Chris Walker is a freak of an athlete and he’s drawing praise from everyone across the board. Earlier this week, SLAM Magazine called him “some sort of sick mix between Perry Jones III and the second coming of KG.” Evan Daniels tweeted from the LeBron James Skills Academy, “NBA scouts were drooling over Chris Walker last night. Had three mention him to me. Loved his effort, athleticism and his activity level.”
But the 6-foot-9 star in the class of 2013 still doesn’t have an offer from Kentucky, despite openly admitting he is very interested in the Cats. And yesterday, he told TJ Walker of Rivals.com that he doesn’t feel like a priority with UK, and he can’t wait around forever.
“If they don’t offer me this month or pretty soon I’m probably just going to cut them,” he told Rivals.
I think we all know better than to question Calipari’s recruiting tactics, but it does seem a little odd that he hasn’t offered a consensus top 10 player in the class, who is begging for attention from Kentucky. I assume it has something to do with wanting Julius Randle.
As always, trust Cal.

Why not go for both players? Interchangeable at PF and C. That versatility would be tough to defend.
July 12th, 2012 at 11:03 am
No he won’t. We could call him up the night before he is supposed to sign with Florida or whoever, tell him we want him, and he’d commit in a second.
July 12th, 2012 at 11:03 am
offer him….
July 12th, 2012 at 11:11 am
This is the problem w/ Walker. You can’t have that type of attitude — or at least put it out there in public — as a means to push UK to offer. Prima donna, the likes of which Calipari doesn’t want to deal with anymore, because he doesn’t have to with all of the kids interested in playing for UK. He dealt with DeMarcus out of necessity that first year, let’s be honest.
July 12th, 2012 at 11:11 am
Chris Walker obviously didn’t learn from the likes of Josh Selby, Tony Wroten, Quincy Miller, & Ricardo Ledo as guys who wanted to come to UK but were too interested in self-promotion and not coming across as humble, hard working guys who would be good team mates. Kid has a lot to learn and would be a big distraction and problem in the fish bowl that is Lexington with his current attitude and maturity level.
July 12th, 2012 at 11:13 am
^That said, he’s a great talent and I’d love to see him mature a bit to be able to handle the UK atmosphere, but with those statements it doesn’t seem like he’s making that progress.
July 12th, 2012 at 11:14 am
I’d bet it has to do with his grades or lack of. Last year Walker was teething about trying to get his grades up and there were rumors of that floating around on different pay sites. Still wish we could get him, but Cal knows what he’s doing.
July 12th, 2012 at 11:19 am
Do you all think it’s a coincidence that Cal gets awesome players who happen to be awesome people? He doesn’t want knuckleheads. I’m not saying Walker is one, but think about it.
July 12th, 2012 at 11:21 am
Doesn’t make sense to me. Top 10 kid who I have heard nothing but good things about (on and off the court). Parker and Randle are not coming to UK – just don’t see it happening. Walker, Harrisons, Young, Willis(eh) would be a hell of a class.
July 12th, 2012 at 11:34 am
How do you cut someone (team) who hasn’t offered? Sorry, I am cutting Kate Upton from my date on Friday.
July 12th, 2012 at 11:35 am
It’s pretty awesome that Cal has created a recruiting Aura around UK to this level. It’s to the point where top 10 recruits with NBA level potential are praying they get the golden ticket from UK. I trust what Cal is doing and if he wants the kid on the team then he’ll get his offer.
Never would have thought this possible when BCG was locking up 9th graders.

#10 That’s awesome. “I mean she’s never called me a doesn’t write so she is off the list. Guess Linda from Perkins will have to do for this weekend…”
July 12th, 2012 at 11:47 am
And I was wondering if JR was too selfish to play in KentuckY’s team-focused environment. Sounds like Walker is simply not mature enough to be patient. Unfortunate…for him. #5 said it well: Learn from those that have walked your path before you so that you don’t make the same mistakes they did. For not learning from others is simply foolish. And no one wants to be a fool. (Except maybe wannabe journalists from WVa and the NYT.)

#10) Genius. I am cutting Sofia Vergara from my vacation this weekend. No time for her knucklead antics.
I swear I like KSR and BBN a little more with each passing day!

#10, that was pretty much what I was thinking….one cannot eliminate something that does not exist
July 12th, 2012 at 12:03 pm
He has attitude problems and agent problems. Calipari has already passed. Sorry boutcha Chris. Next.
Go Cats.
July 12th, 2012 at 12:09 pm
We will sign him now. Cards players all take mirror shots. Especially in the bathroom while shirtless. Give up UK, Rick will sign him by texting a bathroom shot of hmself from Porcini’s.
July 12th, 2012 at 12:18 pm
He’s being compared to Perry Jones III? No thanks. Next, please…
Only kidding. I’m sure this kid will be great, but as everyone else has said to this point, Cal knows what he wants. Just because you don’t get an offer from UK doesn’t mean you’re not good enough necessarily, it just means the fit isn’t there whether it be skill, playing style, position depth, or even attitude. Good luck to him whether he’s celebrating #10 with us or losing in the Elite Eight with Florida.
July 12th, 2012 at 12:44 pm
I mean would you have a top 10 player and top 3 PF in the class or no PFs at all, or at least top 10. I mean he wants to come here and the talent is there, along with us watching him. Just offer him already so we definitely have someone at that spot. Looked what happened, we focused on bennett when Oriakhi was deciding and we missed on both.

None of us can say that we know for sure what’s going on with Cal and Chris Walker other than that he doesn’t currently have an offer. Three days ago, Walker supposedly told a Rivals.com writer that he expects to get an offer from UK sometime in July:
http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/barrier_noentry.asp?ReturnTo=&sid=&script=content.asp&cid=1383223&fid=&tid=&mid=&rid=
Now, three days later, a different writer at Rivals.com says that Walker told him that he’s going to remove UK from his list if he doesn’t get an offer soon. You can sure that Calipari has one or more reasons for not having offered him a scholarship at this point. And after four #1 rated recruiting classes in a row, the man has proven that he’s the best recruiter in the country and while we’d all like to know what goes on behind the scenes, he’s never going to reveal that. So we’re left trying to sort fact from fiction….which is hard to do when you’re talking about 17 yo kids and recruiting writers who are all trying to beat each other to the latest info.

Hope those shorts aren’t as transparent as the shirt seems to be.
July 12th, 2012 at 1:47 pm
#11 I have to agree, it is awesome what Cal had done at UK. I trust Cal on getting the right players here.
July 12th, 2012 at 1:48 pm
There’s always a reason….In Cal We Trust
July 12th, 2012 at 2:09 pm
We dont know how the question was worded and at the end of the day if UK wants him they will offer he doesnt have to beg.

Maybe it’s a “character issue”, Coach Cal has an eye for guys that are quality people. Trust Cal to make the best choices.
July 12th, 2012 at 3:16 pm
#16… I was thinking the same thing about the agent.

Why don’t you link the article Pu$$y
July 13th, 2012 at 8:56 am
Plain and simple, it’s comments like these…. “If they don’t offer me this month or pretty soon I’m probably just going to cut them,”. Oh my whatever will we do, please don’t cut us, bah… we’ll be okay.
If we need him Cal will go after him, but with an attitude of high and mighty, it’s possible Cal sees something we don’t.
It’s also because he has a Red (or Pink) cell phone cover… where’s the KY Blue? Priorities, Chris, Priorities,….
