NO, thin skinned drew would not be the cause of it. I would bet this post would come into conversation IF the sad event of Noel being ruled ineligible did happen.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:40 pm
It’s funny that some people are actually surprised by this. Bennett didn’t choose UNLV because it was the school he wanted to go to. Getting eligible has been the big question with him from Day One. He would have been at UF or UK if his academics weren’t so in question.
July 13th, 2012 at 10:41 pm
Yeah this shouldn’t have been posted
July 13th, 2012 at 10:43 pm
Regarding all the Noel posts, lets just hope he gets some solid grades this summer. Obviously it will sting if he is ineligible and we probably miss the tournament, but it will have nothing to do with Bennett or any posts. If he doesn’t qualify, it will be because he has an awful GPA and didn’t get what he needed taken care of done.
July 13th, 2012 at 11:24 pm
This whole argument is stupid. It’s like saying I can’t mention someone’s parents going through a divorce because mine may be. Even if it is just reporting a fact. It is a simple piece of news, I understand what Jason and others are saying, but saying a news website shouldn’t report simple facts is just stupid. I guess this means news stations can’t talk about a war between two other countries since we have been in one.
July 14th, 2012 at 12:31 am
@21 right there is my point you nor know Nerlens but you and other people are lumping him and Bennett together. We do not know if Nerlens is smart or not but your assuming he isn’t going to pass for what ever reason. And for people to look back at this post if he happens to not qualify is childish.
July 14th, 2012 at 12:36 am
I*
July 14th, 2012 at 12:56 am
I think indicating that we dodged a bullet because of his lack of being cleared is hypocritical. Would you give up noel and claim we dodged a bullet there also.
July 14th, 2012 at 2:00 am
1-2-3, Listen Dingbats, Drew clearly states that it would be a bigger headache to deal with if we had to worry about both guy’s qualifying. Nice well written article Drew.
July 14th, 2012 at 4:08 am
Gotta love the off-season.
July 14th, 2012 at 8:35 am
rocky – I’m fairly confident you couldn’t muster the gonads to say that anywhere near me, or 1 and 3 for that matter. Wait, wait, wait… is “rocky” aka drew?

I’m saying it to you now. My name is Rocky Colson. I Live in Marshall County. I am in the phone book (Murray-Aurora), crybaby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 14th, 2012 at 8:48 am
It’s one of those……you didnt pick us and went to a vastly inferior school to play ball and you don’t have the grades to qualify.
July 14th, 2012 at 9:09 am
maggard called this months ago. that’s why bennett chose unlv. they were more willing to try to get him eligible. that and unlv was an easier institution to qualify than uk.
July 14th, 2012 at 9:11 am
If I’m not mistaken, Bennett didn’t reclassify like Noel did. So how are their situations alike? I’m sure 99% of us didn’t have enough credits to go to college after our junior year. For those of you who are worried about Noel, I wouldn’t be. The young man has to pass 2 classes right now to come to UK and follow in the brows footsteps. I’m sure he will lock down and make the grades. Wouldn’t you? Chill out people.
July 14th, 2012 at 9:44 am
rocky – I’ve got people in Marshall Co. I’ll have them check to see if you are real or if you are just some jagoff kid trying to get this “Rocky Colson” beat down. Either way, I’ll be down at KY Lake next weekend. What kinda boat do you have, I’ll look for ya!
July 14th, 2012 at 12:04 pm
33 – Not a maggard hater at all, but there were many people saying this before he was. It was common knowledge among all recruiting circles and even among people who don’t follow recruiting that Bennett was in major jeopardy of qualifying. Bennett liked UF and UK the best.
