“I’ve Had Enough”
The big (unfortunate) news of the day was I’ll Have Another’s injury during training, which resulted in a scratch for the Triple Crown hopeful. We’re sad to hear that around here, because we’re always waiting for the next TC winner so that we can name some of the newer streets in the Hamburg area. But nobody’s more disappointed than the Belmont organizers, who are trying desperately to convince people that their race still matters. Many folks who know horses felt that this was really the year that it could happen, considering that the Belmont is a long race, and I’ll Have Another was essentially a long-distance, home-stretch style horse. Resident horse expert Stuart Hammer* was certainly one of them.
We always think a horse one win away from Triple Crown can win it, but IHA was built for longer races. He would have won the Belmont.
— Stu Hammer (@StuartHammerKSR) June 8, 2012
*Stuart Hammer knows nothing about horses.
It’s sad for the trainers and owners, and all of the horse racing fans, but rest assured that I’ll Have Another will spend the remainder of his days as one of the happier, more sought after studs. He’s probably got his stall in the broodmare barn all picked out and ready to go. Got it decorated and everything. You earned it, champ. As for the busted Triple Crown?
Well, there’s always next year.
-Speaking of next year, many of us spent at least a few minutes today checking out Chad Ford’s Twitter feed for official Combine measurements of next year’s most coveted NBA players. Ford even drew attention to the great measurement for MKG:
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist 6′ 5.75″ socks 6′ 7.5″ shoes and 7′ 0″ wing 8’8.5″ reach. Great measurement for him #NBACombine

For a guy teams are looking at to be a tenacious defender and good position rebounder, those numbers mean a lot.
-What stood out to me though is the measurement of Terrence Jones. It’s strange to think of him as being as close to 6’10″ as 6’9″, but if you see him in person it’s really not surprising. He really is the one guy who just looks so much bigger in person than he looks on the court.
-Oh, but wingspan isn’t enough for you? You want to know who has the biggest hands? Well, that’s a strange thing to say, but okay.
Biggest hands: Andrew Nicholson 10″ length. Royce White 11.5″ width
— Chad Ford (@chadfordinsider) June 8, 2012
You know what they say about big hands. ”Big hands, uhmm….. high… draft pick.” That’s what they tell me, anyways.
-Overall great numbers for the former Cats; hopefully that will help their already good draft stock.
-Speaking of Draft Combine, Jeff Goodman believes that Darius Miller has been looking so good that he could go late in the first round. That’s not surprising to us, because we’ve seen what he’s capable of, but for the guys at camp getting their first good look at Darius, it’s important that he’s making such a strong showing.
-Former 2014 recruit, and possible new “Golden Eyes,” Wayne Selden reclassified to the 2013 class, joining the Harrison twins as premier guards that Cal wants on his team. I gotta say, I had no idea it was so easy to get out of high school early. Everybody’s doing it now. I wish I was good at basketball, too.
-UK has scheduled Transylvania for another exhibition game to kick off the 2012-13 season. They want to try those last 36 minutes over again.
-Mike Pratt confirmed that he thought BCG was not a good fit at Kentucky. But because he’s Mike Pratt, he figured it out long before many of us. Interesting information from the podcast today; check it out below (or just click here) if you haven’t already.
Tune in tomorrow as we bring you news about the NBA Playoffs and the Belmont, which lately have had a lot in common. Both have seen precipitous ratings drops due to injury, and both have to convince people that they’re still relevant.

How can Royce White play in the NBA when he is afraid of Flying on planes?
June 8th, 2012 at 11:57 pm
Someone really doesn’t know anything about the horse business; stallions don’t have stalls in the broodmare barn.
Gotta feel bad for Mr. Reddam & Doug O’Neill, and the whole team; that’s the horse business, one minute you’re on the highest of highs & in a split second you’re on the lowest of lows.

Further confirmation that this is a basketball only blog (plus a little horse racing shout).

Doug O’Neill and his drugging of horses will not help the storm for I’ll Have Another not racing.

you know what they say about big hands……something about giant penises

6) no, it should be kept quiet

It’s should be no surprise that Mike Pratt could figure it out so quickly. He used to be a head coach, himself. Now if we had a athletic director who could do so well at determining who would make us a good basketball coach. (OK, so Barnhart is batting .500 when it comes to finding us basketball coaches. I’ll give him that much.)

Just read an article on the USA under 18 tryouts. The Harrison twins were cut, along with 3 burger boys. Yet, Montrezl Harrell not only made the team but is projected to start. NBA draft guy said he is the best big man there and he should have been a top 25 recruit. Starting to wish we would have offered him.

Send Mike Pratt over to a football practice to see if Joker is a good fit.

Fruity post.

4 – Well, from my experience actually working in the horse industry (not sure what your experience is), prime studs do get a stall in the broodmare barn. The saddlebred farm where I worked had a similar situtation: multiple-time world champion that had retired. Guess where they kept it? That’s right, he had his own spot in the broodmare barn. Right on the far northern corner. So yeah, it happens.

15. No, fruity comment section

Awesome piece, i wish i knew it was that easy to get out of high school early too. I need an Anthony Davis type of growth spurt so i can call The Bluegrass Stallions or Kentucky Bison to sign me. Excited about Darrius, he deserves it, felt like he hit every shot. Every person at the combine seemed to mention how big Terrence looked, even around the Power forward group, he looked like Zeus compared to some of these other guys. Lamb looked good, not great but good, i liked his defense a lot. Can Cal get his undefeated season soon? 2013-14 looks like the year.

18. ^completely agree. Cant wait to see what the ’13 class ends up looking like but its gonna be special. Harrisons and Seldnen couple with Parker Randle and either Young Williams or Walker. Oh I forgot Willis..

Some team is about to waste a lot of money and time on Royce White. Yeah, he is a ‘talent’ but ole boy has too many issues to make him a millionaire overnight AND expect him to make every flight.
June 9th, 2012 at 11:42 am
how can royce white have 11’5″ width hands? i don’t even think mine are 11’5″ both hands combined. someone needs to lay down the crack pipe.
June 9th, 2012 at 12:38 pm
how can Gilchrist get an inch and 3/4 tall by wearing shoes? obviously you gain heigth by wearing them.. but nearly 2 inches come on man
