You may remember the story of the UL fan group that sought to escalate the “Billboard Wars” between the two schools by buying a “Lexington is For the Birds” billboard in Lexington last week. The group sought to raise funds by selling 900 bumper stickers with the slogan on them, and then buy the billboard on a main Lexington road. Well the group has sold the stickers and now a source tells KSR that Lamar Advertising has refused their request for the billboard. According to the source, Lamar Advertising told the UL fan group that the billboard could be seen as degrading and they would not put it on one of their boards. The group is currently looking for other providers, but due to Lamar’s dominance in the market, their choice of locations has been shut down.

#4 – I don’t think this has to do with Lexington. Lamar wouldn’t allow any billboard that was “degrading” aka, smack talking, to be put up on either side. I gurantee they wouldn’t allow a Louisville Doesn’t Exist board either, and for good reason. How poorly would travelers think of Kentucky if that stretch of I-64 was covered in petty, trash talking billboards?

a) we don’t hang banners for conference championships, they happen too often.
b) you idiots can’t even remember that your steeplechaser, Matt Hughes, won back in 2011. If I’m not mistaken, that wasn’t this year.
c) If you’re going to argue individual championships, we have had numerous track and field individual championships in past years including one of the last guys to ever beat Usain Bolt as well as a national tennis runner-up, a sport with on 2 types of events (doubles and singles) rather than 30 something events in track and swimming.
d) Don’t argue small sports, ours are more successful.
e) Get in a real conference where conference championships mean something.

One thing about this that you will find interesting, is that the Lamar director of sales, Mike Gibson(a uk grad), approved the billboard and said it would be put up if the funds were gathered. Now that the amount has been met, he went back on his word. It will be on the WHAS @ 530. This situation isn’t going to paint Lamar advertising in a positive light.

I’m not trying to portray myself as a UK fan. Nor am I badmouthing UK in any way. Its just bad business. Watch the news report. The guy who runs BigTimeYurts met with Lamar to get the billboard approved before he started the whole campaign. No one would have bought the bumper stickers if the reassurance wasn’t there. Now he is mad that the funds have been raised. Its just bad business.

Other than the fact it was approved? Watch the news story man, it was a weak move by Mike Gibson. He won’t take any calls on the issue either, he is tucking his tail between his legs and hiding from the issue.Some UK fans are so stupid to let the rivalry influence everything in their life. I have news for you, most U of L and UK fans are great people, and there are bad apples in both groups as well. It is people like you 61 that have no life outside of anything other than college sports that give UK fans a bad rep. There is a reality where having a job, friends, and a healthy family is more important than The Yewaky Waldcayuts. And for Kuric’s charity, he helps terminally ill kids and under-privelaged kids have a little more joy by buying them presents and delivering them to him, and helping out their families.
