Sunday Morning Mother’s Day Links

by @ 10:00 am. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you out there. Hope everyone has a good one. Yesterday was a slow news day. Today might give yesterday a run for its money. But let’s see what we can dig up for you this morning…

- Rajon Rondo did what Rajon Rondo does best last night in helping the Celtics hold off the 76ers in Game 1. He recorded a triple-double, which is almost becoming a casual day at the office for Rondo. The play-off triple double was the 8th of Rondo’s career. The folks over on the Sporting News had plenty of glowing words on Rondo’s performance last night.

- This men’s basketball offseason has been littered with what feels like a record number of transfers. The opinions on the transfer rules, as well as coaches blocking certain schools, 5th year senior transfers, etc. have dominated the world of college basketball news in the past month. Mark Story didn’t like Tubby Smith’s hypocrisy when it comes to the idea of transferring schools.  Story seems disheartened that even a “decent man” like Smith can’t see the double standards for student-athletes compared to coaches.

- John Clay wrote a story yesterday on Calipari having room for one more recruit. The most used phrase thrown around UK recruiting in the past few weeks has been “one missing piece.” Everyone seems to want one more player to give Calipari’s team next year a cushion with more depth. Clay brings up a list of Calipari’s recent targets, some of which have already made decisions other than Kentucky.

- We haven’t really talked about it here on KSR yet, but the men’s basketball national championship weekend will take on a new wrinkle starting next year. Next year the NCAA will hand out all 3 crowns, Division I, II and III in Atlanta during Final Four weekend. The move, according to NCAA officials, the move is being made in part to celebrate the 75th anniversary of college basketball’s annual championship event. With Kentucky’s success in various divisions as of late, wouldn’t it be cool to have multiple Kentucky teams celebrating a Final Four weekend in the same city?

- Thanks to a sweep of Alabama yesterday, the UK baseball team has put themselves in prime position to control their own destiny when it comes to the final SEC standings. Kentucky has a legitimate chance, even with a few series losses late in the season, to bring home the regular season SEC title. “We’re really happy to be in that position,” coach Gary Henderson told reporters.

- By now you’ve probably already heard about the big game by Eric Bledsoe for the Clippers a few nights ago. The Los Angeles Times are pegging Bledsoe as the potential x-factor for the Clippers in this playoff run. The Clippers square off in a game 7 match up with the Grizzlies this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. on ABC.

Rondo: I absolutely am glued to the tv when this guy is on the floor. There aren’t many players in the NBA that can make you anticipate…just what athletic play is he going to do next? Awesome.

UK Baseball: Has got their 2nd wind & a great time of the year to be winning. Go Blue!
