Jacob Hyde has another year of high school left to finish before he heads off to college. But Kyle Scott of LEX 18 caught up with the first UK commit for the 2013 class and things look promising. Hyde is rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals and is listed at 6-2, 313 pounds as a defensive tackle out of Clay County.
The lineman sounds like a hard worker too – certainly a necessary trait to succeed in the SEC. He describes how his athletic ability came from almost nothing, to being able to bench press well over 400 pounds. His high school coach says he is the strongest kid he’s ever met, and said Hyde tried to squad 680 pounds as a junior and permanently bent the bar.
Hyde has fans all across the state, including everyone in his hometown of Manchester. Take a look at the video below from Cats Illustrated. He seems like a good ol’ country boy. And with an attitude like he displays here, has a whole lot of upside.

Will never see the field. Doesn’t have SEC talent.

Who cares? This team will continue to suck long before he ever makes it to campus.

Do defensive linemen score touchdowns?
May 26th, 2012 at 9:30 pm
4. Except, football in other countries is called soccer. When the team realized this, they realized the joke was on them. How do you play against other countries, when other countries don’t have teams?

The kid either sucks or is a born loser if he wants to play for the anal cavity of college football.
May 26th, 2012 at 10:13 pm
Seems like a nice guy. Hope he does well down the road except when he plays us.

Hyde has all of the talent in the world. He’s an amazing lineman and a great person. He is going to show everyone what it is all about. Go Big Blue!

Yay…another 3-star. Let me know when we get someone who actually matters. So sick of seeing the same mediocre talent coming into UK. C’mon Man!

Hey guys, I have watched this kid play. If u think he would’nt see the field, then u r crazy. This kid has also drawn looks from tennessee, ole miss and miss state. And never stepped foot on the field as a senior. I am afraid that a stronger sec school could change his mind, because he is just gonna get bigger and stronger. 6-3 320lb and benching now 425, and being a freak in the gym will be amazing how big and strong he will be in 8 months! His foot work is great. EVen after all the weight lifting, and school he still works at little caesers. Lets get behind a kid like this that is working with everything in him to be a sucess, than being so negative. That not what the BBN represents!

Hyde will be legendary in the blue and white… write that down. The negativity around this team and UK football in general is comical. The sense of entitlement is the problem here, no one is responsible for your enjoyment of life but you quit relying on young kids to be vehicles of your happiness. I love UK football because of what it means to me not because of the win/loss column. There is a stadium full of folks just like me also so go ahead and turn your back on this team and Joker… I promise you that they do not need you there whatsoever.

Hyde looks like a great kid. Just the kinda of person we need….a hard working local kid who loves the Cats. And I bet he turns into a great lineman. Thank you #14, and #16.
All you haters please go follow the Cards! Go Big Blue!

We need high character,
quality, loyall players like this kid. Go Big Blue! Win, lose or draw I’m a UK fan until the day I die!

I wish UK basketball fans would keep their mouths shut if they can’t be positive about anything UK football related. Hyde has the potential to be special and if he was going to another school than people would blame the staff for letting him get away. Its one thing to hate MB, Joker, and UK football, but please don’t trash every guy who commits to UK and insult their inteligence.
May 27th, 2012 at 1:43 pm
Uhhh, UK basketball fans don’t really say anything positive period. Always focused on the negative.

I have stood next to this guy and he appears to be much bigger than listed in the artical. I am 6′-6’1″ and he is almost a head taller than me. I hope he does well since he is a in-state talent.

that dude is THICK, and huge. That’s always a plus.
