Pro Tip: spend retirement getting 10 Irish Car Bombs deep and twit-pic’ing.
Since Rich Brooks has gone off to that far away land where retired football coaches go to yell at no one in particular while gardening, I feel that we’ve forgotten what a boss he was. The man did some great things for this program after starting out on a downswing. It was a beautiful run and, while we are praying and hoping that the football team can recapture that fire, we should all commemorate Papaw Brooks. This guy over at Team Speed Kills realized how awesome Rich Brooks life is on Twitter and captured it in this piece – “It’s Good to Be Rich Brooks”. Indeed it is, sir.
While some retirees like to spend their time making sure their whiny voice his heard while they complain about the sport that outgrew them (cough-BOB KNIGHT-cough), others escape to their dreamland full of tomato plants and fish-filled streams. Rich Brooks knows how to do it. You can’t blame the man for heading back out to the absolutely beautiful Oregon landscape, even if that meant leaving My Old Kentucky Home behind.
Read the post linked above for some great commentary and some honest truth about how Rich Brooks is kind of living the dream, or at least the retiree’s dream. I’ll let the post speak for itself a bit:
My favorite coach to follow is former Oregon and Kentucky head coach Rich Brooks. The main reason why I find it entertaining is because the guy is living a dream life. Everything you could hope for in your retirement, Brooks already has. Let’s take a look at how his spring and summer have been going.

This is what he’s up to right now. He’s tweeting pictures of his Alaskan cruise, celebrating his 50th anniversary (an amazing achievement) with his whole family.
If I have a quarter of the life that Rich Brooks leads in my retirement, I’ll be doing well.
Let’s check in on what Old Man Brooks has been up to today.
Now in Skagway and will take the train to the Yukon gold fields. Hope we get better weather than yesterday. Windy now but no rain.

Oh, that’s right. Doing awesome stuff. Of course. Brooks has gone from tomato-farming to living life like a retired Indiana Jones. And I am jealous. Even if it is in a time-travelling-maybe-one-day sort of way. I’m not one to wish my life away, but this guy is having a great time. And he deserves it.

Hopefully, after hes seen the world he can come back a coach at UK a few more years if Joker doesnt work out. I miss the brooks years cause no matter who we were playing the team always played hard and always gave us a fighting chance.

If you aren’t following Coach Brooks on twitter…you should.
He posts some really good pictures of the places he is visiting.
Talks a lot about his golf game too.

The man should send a thank you letter to Steve Krafthorpe every year.

6- Dude you’re an idiot… his success had nothing to do with krags. He took a shitty, perinial bottom feeder and turned them into an sec competitor. Yeah they didn’t the majority of their conference games, but in the sec they held their own. And particularly in 2007 & 2008, lexington was a tough place to come out of with a W for any team!

Good for Coach Brooks! Way to work that bucket list!
