Don’t say the Cards don’t get props. This time they have them from the DailyBeast.com. Giving UL its due, the Daily Beast ranks the Cards in the Top 25 of the most crime-rattled colleges in the United States. The list includes colleges ranging in quality from Yale/Duke to the #1 overall winner, Alabama-Huntsville. No matter the quality of the institution, placing on the top of any list is grounds for celebration in Louisville. Whether it is winning national championships in Steeplechase or being a campus where at any given moment you can be robbed, Louisville stands out. #L1Cifyoustillhaveyourwallet

Wonder what % was prostitution..
June 19th, 2012 at 8:59 pm
if you look at all the statistics…
Louisville is far more dangerous than the others. It appears as if they give murders the highest point value, however, Ul only trailed the #1 school by 1 killing.
As far as the burglaries, aggravated assaults, robberies, and bath salt usage Louisville leads the nation by almost triple.
Since the murders on UL campus were 2, and the leading school was 3 I find the additional weight to that field to be over emphasized.
The average student is far more likely to get assaulted, robbed, burglarized, or dry humped in a dark restuarant after hours.
This clearly shows Louisville as the toilet of the state.

Wow, Alabama-Huntsville must have a lot more racketeering charges against their coaching staff than I would have believed.
June 19th, 2012 at 9:03 pm
I go to UofL (but im a kentucky fan) and you literally feel like you are gonna get mugged whenever you set foot on campus…
June 19th, 2012 at 9:05 pm

No lie, if you were to add rape to the list of crimes used as criteria for this list, UL shoots straight to the top.
My wife had a scholly to UL. First thing they told her is YOU DO NOT WALK PAST THE FOOTBALL DORMS AT NIGHT. EVER.
June 19th, 2012 at 9:18 pm
…another 15 seconds of fame…

June 19th, 2012 at 9:32 pm

June 19th, 2012 at 9:43 pm
Dated two girls who went to UofL. They hated UofL. They both were sexually assaulted and when they called public safety they both said they got push back because the officers didn’t want to write on the complaint what actually happened. And yes, in one case, an athlete was involved.
June 19th, 2012 at 9:52 pm
The majority of these crimes had to involve UL football players; during the Coach Krap tenure, UL players were running wild ! If they include the crimes involving UL players at 4th Street, those numbers sky rocket !! UL is in a beyond shady area. Think about how much worse it would be if UL was a real college with the majority of kids living on or near campus, and not a commuter college.
June 19th, 2012 at 9:56 pm
UK’s numbers would be higher if farm animals could report “domestic” abuse.

Pajama party at my house…er my mom’s house Friday night. Guys only! Pajamas optional.
June 19th, 2012 at 10:24 pm
And to think, these all have to happen during class hours, no one actually lives on campus, they commute back to their parents
June 19th, 2012 at 10:40 pm
It’s not like UofL beat UK in every sport but basketball this past year. Oh wait, they did. UK will completely destroy UofL in football this year though. Oh wait, UK’s football team and every other UK team besides basketball is a joke. It will be great when UK basketball loses the rivalry game this year and UK fans wont have anything to say.
June 19th, 2012 at 10:50 pm
UK football sucks do bad we beat you all by 30 last year…oh that’s right, it was only 7…why do us moronic fans think we are so good if that’s all we could beat a terrible UK team by? UofL football is so good we got to go to the prestigious Belk Bowl. Yeah so what if we lost, we still got to go to a bowl and y’all didn’t…and they say you can’t polish a turd…we proved that wrong! All I can do us dream of beating you all in basketball this year, but deep down I know it won’t happen…y’all are and will remain undefeated in da Bucket! Throw ya L up!
June 19th, 2012 at 10:50 pm
Wouldn’t the proper description be “crime-RIDDLED”, not “crime-RATTLED”?
June 19th, 2012 at 10:51 pm
L1C4 We be da bestest eva!
June 19th, 2012 at 10:54 pm
I live in huntsville – this list is bunk. UAH is number one because a teacher went crazy and killed other teachers in a freak outburst? There are middle schools in huntsville with more crime than UAH lol. Louisville sucks though.
June 19th, 2012 at 10:57 pm
Bragging about beating UK in football is like bragging that you’ve never been to jail. It’s just stupid…well, unless you’re a UL fan. Then maybe you have.

I hate to say it, but this list is rather inaccurate. I would know, as I assist in compiling the BJS statistics for Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. That’s not to say that Louisville’s campus is safe, but within the perimeters of the campus crime is extremely isolated, and incredibly rare for a metropolitan university. My guess would be that this study compiled statistics from campus police departments, and the University of Louisville police department covers the surrounding two miles. If it is to be assumed that Louisville Metro’s police statistics are also taken into consideration, then a duplication of statistics would occur, as crimes committed within a five mile radius of the university are reported to NCIC by both the campus police and LMDC. The inaccuracy of the statistics are self evident, as the Belknap Campus of Louisville has zero reported homicides in the Bureau of Justice Statistics era. The campus itself sees little property crime, and its only statistical eyebrow-raiser would be sexual assaults; although that is in comparison the the Kentucky per capita rating (UK’s campus sees a similar number of sexual assaults annually, and IU-Bloomington sees almost the amount of Louisville’s and Kentucky’s combined). However, 4th, 3rd, and 2nd streets as they extend to downtown north from Belknap, and the Brandies neighborhood just east of Belknap, are crime havens, and armed-robber territory. It’s nice to be the better university, but let’s do so with a little more class and not attempt to use flawed, second-rate studies to do so. It makes the lot of us look foolish. We have eight national championships.. Loserville hasn’t won one in almost thirty years. Let’s talk about that.
June 20th, 2012 at 7:40 am
Louisville metro stats are taken in consideration because campus police IS louisville metro police.
June 20th, 2012 at 8:16 am
26- complete horse shiz.
June 20th, 2012 at 9:12 am
26. I would consider Old Louisville a part of campus though, as a good chunk of it is essentially student housing. The car theft numbers I would say are accurate (I have at least 5 friends that I know have had car theft happen…including the car itself being stolen). Old Louisville may inflate the numbers, but I would say its justified.

It’s no wonder Alabama-Huntsville is #1, there is a rapist in Lincoln Park. He’s climbing in yo windows, he’s snatching yo people up, trying to rape em. Hide yo kids, hide yo wife, and hide yo husband too ’cause they raping everybody up in here.

June 20th, 2012 at 12:26 pm
18. To bad that in KY the only thing that really does matter is Basketball, and we happen to be the best at it!
June 20th, 2012 at 12:52 pm
As much as I hate UofL…Virginia Tech isn’t even on that list (no disrespect intended) so I really doubt the credibility of that publication.

#26 – UKAllDay – So streets within a radius of a University shouldn’t be considered in the crime statistics of a University???
What planet do you live on?
Many students live off campus. They have little money since they are having to fund their education, book, and food costs. Therefore, they rent in the surrounding area. Lower rent areas are extremely tempting, and if a University is surrounded by a crap neighborhood, then let’s not act like it’s not part of the experience.
Think of it like this: Your daughter is going to college next year. Do you value the data this study produced in your determination of where you’d recommend she attend college.
Answer: Absolutely.
