John Wilmhoff and David Mulloy will be coming to you live from Gary, Indiana with updates from the 4:00 p.m. baseball game today. Feel free to join in on the conversation/discussion in the comment section. Go Cats.
CATS WIN, CATS WIN!!!
Final Score: 6-3 UK
John will have a short game summary up soon. Join us again at 8pm for UK’s matchup against Kent State where we will do it all again.
Bot 9: Alex Phillips stays in to close it out and fans his first batter for out number one and his second for out number two. A pop out to Matt Reida ends the game.
Top 9: McCarthy leads off with a single and takes second on a fielding error and advances to third on a flyout by Luke Maile. SAC FLY BY WILLIAMS SCORES McCARTHY!!! Flynn lines out to end the inning.
Bot 8: Purdue’s 9th hitter hits a leadoff single up the middle and after a ground out, two straight hits scores a runner. Henderson went to his bullpen for Alex Phillips who induces an infield fly and a ground out to end the threat.
Top 8: Riddle leads off the inning with a bunt single to the right side, no one was covering the bag for the second time today. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt but a fly out and a ground out end the inning.
Bot 7: A one out single is erased on a 4-6-3 double play. UK’s defense is doing everything it can to help Littrell.
Top 7: The Cats go 1-2-3 (3U, 4-3, K (called)). Time to stretch
Bot 6: Littrell, who entered the inning with 84 pitches, uses just five in another 1-2-3 inning.
Top 6: Austin Cousino hits a two out drag bunt single, steals second, and scores on an RBI single by McCarthy.
Bot 5: Purdue leads off the inning with their first hit since the opening frame but Littrell gets the next three K (called), K, 4-3.
Top 5: The Cats ledoff the inning with back to back singles by McCarthy and Maile and another great sac bunt by Williams moved the runners into scoring position. After a ground out to the shortstop, Zellers walked on four straight pitches to load the bases with two outs but J.T. Riddle grounded out to end the inning.
Bot 4: Another 1-2-3 inning (K, F-9, K) for Littrell who is cruising with a two run cushion.
Top 4: UK takes advantage of a leadoff error in center to score four runs and take a 4-2 lead. A two RBI single by Cameron Flynn scored McCarthy and Maile. The Cats took the lead on a Zac Zellers double to center to score Flynn, who was moving on the play. Matt Reida added another RBI single to bring home Zellers to cap a four run inning.
Bot 3: Littrell gets a 1-2-3 inning behind a life preserving catch and a diving stop by J.T. Riddle at second.
Top 3: Another 1-2-3 inning for the Cat’s offense (3U, 4-3, F-7).
Bot 2: Littrell gets the first two batters of the inning, issues a two out walk to the hitter in the ninth spot, but lets the leadoff man to line out to Reida at short.
Top 2: Cats get their first base runner of the day with a two out single by Zac Zellers but J.T. Riddle popped up to end the inning.
Bot 1: Boilermakers take a 1-0 lead after a triple into the right-centerfield gap scores a runner from first. Next batter delivered a single to center to make it 2-0. Both balls were just inches from being caught by Austin Cousino.
Top 1: Cats go in order as Cousino and McCarthy strikeout swinging and Malie flies out to center.
Pregame Notes: Kentucky will be the visiting team. Junior Luke Maile will play first base today and hit third. The Wildcats will send Sunday starter Corey Littrell (8-2, 2.66 ERA) to the mound and hope that not only he can buy the Cats another game, but pitch deep into the contest to save a thin bullpen. The Boilermakers will throw junior right-hander Robert Ramer who has some very impressive credentials. Ramer is 6-0 in nine starts on the season with a 2.68 ERA. What’s really impressive is that out of 47 innings of work he has fanned 28 batters but has only issued two walks but has three HBP.
