Russell is a 6’4″ (apparently he has grown since the video above was made) shooting guard in the 2014 recruiting class who attends Montverde Academy, though his hometown is Louisville, Ky. Scout.com rates Russell as a 5-star prospect, and the second best shooting guard in the class. In a January interview, Russell listed Kentucky and Ohio State as two of his dream schools…

For a Frosh or Sophmore, those are pretty good moves, he even has the euro-step down and uses it correctly. A couple years of maturing and bulking up will be great for this kid.

4… Are you serious? This kid is legit… You just don’t know talent when you see it. Not to mention, the kis was only a sophopmore when that vid was shot. Plus, did you watch the video with his interview?… The kid seems like a smart, hard worker.

Saw this kid tear it up at KBA last summer with his AAU team. Already one of the best to ever come through the state, and I’ve never seen a squad of 14-15 year old tear through the competition like his Louisville Magic team did.

6) I was also there and saw the same thing. On a team of future high-D1 prospects, he was easily the best. He’s not freakishly athletic, but he’s going to develop into a very athletic player after he’s done growing. He’s got the fundamentals down and he’s a smart player. Best passing 2 guard I’ve ever seen at that age. Court vision and handles of a top 10 point guard, smooth jumpshooter and long defender that’s characteristic of an elite shooting guard. That tournament had kids his age like Shane Hall, Quentin Snider, Green and Grundy, Darion Burns and Jackson Davis… and Russell far the best prospect of the group. I’d really like to see this kid at UK in a couple years.

Thankful we have Cal. If Tubby was still hear he would have some reason why the kid wouldn’t fit our program. Or and even more likely the kid would have no interest in UK and ruining his Pro chances.
