Doc Rivers: “I need to call Calipari”

by @ 10:37 am. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Boston Celtics head coach Doc “My Son Better Pass The Ball To Anthony Davis” Rivers made a guest appearance on the Dan Patrick Show this morning and said two things that are noteworthy for Kentucky fans.

First, when talking about recruiting free agent Ray Allen back to Boston, Rivers said, “I need to call John Calipari. I need his help.” Allen will visit with the Miami Heat on Thursday and then fly out to meet with the Clippers on Friday, so Doc really could use some recruiting advice from Coach Cal to keep his shooter around.

Rivers also spoke about his point guard and new Money Team member, Rajon Rondo. He said, “Rondo is moody, stubborn… But he’s a genius.”

Funny how even his coach calls him moody and stubborn. Rondo is a great talent but these are the reasons he is NOT a top PG in the NBA.

  2. 1ukfan Says:

I have noticed how Rondo can be stubborn on the court. Seriously, you have your millions, just play the game of basketball without any problems…

  3. UK Wildcat Says:

Its idiotic not to call Rondo a top point guard in the NBA. He may not be the best point in the game, but he is in the top tier, without question. He averaged 11.7 assists per game this season, which is the best mark since John Stockton in 1995.

  4. Cats By Triple Digits Says:

It’s idiotic to think the only thing that matters are stats, especially at the point guard position. In order to be a top PG you have to be a leader. Butting heads with the coach and your future HOF SG isn’t a good look.

  5. Floyd Says:

Rondo is not the best player who plays point guard (the NBA “one guards” like Rose and Westbrook who are score-first, pass second), but he is easily the best true point guard in the NBA.

  6. GoCats2 Says:

my comment is awaiting moderation for some strange reason but I basically said the same thing as Floyd. Rondo is the best TRUE point guard.

  7. GoCats2 Says:

#4 Stockton and Isiah Thomas butted heads with their Hall of fame teammmates and hall of Fame coaches all the time. I guess they weren’t leaders or top point guards.

  8. MikeDitkasBigger Says:

Rondo IS the best pg in the NBA. He’s a horrific shooter, but he does everything is so well. Led the league in assists.
KG and pierce says hes the leader of the team. That say A LOT!

  9. RonG Says:

Really like Doc, but he can call Coach K since they’re connected by Austin.

  10. Cats By Triple Digits Says:

Never heard anything about John Stockton butting heads with anyone and there is a reason Zeke was not on the dream team. Rondo is the 5th best PG in the league behind Rose, Tony Parker, CP3 and Deron Williams in no particular order. Not saying he isn’t a great talent because he is. If he could just put his ego aside and get his head on straight he could be the best PG in the league. To the person that said he is the leader of the Celtics, get real, everyone knows Pierce and KG command the locker room.

  11. Common Sense Says:

When your own coach says you are moody and stubborn, then you got a real problem. Exactly the reason I don’t like Rondo, hate his attitude. I think I would prefer Cousins attitude over him.
