Go vote for the 2011-2012 team’s nickname at CoachCal.com

by @ 12:00 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Everyone loves a nickname, right?? That’s what the folks at CoachCal.com are banking on today, with this poll asking readers to give the 2012 National Champions a nickname. Here are the choices:

The Undeniables
Team-8 (as in teammate)
The Young Guns
The Young and the Relentless
The Selfless Seven

So far, “The Undeniables” is in the lead. On the radio show, Matt and crew threw around a couple of suggestions, including the ever-popular “Devastation Incorporated” and “Super Kittens.”

Why can’t we just call them National Champions?

  8. Bill Says:

    Devastation Incoporated

  9. slappy Says:

Oh no. The team nickname has to come about organically, not through some online poll & a bunch of awful fan suggestions (see: “Showtime”). Let Cal name it and be done with it.

  10. paul harvey Says:

    I vote for #3 suggestion

Would UK fans STOP trying to name the teams every freaking year!!!

I love, I mean LOVE UK basketball.
But holy CRAP. This naming thing is border line retarded.

In a blue moon, once in a Gen’ team fine, Fiddlin 5, Rupps Runts, Unforgettables….Fine.

Second If you’re going to name then stop this ‘UN’ crap…it’s lame and shows ZERO imagination.
    Un-this, Un-that….

    LAME L A M E

How about the 2012 University of Kentucky Men’s National Championship team!!!
    Nahh..

    Undeniables or Un-Incorperated sounds better

  21. STI Says:

    I vote for #17

  22. Jorts 4 City Commissioner Says:

“The Unforgettables” is the only nickname of any team I can remember (excluding, of course, Fab Five, Rupp’s Runts & the Fiddlin’ Five — but honestly, who remembers those actual teams?). I know there were the Unbelievables & Untouchables while Pitino was there, but those names were forced, as I don’t even remember which were which. Certain teams naturally lend themselves to a monicker. Despite the fact I love this team & it will always hold a special place because of the title, I just don’t see one here. I agree with Mrs. TT: Why can’t we just call them National Champions?

  23. BC Says:

    The Gr8 ones.

  24. beth Says:

Devastation, Incorporated, but it has to be sung in Fake Beckham’s voice.

  25. Seneca Says:

You can’t “vote” on a nickname. Those that disagree aren’t going to call them that.

Maybe they won’t have nickname, so what? They were a heck of a team and got us #8.

  26. BrandiLeAnn07 Says:

    Super Kittens has my vote.

  27. PostGrad Says:

    Cal’s Kids

  28. redeem team Says:

    Redeem team

  29. TC Says:

UNRIVALED the march through the tournament was made sweeter with the defeat of Indiana, Louisville and Kansas. I don’t think you could ask for a better set of games to win a championship.

  30. idk Says:

    Team Restore

  31. Jatt Mones Says:

I think there should be a 50 year ban on UN-anything.

  32. Sherry P. Says:

    The 8Team

  33. Cooter92 Says:

I really don’t like the “selfless seven”. It belittles all the other teammates. They may not be superstars but they are very much a part of the team!!! I think calling the the “selfless seven” is selfish in tone.

  34. Joseph Diesel Says:

    Davis-station incorporated

  35. Cooter92 Says:

I wonder if UCLA knows its just a matter of time???

  36. Eb Says:

    The redeem cats

  37. Dude Says:

Hey 20, do us all a favor an do this: 1.find a bridge. 2. Jump as far as you can. You’re just a miserable human being. Gfy

  38. Homeboy Clark Says:

    How about “The Golden Boys”

  39. pioneer Says:

    National Champs!

  40. warrior Says:

Warrior says “University of Kentucky Men’s Varsity Basketball Squad” is moniker Warrior prefers.

  41. Dude-lookslikealady Says:

#37 – I actually agree w/ OMG. The nickname stuff is overplayed. No one remembers any of the nicknamed teams except for the few that Rupp had and the Unforgetables. And the “Un” is worn out.

  42. Jim Taylor Says:

    Cal’ Kiddie Kats

  43. Deacon Pookie Says:

How a out the Oneders ?

  44. tltaworl Says:

    I like Team8

  45. TShlew Says:

I really wish “Won and Done” would stick. Fits this team and the whole Calipari generation really well IMO.

  46. rjr Says:

You can’t force a name. It just may be that this team doesn’t have a name.

  47. BEst Says:

    how about “The Best”?

  48. BigCnNC Says:

    What’s wrong w/ Team Gr8ness???

  49. Wade Cunningham Says:

    How about “Swat Team”

  50. TCurtis Says:

    the Won and Dones

  51. Donna's Beef Curtains a la mode Says:

    Tubby went up to Minnesota,
He was looking for a team to steal.
    A trail of radiator fluid,
Was how they found Saul behind the wheel.

  52. Champ Says:

To me, this team will always be Devastation Incorporated

  53. Goon Says:

The Great (Gr8) Ones, for sure.

  54. kfund Says:

If a nickname hasn’t come yet, and they’re already gone why continue to force this issue? Just call them champions.

  55. Mike Ranney Says:

I don’t know if you realize it or not, but The Undeniables was the 1998 team’s name. I like something along the lines of the “Young Guns” or maybe even ” The Youngdeniables”.

  56. Sportacus Says:

    Crazy Gr8s

  57. participant Says:

I am in agreement with many. Nicknames come naturally. Let’s drop naming from the outside. The team earns and selects the name.

  58. Catfish Says:

    It’s Devastation, Inc.

  59. Mike in Paducah Says:

Without a doubt, it’s Devastation Incorporated!

  60. ToCat Says:

Personally, I like “Won and Done”.

  61. Oboro Cats Fan Says:

    55. The 1998 Team was the Comeback Cats officially. Not The Undeniables. And although I do agree with some on here that UK has a slight obsession with naming teams, I personally think this team deserves it. If Rupp’s Runts, the Unbelievables (1997) and the Draft Cats can get named, this team deserves it. Although I think the “Un…” names are quickly becoming worn out, the Undeniables seems like the best fit of any of the ones above (although Team Gr8ness has a nice ring to it as all.

  62. ESPNMembership Says:

Team 8′s is killer because 8 guys played to get number 8 and they were the best teammates to each other I have ever witnessed but I also like the Won and Done’

  63. dsdfds Says:

“They-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named” since Bobby Knight was completely afraid to even say the name because the team’s power was so great that a mere mention might have unleashed unholy forces upon him…

  64. FlySoup Says:

    BIG BLUE MACHINE

  65. DerbyDemon Says:

    The MAGNIFICENT 7.

  66. Ky christian Says:

    Undefendables

  67. ashley Says:

What was so wrong with “swat team”?

  68. dave Says:

    this is tough….
    1-devastation inc.
    2-UofJodiemeeks
    3-super kittens
    4-Cal’s 4-0 vs UofL

  69. NotInsertNameHere Says:

Swat Team is the only answer here as they broke the single season block record as a team. Anything with 8, super, devastation, prefixed “un” is just lame. We called them Swat Team during the season because it came about naturally. That is their name.

  70. BLUE JEEZY Says:

    How about The Great Eight!!!

  71. BLUE JEEZY Says:

Or, to borrow from history, the Fabolous Five II….

  72. ChairmanRowe Says:

If they go with Young Guns, who gets to be Emilio Estevez?

  73. NotInsertNameHere Says:

Alternative to Swat Team (the best name) since not all players blocked a lot of shots, would be 38 Special. Since they are “technically” the only team to win that many games in a season.

  74. Mudcreekmark Says:

I agree with some of the above comments. Why do we have to name these teams every freakin year. And what is up with the Un…. fill in the blank? It was unique back when the original Fabulous Five was named or the Fiddlin Five was named because of a comment Rupp made and maybe Rupps Runts was OK but ever since the Unforgettables it has been Unbelievable.

  75. DrSayre Says:

I just tweeted Coach Cal to let him know my support is for the write-in campaign of “Devastation Incorporated”

  76. ThatOneGuy Says:

They DON’T need a freakin nickname, or gimmicks to sell t-shirts.. they are… THE 2012 NATIONAL CHAMPION KENTUCKY WILDCATS!!! PERIOD

  77. steve Says:

    The 1st Rounders.

  78. Bear Sterns Says:

    Too Big To Fail.

  79. Bernie Brinkman Says:

How could you name them anything other than

    “THE BROTHERHOOD”

  80. Thisistheone Says:

    Pure platinum

  81. MikeDitkasBigger Says:

    I have a gr8 name…. 2012 NATIONAL CHAMPS! All the “nickname” that I need.

  82. MikeDitkasBigger Says:

    Point Blank Period ;)

  83. Hilljack Says:

    1. The Ca8s (it’s what we do…puff our chest to those inferior to us)
    2. Fab Five Whoactuallywonandchampionship (Jk…but seriously)
    3. Won and Done

Everything else is dumb. Except Unrivaled and Davisstation.

I agree nicknames need to be organic, but eff it; it’s Cal’s first. Well let him enjoy it…more than…my “first”

  84. Parker Says:

Why not call them “the won and dones” and if and when we win again with cals way of play well figure it out then?

  85. xcoach Says:

The Unselfish. I put this on line right after the championship was over.

  86. Uk fan Says:

I liked Clutch Cats, because that’s what ESPN called us on the front cover! Or the Untouchables
