Saturday Night Notes from Gary

by @ 10:52 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

The wifi here isn't the highest quality, so I'll try to wrap up the day quickly.

While on the road with the UK baseball team, we wanted to get the full Gary experience, so here are your Saturday Night Notes coming to you live from the Budget Motel. Other than the baseball team defeating Valparaiso to keep their season alive this afternoon, it was a slow news day in UK land.

– As Ally Tucker mentioned earlier, 2015 UK target Karl Towns is in Lexington to train with Coach Cal’s Dominican Republic National Team. Towns tweeted out that he was about to go through “a Kentucky Wildcat day” in his first day of training camp with Coach Cal. Towns, a power forward, has already been recruited by a dozen D-1 schools including Kentucky, Louisville, Florida, Michigan State, West Virginia, Baylor, and Cincinnati. It will be interesting to see what kind of role a high school kid like Towns will have on a team with several NBA players on its roster, and if he decides to be a Wildcat, he’ll know what to expect from Coach Cal after his experiences with the Dominican team.

– We also learned today that Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is now the most recent former Wildcat to spoil his Mother with a brand new car, following the lead of Terrence Jones. Scroll down to Rashawn’s 8:15 post to see the brand new Mercedes Benz SUV for yourself. You did well, MKG.

– Kent State just wrapped up a 7-3 victory over Purdue here at the Gary Regional, which means the Bat Cats will face the top seeded Boilermakers at 4:00 tomorrow at U.S. Steel Yard and the game will be televised on the Big 10 Network. The two top seeded teams now each have a loss, #3 seed Kent State is unbeaten, and #4 seed Valparaiso is now eliminated after their loss to Kentucky. If the Cats knock off Purdue at 4, they will face Kent State again that evening at 8:00. If the Cats win both potential games tomorrow, it will set up another game with the Golden Flashes on Monday night at 8 which will determine a trip to the NCAA Super Regionals.

–If you can’t get access to the Big 10 Network, remember that you can tune in to Neil Price on the radio at 1080-AM in Louisville or 630-WLAP in Lexington, or online via Iheartradio.com.

–In NBA news, Oklahoma City appears to be on the verge of claiming a Game 4 win over the Spurs. Rondo and the Celtics will try to even up their series with the Heat tomorrow night at 8:30 in Boston.

–That’s all for tonight. David and I will be back tomorrow afternoon for more UK baseball coverage in Gary, provided that we survive the night.

  3. John Rambo Says:

    Suck it, #2!

  4. Truth Says:

#2 give him a break he has to stay in indiana for awhile, it’s rough stuff.

  5. Manbearpig Says:

Well not only do I get to see UK (hopefully) beat my alma mater tomorrow, but get to watch it on TV!! I call that a win-win

  6. Manbearpig Says:

    Wait…never mind…I’m still living in Indiana…fml

  7. Dr. Funke Says:

Great job covering the game today guys!

  8. Mr. Jagerbomb Says:

Does the NCAA not want anybody to watch these games or do I have the wrong cable package?

  9. Aaron C Bunch Says:

C’mon guys. This article mentions MKG. It’s appreciated. He DOMINATED all opponents especially UofL. I love him.

  10. Chi-TownCat Says:

I will be at the game with my two sons tommorrow are you guys sitting in the press box or in the stands

  11. Matthew Hays Says:

John, seriously, please check your facts. We all know Karl Towns is a 2012 recruit. Ally made the same mistake earlier today. We are going to lose our credibility as a news site if we keep up this sloppy fact checking. Please check CBSsports headlines in the future.

  12. This Just In... Says:

Mathew Hays, respected recruiting analyst from KSR, is reporting that Towns is considering reclassifying to 2011. (Currently in the 2012 class)
Mathew reports that this could spell trouble for the blue and white, as 2011 isn’t here anymore making this news almost as ridiculous as when he posted about 2013/2012 recruit Chris Walker last night.

  13. VinDatUK Says:

Tom Crean is still pushing for a home and home…I think the Bat Cats being in Gary holds up our end of the bargain. IU won’t even go to Gary.

  14. Let'sFaceIt Says:

KSR has really gone down hill…

  15. curiositykilledthecat Says:

Is that a motel you pay by the hour?
