2014 Johnson Central (KY) forward Shane Hall says Kentucky’s Orlando Antigua texted his dad on Friday
— Garrett Tucker (@GTuckerF150) June 17, 2012
It’s always exciting when Kentucky shows interest in bringing on an in-state kid to play for the Wildcats. That is exactly what happened recently when Orlando Antigua called the father of Johnson Central’s Shane Hall. Since the unlimited contact rule kicked in this week, the Johnson Central (KY) product has heard from UAB, Miami (OH), Butler, Northern Kentucky, Indiana, Alabama, Southern Miss, Stanford, Wake Forest, Seton Hall, Virginia Tech, Indiana State, Western Kentucky, Cincinnati, Tennessee Tech, and now Kentucky. Let’s hope that Shane can be the next Jon Hood, Twanny Beckham, Mark Krebs, or maybe even the next Patrick Sparks or Darius Miller.
Check out the video below of Hall’s highlights. As only a Freshman in the video, the kid looks like he could be a serious D-1 talent.

Great that he’s getting some looks. Any word who’s been in contact with Sheldon Clark forward Justin Johnson? Kid’s pretty good.
June 17th, 2012 at 4:29 pm
He plays in a very white part of the state, evidently.

#2 sounds like a very racist statement
June 17th, 2012 at 4:34 pm
#1 IMO Johnson is better than Hall. Not as tall, but more physical.
June 17th, 2012 at 4:35 pm
I know Indiana, Tennessee, Butler, Purdue, and Western have been in contact with Johnson
June 17th, 2012 at 4:53 pm
3- what is racist about pointing out the truth? do you see any black players or people in the whole video? lol! the rap song cracked me up is that racist too?
June 17th, 2012 at 5:02 pm
No knock against Mark Krebbs, Twany Beckham, or Jon Hood, but why not hope he’ll be the next Darius Miller or Patrick Sparks?
June 17th, 2012 at 5:06 pm
#7 I agree, basketball wise… why would you want to be any of those three?
June 17th, 2012 at 5:21 pm
Touche, I fixed it 7 and 8

Well 2014 would be about the right time to replace Polson. Cal knows it’s important to have a token local white kid on the team.

@5: I’d heard that IU and Tennessee had shown interest. I hope he ends up going somewhere big and makes an impact. It’d be awesome for him and Martin County!

Boy can ball for a freshman, he’s going to be one to keep an eye on. He’ll own the ct his Jr and Sr years.

Johnson and Hall are both potentially major talents. If they continue to develop, it would not be shocking to see both of them in blue and white, although they will certainly not be five-star players. Johnson concerns me more, as he may have hit his physical ceiling – Hall has more star potential.

I coach Shane in AAU and trust me guys he loves UK but hes not going there to be a Hood or Beckham. He wants to go to a place where he can play not watch whatever level that may be. But he has a huge upside and we will find the right fit wherever it may be. He will have TONS of options!!

6- It is racist by the very words and tone. Common sense bro.
June 17th, 2012 at 10:44 pm
I saw Shane at the state tournament this weekend and he dominated against Lafayette. Kid dominated Jackson Davis. Had about 36 pts 13 Rebs and 7 blocks. He dunked on Davis twice. He will definitely not be a Jon Hood, I think he will go somewhere he will play which I think he could play at UK

Appears to be a bit slow. Coach Cal will change his offence to make him a 1 and done. Hall will be a top 10 draft pick during the 2018 CBA Draft.

Kasongo would be the better choice.

I’m from the mountains, grown up in a basketball rich county in the 13th region and I’ll leave it at that. Hall is good, don’t get me wrong. I’ve seen him play a few times as a freshman. But whether or not #2′s comment is racist it is true. The 15th region is terrible. What Shelby Valley did was great for the area like Clay County in the 80′s and early 90′s but UK now!? No, with some physical improvement maybe the likes of a UAB, Wake Forest, Purdue, etc. Just throwing out names. Don’t get your hopes up, there’s a 6’6″ low D-1 power forward from Buckhorn named Matt Day that would murder this kid and he’s going to UVA-Wise. Check out Braxton Beverley from Perry Central in a few years, McDaniel from Clay County who won Mr. Golf as a freshman and his brother is a UK already if that says anything, and Cam Justice from Knott Central. Someone already mentioned Johnson from Sheldon Clark. Country boys who play like they’re from the city.

I am from Martin County and had the pleasure of watching alot of 15th region action this past year. I too always pull to see a eastern Kentucky boy make a name for himself at the D-I level. When I first watched Johnson play I thought the kid was terrible. I thought his off the court demeanor was terrible as well. The boy could not score if he was outside 3ft of the goal. Layup or dunk or nothing was all he showed. Free throw shooting was horrible. Seen him go 1-15 from the line in a game against Johnson Central. But the kid went through an improvement period like nothing I had seen within one season. By the end of the year he was knocking down jumpers, hitting a few 3′s and playing terrifc off the ball on offense. Offensive rebounding was fantastic. On and off the courst his attitude seemed mature. And nothing against any other kid, but in the district championship he dominated that Shane Hall kid. Now we can all say one game is one game but the fact remains that when it counted, Johnson became aggressive and stepped up and Shane Hall faded. That happened in Johnson County, within a hostel environment. Now of course JC went on to the state and SC fell at the hands of a horrible east Ridge team in the Region, but head to head Johnson was the better player, by far. My perdiction, if Johnson improves just a little over the next two seasons, he is a better ball player than Derek Willis. And willis was good enough to sign with the Cats.

No way he plays at kentucky
June 18th, 2012 at 1:34 pm
He will have to show himself in the AAU circuit before I’ll be impressed.. Hope he turns out good but hard to tell playing in the 15th region against that competition. Very hard to to tell talent level playing against KY comp..

I’ve seen Shane Hall play a lot. He has improved a lot since his Freshman year. It’s fun to watch this kid play. I’ve watched him play high school basketball and AAU basketball during the summer. His high school team doesn’t give much help for Shane during high school, but still is dominant. He is the most athletic player in the Class of 2014 in the country.
I, as well, have seen him play this last weekend and he put on a show against Lafayette. 38 points, 13 boards, and 8 rebounds! WOW! He had 7 dunks (All were very impressive including he dunked on Davis several times). He took him 1 on 1 many times.
Another time I was impressed was when Shane Hall played in the Regional Championship against East Ridge. I believe i was 34 points, 19 rebounds, and a lot of blocks. Most impressive athlete I’ve seen.
By the way, why does everyone have something to say about Justin Johnson? Every time I see something about Mr. Hall. I haven’t seen anything about Justin in a long time. Johnson isn’t that good and isn’t nearly as tall as he says. He’s about 6’5(with shoes) and tries hard, but doesn’t have much talent. He’ll end up probably at EKU or Upike, which is good for him.

How tall is the kid ?
June 18th, 2012 at 3:08 pm
I’ve heard 6’8-6’9. He is every inch of 6’8, it’s not stretched out any, if anything, he may be 6’9.

I am loving all this. This whole Hall vs. Johnson debate just makes the upcoming season exciting. It’s great to have two players from our area who are potentially on the verge of gaining some tri-state attenetion if not nationally. And the fact that they both play in the same district is exciting. Now Johnson is not 6’9, he’s not 6’8, he’s not even 6’7 or 6’6. He might be 6’5 at best, but he is physical, he plays with emotion and toughness, and he is athletic. And to say he dosent have much talent….hmmmm not quite sure you have seen him play much and definately sure you missed the district chapionship last season #23. I’m not quite sure Hall and the rest of the Golden Eagle team would agree after that game. I cant throw any stats at you because I dont know what they were but I would feel safe to say Johnson had 20 and 10 with about 4 turnaround jump shots in the post from about 15ft directly in the eye of Shane Hall and at least 4 dunks, one in which he posterized Hall off a missed shot from BJ Moore. However, its a fun debate, will see what this season brings. BTW, it must be noted and someone has got to get the footage from WYMT and get it posted on you tube. Johnson had one of the top 10 dunks in the state from last season at Perry County Central toward the end of the season on a tommahawk slam over PCC’s big center.

Johnson isn’t that athletic.
I seriously find it hilarious that you people even consider Johnson in the same league as Hall. Hall is a major division 1 recruit, while Johnson is a low mid major recruit (EKU, Indiana State, etc.)
You will see in the next 2 years. Just wait and see.
June 19th, 2012 at 4:02 pm
Johnson isn’t big enough to be a power forward to be a major recruit, at about 6’5, there isn’t a lot of demand for a 6’5 PF at any big time school.
