“If I fell off tomorrow would you still love me?”
Two references to 50 Cent on KSR? It must be your lucky day!
Yesterday, our very own Joker Phillips admitted two things to the Courier-Journal: 1) He watches episodes of Oprah that his wife tapes; and 2) He’s taking advice from rapper 50 Cent, whom Oprah interviewed on an episode:
C-J: Earlier this spring, UK athletic director Mitch Barnhart said no one needs to tell you that your seat is hot. So does that chair there feel warm to you?
Phillips: No, no. I know this might sound crazy, but I was looking at Oprah — my wife had taped an Oprah show with (rapper) 50 Cent. I like to listen to those types of interviews. And 50 Cent said you either worry or pray, but you don’t do both. And I don’t worry. I don’t worry.
The thing I’ve got to do is prepare myself mentally and prepare this football team mentally for the long haul. I know what we got into when we signed up for this. This is big-boy football, and we’ve had success in big-boy football, and we’ll continue to have success in big-boy football.
Okay, so he’s praying. That’s good. Joker continues on to say that he feels “really good” about the upcoming season, the quarterback position is “competitive,” and season ticket renewals are low because of ticket holders’ “financial reasons.”
“Big-boy football”? SMH…

Oprah interviewed 50 cent on a recent episode?? I will admit I have never watched one episode of Oprah but didnt she retire a couple years ago?

Financial reasons = I don’t want to waste my money on an inferior product.
I know, I know…I am a terrible fan, I suck, I should go follow another team, etc, etc, etc.

What do millionairs have to worry about?
July 3rd, 2012 at 11:39 am
1 he didn’t say recent he just said is wife taped. I’m gonna guess he meant dvr’d.
July 3rd, 2012 at 11:44 am
I am #teamjoker. And, I believe he taped it on a VCR he bought from Richie Farmer.
July 3rd, 2012 at 11:47 am
1- actually what you see now is a Hologram of Oprah. 10 years ago, the real Oprah ate herself.
R.I.P Oprah. oh and Matlock too~~~~~
July 3rd, 2012 at 11:47 am
I feel “really good” that this will be Joker’s last season.
July 3rd, 2012 at 11:47 am
Nice to know that the Joke is spending spare time listening to idiots like Oprah and 50 cents.
July 3rd, 2012 at 11:50 am
So in other words – he doesn’t care nor worry about people “SMH” or people concerned with “wasting money on inferior football”. But thanks for wasting your time!
July 3rd, 2012 at 11:55 am
we are the like the neighborhood 12 yr old in the SEC that tries to play sports with the 18yr olds
July 3rd, 2012 at 12:03 pm
its only july, give him a chance.
July 3rd, 2012 at 12:13 pm
By “Big Boy” football, does he mean Pop-Warner ?
July 3rd, 2012 at 12:15 pm
I don’t care what you think of Joker, he deserves 4 years at least.
July 3rd, 2012 at 12:22 pm
13-how you figure? does anyone think the team will be as talented/good & have the easy sched as joker did in his 1st year?? he had JRs & SRs on both sides of the ball (oh, and cobb & trevathan) AND had arguably the EASIEST schedule in 10-15 years yet went 6-7.
so why would anyone logically expect any joker team to do better than that 6- or 7-6
July 3rd, 2012 at 12:27 pm
Well he better “Get Mitch or die tryin”
July 3rd, 2012 at 12:37 pm
I do not hate Joker! I do hate that he is not flexible and runs a boring style. This more than anything will be his down fall. He communication style is terrible and offers no help. Like Jimmy Carter, he is a great guy, but not head coach material at Kentucky.

It’s his first year as HC, i know he was OC before but he still has to adjust. Rich Brooks had a great team and we were ranked #7 in the nation at one point, but we went to a Music City Bowl that season. This team this year is YOUNG and we have a brutal schedule, so I don’t expect much. I think there is talent on that field but as stated before they are young. In 2 years, this team will be really fun to watch.
July 3rd, 2012 at 12:55 pm
Anyone that actually thinks we can compete in the SEC is smoking some crazy stuff. You need to temper your expectations, enjoy the college football season, and hope we go to a bowl game every four years or so. A new coach would not change the scenario.
July 3rd, 2012 at 12:59 pm
It’s going on his third season as head coach and he’s just now saying he’s got to prepare himself and the team mentally ? smh
July 3rd, 2012 at 1:00 pm
I guess that means we r going to only play two quarters
July 3rd, 2012 at 1:02 pm
I guess that’s why basketball season ticket renewals are way down too…. Oh wait… There not!?… I swear… I really don’t think it gets it!!
July 3rd, 2012 at 1:19 pm
#17- this is his THIRD year as HC.
July 3rd, 2012 at 1:22 pm
The false enthusiasm being generated for this year’s team is so transparent it’s laughable. Wake up fans. This ship is going down in a major way and Phillips, Barnhart and crew all know it.

I know, I was refering to the season #14 was talking about, might of had bad grammar.
July 3rd, 2012 at 1:38 pm
Touchdown #2! Exactamundo!
July 3rd, 2012 at 1:40 pm
Oh and BTW: ‘Big Boy Football”? Joker is delusional otherwise known as whistling past the graveyard. Geez, 1.7 Mil for this?
July 3rd, 2012 at 1:41 pm
17 – Unfortunately, our young talent doesn’t compare to the young talent elsewhere in the SEC. We have been either last or next-to-last in recruiting in the SEC the past three seasons, so it’s logical to think we will continue to be hammered by the rest of the league two seasons from now.

We have been last or next-to-last in recruiting in the SEC EVERY season. Yet we have had recent success. You can’t base UK’s talent on the number of stars Rivals or Scout give them. It is too difficult for these databases to accurately predict someones “stars” besides the obvious freak athletes (like Julio Jones, Tim Tebow, etc.). That is why you see many football recruits not live up to their “stars” (Aaron Boyd****) and others greatly exceed their “stars” (Danny Trevathan**, Trevard Lindley**, Wesley Woodyard**, Myron Pryor**, Jacob Tamme**). In fact, according to scout, if you look at the 04′ class, we had 28 recruits, 4 (), 15 (**), 6 (***), and 1 (****). Compare that to the 12′ class with 29 recruits 0 (), 7 (**), 22 (***), and 0 (****), although some consider Towles a ****. THEREFORE, I stand by my statement that we have talent but they are YOUNG.
July 3rd, 2012 at 2:26 pm
14 yeah how many season have we won more the 7 games not many but look at that year we almost beat the champ auburn. also look how many games were close. the only game we got blown out was flordia. in the sec there are know for sure wins. if the ball went one way or the other we would of won more games. it about players making plays and not making mistakes that the reason they play the game
July 3rd, 2012 at 3:14 pm
Please, enough with the fb updates. We all know what coming. Its going to be an absolute $hit storm of a season.

Considering your name is “Durrrr” and you made a stupid comment, one might conclude that you are indeed retarded.
July 3rd, 2012 at 4:01 pm
Can we, as football fans, just secede from these basketball fan posers? Please!
July 3rd, 2012 at 9:42 pm
Joker will never beat Tennessee……oh wait he did that already. When was the last time that happened??? 1984?? But you all are right, he still sucks and nothing he does short of 3 undefeated seasons will convince you haters otherwise.
