The last viable recruit of the 2012 class for Kentucky announced his list today. Montrezl Harrell told 247Sports.com he is considering Florida, UK, Louisville, NC State and Alabama as possible destinations after he was let out of his Letter of Intent by Virginia Tech. The stud Power Forward says he is early in his process and plans to talk with all of the schools on his list and will take visits as well. Kentucky is interested in adding him as part of the 2012 class, however the level of seriousness between the two parties is still to be determined. His high school coach is now on the Louisville staff, so the Cardinals (and their roster of approximately 32 players) may be the early favorite.

With a name like Montrezl, he does sound like a Card…

If he goes to U of L, then they’re going to be even more hyped next season. Even more reason to celebrate when we knock them off at Yum next season…and maybe in the NCAA Tournament AGAIN if they make it that far.
Regardless, I’d love to have him. If he doesn’t pick UK, then it looks like there’s a 75% chance we have to deal with him at some point next season. C’mon Cal!

After watching some highlight vids of him on YouTube, my assessment is that he is a poor man’s Anthony Bennett. I would think he would be a valuable addition and I hope we do get him. What’s the story behind his High School coach joining Ricky’s staff? Just recently hired? Was he hired to secure this kid for the Ville? Or just coincidence? A player usually has to be pretty darn good and pretty well coveted to warrant the hiring of his High School coach to nab him…seems like a stretch…well, it did not work out so well for Ricky with Teague, so…we will see…man…we need him for 2 reasons…because we need him…and to keep him from becoming a Dirty Bird…I tell ya tho…if you got a kid’s high school coach on your staff…and you lose out on him to another school…that is pretty pitiful…so let’s make Rick sick…again…lol

we need this kid!
May 17th, 2012 at 9:03 pm
3 SEC schools, 1 Acc, and 1 commuter college.
No brainer, kid.
Come to the ‘veal, where our coaches are lovin’ it because I permit them to have it their way (its all finger lickin’ good whether at Papa’s John or the Bucket).
We’ll repname the town in your honor: Louie-Vezl

He just started following 3 different Pitino twitter pages today. Wonder who will be losing the next scholly or be looking to transfer from the cards.
May 17th, 2012 at 9:18 pm
With our injury rate, we need 32 (33) players.
May 17th, 2012 at 9:23 pm
at what time did Ricky 3 stacks hire the hargrave coach as an assistant? was it before or after Harrell said he was going to transfer. I know everyone does it, but I think hiring a kids HS coach or AAU coach is the biggest blatant payoff for trying to pull kids in Ive ever seen, just like 3 stacks hiring Teagues coach and he was let go after 1 year because teague didnt come
May 17th, 2012 at 9:26 pm
The assistant coach for Louisville never coached Harrell at Hargrave. He left before Harrell got there.
May 17th, 2012 at 9:31 pm
According to @NextCats on twitter.
May 17th, 2012 at 9:32 pm
Didn’t Rick deny Swopshire’s extra yr of eligibility because they wouldntve had a scholly for that Rozier guy? So how do they have a scholly for Harrell then ?
May 17th, 2012 at 9:39 pm
#11 – They’ll probably take someone else’s scholly away.
May 17th, 2012 at 9:42 pm
He looks terrifying. Don’t know if his on-court personality can be the enforcer-type, but he’s got the build and–at least in this photo–the scowl.

#1 = Racist POS
May 17th, 2012 at 10:01 pm
The young man would be crazy to go to UL, pitino’s tendency to confound, restrict, and ruin players aside, rp would have to screw another player to make room; not ro mention he’d probably sit behind stephen van stink.
May 17th, 2012 at 10:15 pm
Yes, he would be good to get…yes, he would help…etc.
But I really don’t get the perception by many that this is a must get. He’s not a 5 star, Cal doesn’t play that many players anyway, and i have to wonder where this must get hype comes from and why.
May 17th, 2012 at 10:22 pm
My gut feeling says we get this kid in blue
May 17th, 2012 at 10:25 pm
16. because most UK fans are visual enough to see Kyle Wiltjer is NOT going to be able to handle the 4 spot, and Cauley is a project. Everyone saw Kyle last year, there’s no way he can post-up, defend or rebound against virtually any PF in the SEC, much less guys like Behannan or the guys Georgetown, or possibly Cincinatti wil throw against him. Kyle will be a great “change of pace” guy and will contribute with his ability to score, but to think he can play PF fulltime is fools gold
May 17th, 2012 at 10:30 pm
18) Yes, everyone is concerned over that. But — Cal knows his team, he will coach “the current team” a certain way, and not to be cliche…but I trust him and the staff to get the players we need and develop them more so than worrying about a non-5 star player that hasn’t signed yet because he is quote the last one available.

Test
May 17th, 2012 at 10:37 pm
19) well said.
May 17th, 2012 at 10:40 pm
#18 – I agree. Kyle is great on offense, but on defense he is going to need a lot of work. That’s where Montrezl comes in. He may not score as much as Kyle would, but we don’t need him to. We need him to rebound, be physical, and play defense, things kyle isn’t very good at. Put there two games together and you get one awesome power forward.
May 17th, 2012 at 10:40 pm
19, agreed. Cal knows what to do in any situation. Many need to be reminded in 2010, some in here were thinking that team wouldn’t make it to the second weekend of the tourney or even rd 2 because we just didn’t have the players as we had in 2009. This kid is not a must get. It will be what it will be and Cal will be doing fine by february.
May 17th, 2012 at 10:45 pm
I’m not saying he is a ‘must get’, but I’m sure everyone can agree they wouldn’t mind a big bodied man to back up Kyle if his defense is sluggish. Plus, I would LOVE to see one of his monsterous dunks being thrown down over Behanan in the YUM.
May 17th, 2012 at 10:56 pm
yeah, CATS is right … everybody has been talking about kevin keatts leaving hargrave to go to loserville, but that guy never coached harrell … hell, he left right before harrell got there, he probably thought he was gonna be the coach … you can’t fault a guy for making the step up to a college program like that, but i wouldn’t think that really helps ul
aw hamilton coached harrell and he’s from gtown, played at scott co
May 17th, 2012 at 10:57 pm
He is going to uofl.
May 17th, 2012 at 10:59 pm
25) keats coached him for three years. Hamilton coached him one year.
May 17th, 2012 at 11:28 pm
#27 – Harrell hasn’t played at Hargrave for 4 years. Only his senior year.
May 18th, 2012 at 7:55 am
Lil bro will run off another player to make room for him then run him off in a couple of years when they find someone better. He will be the #4 PF on their team next year once they get all their injured troops back. Would love to have his beef at UK but he looks like a Bama kid to me.
May 18th, 2012 at 8:13 am
guy’s a beast: ala matt pilgrim
May 18th, 2012 at 8:14 am
Doesn’t he play the same position as the great Chane Bohannon?
May 18th, 2012 at 9:21 am
lets put this to rest: Harell played at North Edgecombe in his hometown of Tarboro NC up until his senior year when he played at Hargrave in VA….27 you are wrong, keats DID NOT coach Harell at ALL during his first 3 years unless you believe Keats was at North Edgecombe during that time. He wasn’t he was at Hargrave
May 18th, 2012 at 11:44 am
#3, I am pretty sure the NCAA amended their rules to prohibit schools from hiring HS coaches or assistant coaches of players that they are recruiting in an effort to secure that recruitment. That being said, it sounds like he may not have actually coached Harrell, so it may not be a violation of this rule. But wouldn’t it be sweet if it was and it drew the ire of the NCAA down on RP…
May 18th, 2012 at 5:51 pm
#33 You’re a dumbass.
