From Rick Noush…
This weekend the best high school seniors from Kentucky and Indiana face off in their annual showdown. As a kid nothing seemed like a greater honor then being a Kentucky All-Star. It still means you’re one of the best, but the game has lost its luster in recent years, due to the fact that the Bluegrass Boys have lost 24 of the last 27. That hurts but you can’t hate, Indiana simply has more talented basketball players than KY.
This year Indiana has a more powerful team then usual, with all 13 players on the roster signed to D-1 schools. Michigan State commit Gary Harris is the stud of the group that has 3 future Hoosiers . On the other hand, Kentucky’s 3 best schools are Boston U, Morehead, and the D-II University of Evansville. Most IN guys will be Big 10 household names, whereas in Kentucky this may be the only time you’ll ever hear these guys names. They’re so bad that even the girls’ team makes fun of them.
Hell Mr. Basketball Nathan Dieudonne was a scrub 2 years ago. He got the pleasure to lean on me and wear me out for an entire game, but didn’t know what to do with the ball when he got it. I never thought he would amount to anything other than “that big goon from Trinity” (you’d think that Catholic School ballers would stick together, but nothing is worse than losing to another one). Props to Nathan (I don’t want to spell his last name anymore) for stepping up and helping his team win their 1st state, but I never in a million gazillion years thought he’d be the state’s best baller.
However I will be paying much more attention to the girls game because the Roushes will be in full force. My sisters are apart of a team that will actually have a chance to win. The girls team is highlighted by Miss Basketball Sydney Moss, daughter of Randy Moss and a Florida commit. She has one of the most versatile styles of play I’ve ever seen, with the ability to take the ball up the court, knock down threes, and postup and rebound like the biggest person on the court. She’s the type of player that makes watching women’s basketball enjoyable.
Kentucky’s girls also have one thing that I’m sure Indiana doesn’t: solid team chemistry. They are coached by Sweet 16 Champion Manual’s Stacy Pendleton, and feature 4 different girls from that team. Those that didn’t play together in high school, have all played with or against each other at some point and are close with one another. “We don’t care who gets it done on the team, as long as Kentucky gets the job done.” They will need a good team effort in order to take down a bigger Indiana team. They can get the job done, and are our best chances of having a victory this weekend.

4 girls and the head coach all from Manual? I’ll assume they won the state title.

Pretty incredible that Lexington couldn’t produce one boy or girl for either team.

Evansville is a D-1 school, in the Missouri Valley Conference. Southern Indiana (located in the same city) is D-II though.

Amazing the irrelevance this game has taken on. Mostly thanks to Kentucky. This is state has basically stopped producing basketball talent.

I would think Kentucky needs to change their process of how they select an All-Star team. I find it hard to believe 6 girls are from 2 schools. Maybe I’m wrong because I will be the first to admit I have never seen any of these girls play, but would guess that there might be a player or two somewhere in the state that is better. Maybe I’m wrong?

As usual, north central bias, and western part of the state gets left out. My sis made the 1986 team out of Trigg County. You would’ve thought they allowed a Missourian on the team. State’s main newspapers partially to blame. Very little coverage of WKY high school sports. BTW, the boys team that year was sick, with Rex, Reggie Hansen, etc.

6) I think a lot of that could change with the addition of McCracken County High School. That school will be massive. Either way it is disappointing and somewhat bizarre that THE BASKETBALL STATE can’t produce more talent.

WOW I’m speechless. That is completely out of line for you to bash our state’s high school all star team like that. And even MORE out of line for you to bash Nathan Dieudonne. These kids and there parents are all extremely proud to be representing their state, and here you are on the state’s most popular basketball site bashing them. It’s one thing to be critical of young men on a college basketball team, it’s another to criticize and make fun of a group of young high school kids that are proudly supporting our state.
Shame on you, douchebag.

“They’re so bad that even the girls’ team makes fun of them.”
Are you kidding me???

God the state of Kentucky really sucks at boys basketball….
June 8th, 2012 at 10:46 pm
Get used to Indiana beating up on Kentucky…oh wait. Ha ha. Really, though, get used to it. And you can hate, and youve had a great run, but now its our turn. Those great Indiana players dont escape the state like they used to. They come to IU. Trey Lyles is a top 10 national player for 2015 who signed his freshman year. Wont be the last. Lots to look forward to, shame we wont be able to show you how far weve come firsthand…

#11 no one reading this article cares about your 2015 recruit. You’ve been relevant for one year…congrats

Wow. This guy managed to be a douche and an asshole all in one post. Calling a Mr. Basketball recipient a scrub because you played against him two years ago, when he was two years younger than you. Where are you currently ball Rick? How many Mr. Basketball’s did you win. Oh I’m sorry, the glory days are over. Ass.
June 9th, 2012 at 12:08 am
100% agree with 13 and others. Rick, way to be a complete ass and not even being funny while doing it. He won Mr. Basketball, while leading his team to its first state title ever. Have fun playing pickup games in whatever B league you run with now. Jerk.

I know one team that didn’t loose to Indiana and it was Mr Darius Miller’s senior year. Indiana had Tyler Zeller and so begin his losses to teams from Kentucky. I believe Zeller only beat Uk maybe once or twice in his entire career.

I would like to see Matthew Mitchell get some of these Kentucky girls. Seems the state produces a lot of talent on the women’s side.
June 9th, 2012 at 10:22 am
Adam Wing, the kid from Rowan County that is going to Evansville originally committed to Oklahoma State, so he has big time DI talent. Not sure why he eventually chose Evansville though.
June 9th, 2012 at 12:24 pm
If John Wall wrote about how he thought Siva was a scrub when he played him, but the commended him for taking his team to the Final Four; would tell him “shame on you douchebag”? You read this site for opinions, and I thought you might like an opinion from someone who would like to consider themselves one of their peers. You can call me an asshole all you want, but I Call it how I see it. MY FOOT IS CURRENTLY IN MY MOUTH because they showed out last night.
9) Anonymous group of girls all-stars- “We just hope they don’t get beat too bad”
June 9th, 2012 at 1:17 pm
Hahah a scrub that leaned on you while you lost by 20 plus. Ok.
June 9th, 2012 at 3:40 pm
Last time I checked, Marshall is D-1 school. Which is probably the highest rated school on the Ky All-Star list. Tamron Manning from Scott County is going there. They play in Conference USA – not a world beating conference by any stretch but certainly better than the American East, OVC or Missouri Valley. Should probably fact check a bit more. And the Ky boys actually showed up last night and should have probably won.
