Jabari Parker on the cover of Sports Illustrated

by @ 10:00 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Check out this week’s Sports Illustrated cover boy: Jabari Parker, the top recruit in the 2013 class. The magazine calls Parker the “best high school player since LeBron James.” Good thing he’s been high on Cal’s list for a while now…

  1. Im not a mormon but Says:

Don’t mormons usually go to utah or byu?

  2. rodger Says:

I’ll be shocked if we get him… he might be high on Cal’s list, but Im not sure the love is mutual

  3. Steve The Beav Says:

Baseball Cats take a lose from the worst team in the OVC… Nice.

  4. Jack Says:

    2. Says who?

  5. digital_Haggis Says:

I would never count Cal out on a recruit he is interested in. I have a good gut feeling he will be spending a year under Cal. GBB!

  6. stevie Says:

One player does not a team make. We have been to three elite 8′s; 2 final 4′s; and, an NT since Cal has come here. We have (will after this season) sent/will send 15 or so players to the NBA. In Cal’s three years we have averaged 34+ wins per years. I trust in Cal. And, it has nothing to do with whether we get Parker or not.

  7. WhatSheOrder?FishFilet? Says:

He’ll go to Kentucky or Duke

  8. Shampoo Says:

Will they re-release the magazine with Wiggins on there after the summer AAU circuit.

  9. schwing Says:

    more jesus BS?

  10. BCO Says:

Harrison Twins, Randle, Parker, and a top center and we will be golden

  11. grammerpoleez Says:

I hate when the baseball team takes a lose

  12. WhatSheOrder?FishFilet? Says:

    11) There aren’t really any elite centers in that class. That’s probably why Cal signed Cauley, who’s kind of a project.

  13. danthecat Says:

Actually Bret Bearup and Mark Pope were both LDS players who played at UK..May have been 1 or 2 more but I can’t recall…

  14. WhatSheOrder?FishFilet? Says:

    i mean 10

  15. ??? Says:

U some kinda Mormon bigot or something

    Stop the generalizations of people
    Join the 21st century
I hope we get the kid
Being lds he’s probably a good kid

  16. Yesterdays Says:

All the recruiting gurus or whatever seem to think this kid is going to Illinois or dook. I’d love to have him although I would be ok with Julius Randle. I think they are similar even though Randle is more of a 4. Next year is a long year away. You never know who will pop-up on Cal’s radar or if we can put the press on this kid. He is an animal

  17. Bob Knight Says:

    15. Hates bigots and racists. Says they guy will be a good kid bc of his religion. Come on…

  18. Gossie21 Says:

    13. Vernon Hatton was LDS not Bearup. Nate Knight was too and quite a few football players.

  19. SeoulCat Says:

Best since Lebron? Apparently whoever said that had never seen Wiggins play.

  20. danthecat Says:

#18..Bearup was LDS …he spoke at our ward while at UK…and yes several fb players were LDS….

  21. bosshogg24 Says:

#15, Cauley is not a project!

  22. ding dong daddy from cincinati Says:

    everybody meet harrison barnes 2.0

  23. bigd!ckdaddyfromcincinnati Says:

Harrison Barnes 2.0? Hahaha Isn’t it funny, UK fans would view a team full of Harrison Barnes as BAD, yet uofl fans would happily welcome a team full of Harrison Barnes. …It would also be interesting to ask true unc fans what they thought of ole Harrison.

  24. BBN Says:

With all of the talk about how Cal is in with so many of the top recruits in the 2013 class, he won’t sign Parker or Randle. In fact, I bet he loses out on nearly all of the top players. His influence on the kids is overrated. We should all be realistic and hope Cal surprises us. In Cal we trust. Go Cats!

  25. Lou eaton Says:

Cauley is going to surprise a lot of folks. He far and away better than most are thinking. He will be a monster his second year and rest assured that he “will” be getting lots of playing time this coming year.

  26. barn Says:

24–yeah, you’re probably right. i guess his recruiting effort just in the last 3 years proves out your assertion.

  27. Explain this... Says:

I love how #15 says “Stop the generalizations of people.” Then immediately follows it with “Being LDS he’s probably a good kid”

  28. MIDDAY Says:

Quit making fun of our alien cousins!

  29. Bubble guppie Says:

    kid can ball

  30. Jon Says:

I think it’s hysterical they call Duncan the least appreciated player of his generation…and give the cover to a high school kid.

  31. Will S. Says:

He’s going to Duke. Again this is a “student athlete” that actually takes pride in his academics. He will not be a part of Calipari’s puppy mill. Too much integrity for that.

  32. Will S. Says:

This kid values academics and is a true student athlete. Therefore, UK has no shot. He will go to Duke and play for the greatest of all time.

  33. Duke sucks Says:

I thought MKG was the next LeBron when he signed. Every year or 2 it’s the same stuff this one or that one is the next LeBron. Just let them be who they are. MKG is a lot different then LeBron and that worked out pretty good for us.

  34. Duke sucks Says:

#31 That is Champion puppy mill to you pal.

  35. gossie21 Says:

    20. I’m not sure if Bearup was LDS at one time a quick google search mentions that he converted in 1984. But he likely is not practicing LDS any more. I don’t know the guy personally, so I could be wrong. I have just read a few articles that state he enjoys cigars and whiskey, which are big no-nos for Mormons.

  36. theSkinny81 Says:

    33. agree. it used to be the “next Jordan.” oh well, hope we get the kid. and Duke still sucks.

  37. Will S's Hypocrisy Says:

    #32 & #33 – That’s right, because Coach K never has one-and-done’s…except for Rivers….and Irving….and Deng….and Magette.

  38. i dont know how i got here Says:

I randomly stumbled on this forum, but, Parker is graduating from Simeon, the same school Derrick Rose went to. Rose spent his mandatory 1 year of college at Memphis where Calipari was coaching. I’m guessing Rose and Parker communicate, so that may help. I’m an Illinois fan, so I’d love to see him there, but he’s gonna go to a school where he has a shot at winning the Final Four the first year, cuz he’s gonna jump ship to the NBA.
