Ok I will be the first person to admit that I am an NBA fan. Not necessarily because I love the way basketball is played in the NBA (I dont), but because I am such a huge basketball fan that I do enjoy watching the best players in the world playing at the height of their skills. Thus I often find myself defending the league to the “haters” because folks dont agree with me that it is good basketball entertainment. Having said that, everything that is bad about the NBA was on showcase tonight. The defending NBA Champs, the Miami Heat were beaten on the night that they got their rings, at home by 42 POINTS!!!! As Charles Barkley said afterwords, “I thought my bookie was crazy when he gave me Miami tonight +40, but it turns out he knew what he was doing.” Poor, poor NBA.
Also a little housekeeping. We begin our ESPN Radio show on 1570 AM in Louisville on Friday at 6-8 pm. Please call into the show (I will put the number up tomorrow), even if you are not in the area. We want to have lots of callers and help make the show interesting. Gregg Doyel will be joining us and will be taking calls and has asked that we get callers who “will come after him.” Dont let him down. Also if you are interested in competing Saturday in the Kentucky Sports Radio White Castle Challenge which will pit fans against Hubby in a White Castle eating contest, email me at Matt.Jones@kentuckysportsradio.com. The winner will recieve some prizes, including the opportunity to come on the show and gloat. So if you are interested, please let us know and get the notoriety you need. And also, go ahead and listen (if you havent) to EPISODE 12.
Beginning tomorrow night, our focus here will shift somewhat into basketball season mode. We will begin our tradition of previewing every game, providing audio clips from games and news conferences and basically giving the best UK basketball coverage that you have ever had on the internet for free. Expect audio like you havent heard it and continued insight into the season. We are going to attempt to cover UK sports like no one else has….in an interesting and fan-centric way…..giving people what they WANT (entertainment) rather than what newspapers THINK THEY WANT (like controversy). We welcome all suggestions and have lots of great stuff planned. The recruiting news wont go away, but as you have seen from the last few weeks, the news will be heavy next week and then will really go away for a while. When that happens, this site goes into UK basketball mode.
But until then, a couple of tidbits….
TIDBIT 1: William Buford the young star from Toledo, Ohio announced his commitment this morning to THE Ohio State University. For those of you that dont know Buford, he is a member of the 2008 class that Tubby and the staff were high enough on to have come in for Midnight Madness in order to try and gain access to a player that had always wanted to make an early decision. Buford is a great player and his loss, coupled with that of Bud Mackey and Scotty Hopson, makes the staff’s goal of securing at least one early commitment (from what will likely only be a class of 2 or 3 players) for 08 more difficult. The goal now is to get Darius Miller and the staff hopes to make that happen soon.
TIDBIT 2: If you havent read the Intern’s post below, we have multiple reports of a John Lucas sighting on the UK campus today with Coach Smith. All I can say about this is that I have NO personal knowledge of this, but I do know one of the two sources and think he is likely reliable. I am of course hestitant to say anything more than this and I urge all to take it with a HEAVY grain of salt. Having said that, if true, this would obviously be positive. The Lucas saga will be over soon either way, and as I said yesterday, John Lucas is likely the major mover and shaker of this class.
TIDBIT 3: This is a very interesting few days coming up in the saga of Marshall Moses. For those of you that havent heard yet, Moses dropped FIFTY POINTS in his first high school game of the year, playing on a team that includes 8-9 Division I prospects. Needless to say, that is quite impressive. Moses DESPERATELY wants to visit UK this weekend. I spoke to him earlier in the week and he said to me that he literally was “praying” that he would get to visit. However by NCAA regulation, he must have a standardized test score before he can come and he expects his results in this week, thus allowing him to make the trip. For UK and Marshall’s sake all UK fans should root for the score to arrive. Moses is about to blow up this year folks…..he was a top 50 player in the 2008 class and now that he has moved to 07, he has yet to be ranked until the new rankings come out. That means he is under the radar…..and Moses is the TRUTH. If Kentucky gets this kid on campus, they may end up having him commit….and the Cats will steal one of the most exciting slashers/leapers in the class without any real competition. But if Moses keeps dropping 50 a game, then other schools will begin stepping up their attention. From a UK fan’s perspective, this needs to get done soon…..which means Marshall needs to take his visit…..which means this test score needs to come in the next few days.
That is it for tonight. I have heard no definitive source, but my assumption is that the James Anderson visit to UK this weekend will not take place. I have not spoken with any in the Anderson camp today, but as of now no one says it is on, and I was told the decision would be made today. Maybe contrary news will trickle in tomorrow, but I dont expect it. Anderson is a super talent, but if the Cats get Moses, losing him is not the end of the world. However watch and see where James commits. If it is Kansas, then Jai isnt going to end up at Oklahoma St. If it is Oklahoma St, then I think the Cowboys are a better possibility for Jai…..although I STILL think that as of today, UK is the leader.
Until next time…..

agree with you Matt, I despise the NBA and find myself watching less and less of it.
October 31st, 2006 at 11:49 pm
does this ESPN Louisville have a website/live streaming or am I going to have to cold call. This may be my only opportunity to talk with you before the SEC Tourney.
I’ve still not reserved the hotel, but I plan on getting on top of that this weekend.
October 31st, 2006 at 11:53 pm
I really hope we land Moses, but if we do I don’t see us having the enough of scholarships to land Harris (especially if we want to land Miller in 08). Moses seems like he could really help UK. In addition, he seems like he has quite a good-charcarter player, which is always good to have. I wish I could be up here (Louisville) on Friday to listen to the show, but I’m going to my hometwon. However, I’m still going to try to call the show if it’s feasible. Perhaps, some other time. I know Gregg Doyel ALWAYS give us listners something to talk about (good or bad). Anyways, that you for the update.
October 31st, 2006 at 11:55 pm
I have always wanted Marshell Moses and still want him to come to UK. Forget Anderson and get Moses. If Harris is a 6′5 athlete (which is the same as Anderson), i say get Moses and forget about Anderson. I am perfectly fine with a class of Patterson, Lucas, Stewart, Moses, Williams, and Harris (06 or 07).
November 1st, 2006 at 12:16 am
Someone has got to help me out on this Moses thing. I have been screaming from the rooftops that he is a stud (after seeing him play last spring). Has anyone else seen him play? Matt have you? If yes what is your opinion? I saw him play with a buddy and we left the gym say “wow this guy will be an NBA player” (sorry Matt I used quotes but am quoting myself). Then I find out that nobody has him rated that highly and very few schools are showing him any big time love.
Again this is my feeling on him. Solid jumper but not a pure shooter. Way above average athletic ability. Most importantly a very big frame that can hadle more wieght (he already about 6′7″ and 225 lbs. I think he could start for Uk by his sophmore year at both forward positions.
So again one of two things are going on. Either a big time college program needs to hire me because I am a basketball scouting god or….this kid has flown under the radar because of his classification and moving around and UK could pull off a Major steal if we can sign him this fall. I am betting on the second the second thing to be more likely.
November 1st, 2006 at 12:29 am
Love both the NBA and College Basketball. Maybe it helps having an NBA team
in your City. Graduated college at UK after the fall semester back in 1984.
Came back to Chicago and signed up for the Bulls 16 game package which was
the last 16 games of the season.
Jordan scored 61 points in the playoffs against Boston and I signed up
for season tickits with the Bulls throughout the 6 championships and
now I’m hooked on both NBA and as you can see from me posting on
this board I still need my Kentucky Wildcat B-Ball fix.
November 1st, 2006 at 12:31 am
If we are wanting a early commitment in 08 then we should show Nasir
Robinson some love. He is a top 50 talent and LOVES UK. From what i have
read he is waiting on OTS and the staff.
November 1st, 2006 at 12:41 am
Matt, how soon will you be able to find out for sure if Mr. Lucas was on campus?
November 1st, 2006 at 12:55 am
Lenny might call in.But I want a bowl of blue M & M’s and a Minnesota Viking’s helmet full of cottage cheese. Also I would like for you to have Stuart Scott kilt.Do you have that kind of pull Matt? Cause if you do you can count on hearing from Lenny on Friday barring any unforeseen arrests, subpoena,or Bob Corker trying to kill me.That son of a bitch is after me I tell ya.
THIS COMMUNIQUE HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO YOU BY K.R.Y.P.T.O.N.I.T.E.

you guys should get perry “percy” stevenson to come for the white castle challenge… he might win some money as well as gain some weight!!
cheers,
November 1st, 2006 at 2:37 am
Each participant of this contest should receive a large supply of Gas-X, just so their ladies will let them in the house. That white castle is going to smell like one huge fart by the time this contest is over. Good luck fellas.
November 1st, 2006 at 7:01 am
#5 academics has been the issue for Moses. The Patterson School will help with that but he needs a good test score.
November 1st, 2006 at 7:48 am
Matt,
Marshall appears to be an amazing kid. His love for God is
very noticable. He is the type of kid I want to wear the blue
and white.
Good Luck Marshall.
November 1st, 2006 at 8:01 am
Wow, I read last night about the possible John Lucas sighting and then I just dreamed that Patterson and Lucas committed. I can’t wait for the recruiting to be over and hopefully both of them to be with us, along with Moses.
November 1st, 2006 at 8:11 am
Gotta love a kid who loves UK. We need Moses. Go Cats!
November 1st, 2006 at 8:44 am
Matt….if Moses is the TRUTH, then why doesn’t UK offer him…..and take a commitment…..and take its chances on Moses getting eligible by next August…..Something is missing here in my mind……kid wants to come to Kentucky….Kid is the TRUTH……what are we waiting for????????
November 1st, 2006 at 8:53 am
Hey Matt….Is there any web sit that I can listen to your ESPN show?
November 1st, 2006 at 8:54 am
I am guessing we already have an offer to him pending his test
scores. You may not be able to offer until they are eligible. There
is a lot of crazy rules.
November 1st, 2006 at 9:05 am
I too, get the feeling that Moses is about to blow up. I really hope things work out with his academics because UK needs to close the deal soon.
November 1st, 2006 at 9:24 am
Moses is on the high school team, not the prep team at Patterson, right? Becuase I belive the prep team is the team loaded with D1 talent. Moses did not play in the game vs Oak Hill so I assume that he is on the other team.
November 1st, 2006 at 9:49 am
Matt, how do you think that the potential commitment of Ramon Harris
and Marshall Moses affect the decision of Darius Miller for 08 being
that they are all around the same size, or can some of these guys play
more than just on the wing?
November 1st, 2006 at 10:21 am
Moses’ test score will be available to him online tomorrow, the 2nd prior to his visit on the 4th.
November 1st, 2006 at 10:21 am
21.
I’m not Matt but from what I’ve heard, Moses is more of a 3/4, Harris is a true 3, and Miller is a 2/3.
The only one I’ve seen any video of is Moses, and I can say I’d rather see him at the 3 than the 4.
November 1st, 2006 at 10:25 am
#16 he HAS been offered. For 2007 or 2008.
November 1st, 2006 at 10:26 am
#20 that sounds right. Moses is still 4th year HS player. The prep team is 5th year guys.
November 1st, 2006 at 10:32 am
20. He is not listed on the prep team, but the prep team has only a few postgrad players, most are high school seniors and one is a junior. So if they are all 5th year guys (but seniors) they must need to repeat to graduate from high school? http://www.pattersonschool.org/athletics/prepbasketball/preproster.htm
November 1st, 2006 at 11:00 am
I have become a pretty solid Detroit fan since Prince blew up. Hadn’t really paid attention to the NBA since Bird/Magic prior to that.
Kentucky needs to make more headway into creating public relationships with their NBA alumni as I think that is a strong selling point to recruits and I think we kind of squander that to some extent. Create more attractive events that will lure more of them back home for photo ops. A hallway with the NBA jersey of every UK NBA player leading up to Tubby’s office and things that not only spotlight our fabulous history, but also makes us look current. My guess would be most high school players underestimate how many guys we have in the league.

I’ve gotten to where I like the NBA much more than college basketball. You guys should have stayed up to watch the Lakers-Suns game. LA looked awesome after they gave up about 30 points in the first 6 minutes of the game.
November 1st, 2006 at 11:54 am
#16 I have also offered myself to Tubby, in a unique and special way.
Did you know that in one game that Saul played in and won, he had a 1000% winning percentage????
Incredible how people put him down. Also, when he went 1 for 1 from the field he was shooting 1000% at that point in time!!!!
Plus Kentucky beat out SE Missouri State and a number of prep schools for his service!!!!! Now that is big time recruiting. I likes me some Tubby!!!!
November 1st, 2006 at 12:03 pm
Casey that is correct online SAT scores are available tomorrow the 2nd. My daughter has a full academic riding riding on hers coming up one notch. I hope her and Marshall both make what they need. I would be real happy.
November 1st, 2006 at 12:09 pm
Unless he gets his academics resolved in the next couple of weeks he CANNOT sign early.
If he has to wait until spring and really does blow up, look for UNC to make a very hard push for him.
November 1st, 2006 at 12:12 pm
moses will help part the
ncaa waters on the way to the
final 4!!!!
come on that is funny!
November 1st, 2006 at 12:24 pm
Marshall didn’t take the SAT though, but rather the ACT. Hopefully they release those scores on the same date?!??!?
November 1st, 2006 at 12:25 pm
Moses apparently has been a lifelong UK fan…and not very interested in UNC…so I dont see them as a player in this even in the spring. I think Moses is ours as long as his scores come in.
November 1st, 2006 at 12:38 pm
Michael Jordan is basically UNC’s equipment manager. I linked this story at DD yesterday… after you read it then you won’t have a problem understanding why Wright committed on the spot and how UNC landed that awesome class:
“You always get a little publicity, exposure, especially when you’re in the tournament,” said senior David Noel, who was not able to afford his first pair of Jordans until he was a junior in high school. “People are like, ‘Aw, man, they’ve got on those Jordans.’ That probably helps (Nike) out a lot.”
How much? Nike, which had revenues topping $13.7 billion in 2005, including $300 million from Air Jordan sales, won’t say. But, “the hope for us is that the visibility of the program translates to basketball fans, people that love to play,” said Nike spokesman Rodney Knox.
And, of course, people who love to buy shoes to play in.
Jordan sends about 50-60 pairs in each style and they tend to wear out fast.
Noel had torn through seven pairs of sneakers two weeks ago, while point guard Bobby Frasor said he’d worn out at least a dozen.
“I’m awful on shoes,” said Frasor. “… At least they’re able to replace them.”

“As a member of one of six programs chosen by Michael Jordan to wear the Jumpman logo, Ginyard’s size 14 footwear is only a tiny part of a multimillion-dollar relationship.”
Does anyone know if UK was one of those six programs?
November 1st, 2006 at 12:45 pm
Good luck with Darius Miller and Marshall Moses Tubby! We love you!

November 1st, 2006 at 1:13 pm
#16 Tim.
He does have an offer.
He cant visit and confirm anything until test score.
—
And although he PLAYED in Kernersville, NC last year, he is originally from Aiken, SC and has been a UK fan for much of his life.
UNC wont be a player… he doesnt “like them”.
November 1st, 2006 at 1:44 pm
According to Jon Scott’s website, UK has never had a player from the state of South Carolina. This would be a good one to add.
November 1st, 2006 at 2:43 pm
I think Lucas’s dad on UK’s campus if true is a very good sign for the ‘Cats. What actually happens from there is another story. Moses would be a great addition. Always good to recruit a high school athlete that has been a fan of the school whether they are in-state or out of state. Anderson is where I am the most confused. Does he really want to come to Kentucky? Also how many spots are available for players in the ‘07 class assuming that none of the juniors leave early?
November 1st, 2006 at 3:02 pm
No Anderson does not want to come to Kentucky.
You might as well get that idea out of your heads right now.
November 1st, 2006 at 3:07 pm
Someone on the Swaim site says Tubby was in Houston on Tuesday watching Lucas - which sounds like follow up after the kid went to Maryland. Sounds kind of inconsistant with daddy being in Lexington the day before but who knows.
November 1st, 2006 at 3:25 pm
John Lucas was NOT in Lexington yesterday or today. So you can put this topic to bed!
November 1st, 2006 at 3:26 pm

November 1st, 2006 at 3:36 pm
Yeah 48.
We have a credible source with links and everything saying he WAS here, so if you don’t you can just get that agenda stuff out of here right now!!!

Having a Terrapin as a mascot is 2nd worst behind the UT VOLUNTEERS. The fighting turtles sounds better than the TERPS. And what in the hell does a hound dog have to do with a VOLUNTEER? Well, we volunteer to kick both Smokey and that turtle’s ass. Wait a minute, what does CRIMSON TIDE have to do with an elephant? This idiot TERP fan on post 48 must be right.
November 1st, 2006 at 4:03 pm
Why don’t ya’ll grow up. Ya’ll get to saying some of the stupidest things. Stay basketball relate
Does anybody else think that we should be recruiting Nasir Robinson harder. I really like the 06 class.
I think the reason that they are going to be successful here is because they want to play for
UK. So keeping that in mind, here is a kid that is begging that UK get involved. He has UK as the
only school listed HIGH on his Rivals profile.
NASIR! NASIR! NASIR!
November 1st, 2006 at 4:26 pm
#51 - One of our mods. spoke to John today. He confirmed he was not in Lex. yesterday and that Jai has not made any decisions yet. Can’t link because it’s a premium board. You don’t have to believe it but it’s the truth.
November 1st, 2006 at 4:29 pm
It came from John Lucas’ mouth that’s how I know. Man, you guys need to relax a bit.
Jai is going to announce next week, we can all look forward to that date.
November 1st, 2006 at 5:53 pm
So, what was Sherman Hemsley doing in Lexington?

Here’s a John Lucas sighting: I saw him just yesterday. I was using expensive, high-powered surveillance equipment with night-vision goggles and telescopic lenses. He was in his house, eating dinner. I was several blocks away in a high-rise apartment building with my special lenses trained through the window of the Lucas dining room. I could tell by the way John was chewing that he was thinking about Tubby.

November 1st, 2006 at 8:06 pm
If you don’t DO YOUR JOB Matt, I am going to quit posting on here altogether!!
November 1st, 2006 at 8:09 pm
Looks like John Lucas will be moving and shaking all the way over to Maryland. Jai will commit there by the end of next week.
November 1st, 2006 at 8:14 pm
#62 and #63 are imposters.
November 1st, 2006 at 8:15 pm
The imposter is the dickhead formerly known as Kentucky Blue 33 on Rivals, now Lexington Blue 99 there.
He got booted from another Rivals board this week and he’s being an asshole.
November 1st, 2006 at 8:25 pm
Well Tom, at least we know they’re imposters, they would stir up even
