With Anthony Bennett off the table, the topic of not only who will we get but also who do we want becomes much more prevalent. While Bennett was certainly the gem of the remaining uncommitted players in 2012, there are a number of highly talented seniors and transfers who could step in and make an immediate impact. One of those players is Montrezl Harrell. The senior from Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia is still committed to Virginia Tech, but with the recent ousting of coach, Seth Greenberg, Harrell may be searching for a new place to call home next season. If he does pull the trigger and decommit, look for his to be a name near the top of Kentucky’s wish list. He’s the kind of guy that could stay for a few years and becoming a real weapon for future Cats teams.
As the 82nd ranked player in the country by Rivals and the 20th ranked power forward, Harrell could look for time in the position that seemed only a short while ago to be claimed by Anthony Bennett. Only time will tell what player or possibly players will round out the 2012 recruiting class, but it seems safe to say that without Bennett, Kentucky won’t have nearly the same dominating presence that it possessed last year.

Good lord where’d this guy come from? He’s a BEAST from looking at that video. That last dunk…LOL -POSTER-
I’d be excited to him in blue for sure.
May 7th, 2012 at 8:07 pm
Stretching a bit aren’t we? Kids not even decommited and he might be next in line?
May 7th, 2012 at 8:11 pm
with coach leaving he’s able to go elsewhere…..where would you rather play va tech or KENTUCKY..# 8 WILDCATS?
May 7th, 2012 at 8:18 pm
WHY would ANYONE go anywhere but UK?!
May 7th, 2012 at 8:19 pm
Would love to have this kid at UK. however, if he hasn’t decommitted from Va Tech by now, its just a pipe dream.
*sigh*
May 7th, 2012 at 8:24 pm
this guy WAY more athletic than A. Jefferson
May 7th, 2012 at 8:25 pm
This situation hasn’t changed in weeks. So there is no indication he is changing his mind, and no indication he is remotely interested in UK.
May 7th, 2012 at 8:26 pm
If this get gets his release, he is going to uofl. Kevin keats, who is a uofl asst., coached him for three years in hs. Matt jones even said he will go to uofl if he backs out. Try to keep up.
May 7th, 2012 at 8:33 pm
8. Marquis Teague is going to UofL. I mean they hired his coach and everything.
oh wait….
try and keep up.
May 7th, 2012 at 8:33 pm
Who cares? Let’s talk about Tubby and Minnesota.
May 7th, 2012 at 8:35 pm
Matt jones even said it. I am a uk fan, just don’t understand why some of the writers are such simpletons.
May 7th, 2012 at 8:38 pm
May not happen… But I will say… That kid looks WAY better than 82nd best in class. Wow!
May 7th, 2012 at 8:45 pm
I never really liked Dicky V but the past couple of years I read more of his stuff and his work on the V foundation is unmatched by anyone on any charity. read his thoughts on the UK-Indiana series ending

It’s unlikely that he ends up at UK even if he DOES back out and IS interested in us. He is not a potential one and done player and even though they could use more players for the roster this year, multiple year players create (what Matt called) a log jam for 2013 with a monster class potentially coming in. That’s why we were interested in seniors, Wright and Lyons, because they don’t take up a scholarship for 2013.

I HAVE BREAKING NEWS COMING OUT OF NEW MEXICO OF ASST COACH GOT NEWS ABOUT TODAY PEOPLE WILL HEAR ABOUT TUESDAY
May 7th, 2012 at 8:54 pm
Va Tech promoted the assistant coach who recruited him to the head coaching position so Harrell staying at Va Tech. Matt, I think you need to get rid of these KSR college writers. Too much bs and misinformation posted wasting bandwith.
May 7th, 2012 at 9:08 pm
He looks way better than 82. I don’t care if he can’t shoot at all, dude is a physical specimen
May 7th, 2012 at 9:11 pm
We need a PF in the worst way. Jefferson isnt a PF but he would give us more depth at SF which means Poythress could play some PF. Hartzell is a bruiser of a PF. I would love to have him but as others have said here he isnt even decommitted yet from VT and even if he does I have also heard he’s ULs to lose.
May 7th, 2012 at 9:23 pm
Does anyone know if he can dunk?
May 7th, 2012 at 9:28 pm
this guy is alot better than jefferseon imo, i would rather much have harrell, hopefully he decommits an comes join the bbn
May 7th, 2012 at 9:35 pm
Dude looks/plays like MKG… just sayin… I would love to see him on the floor wearing the Blue and White…
May 7th, 2012 at 9:46 pm
RemInds me of Larry Johnson. Hope he comes.
May 7th, 2012 at 10:57 pm
I’m sorry but there is no way in hell their are 81 players in this class better than that kid. I dont know what these scout are seeing when they watch him but this kid is a beast!!
May 8th, 2012 at 12:10 am
Honestly reminds me quite a bit of Chane Behanan and a bit of Kenneth Faried. Pretty undersized (with absolutely no jumpshots on the tape, which is scary), but could be a great player to have to rough some teams up.
May 8th, 2012 at 7:19 am
The pull up jumper gets no love on highlight reels anymore. All these ballislife and hoopmixtape reels are interchangable. Show me some indication of an all around game (not just for Harrell, but all their mixes)
May 8th, 2012 at 8:48 am
His team passes the ball well and he goes hard to the rim every play. Couldn’t hurt, although guys like that usually lack any ball skills and are prone to turnovers if they’re doing anything besides rebounding or catching lobs.
May 8th, 2012 at 9:33 am
I’ve seen this tape before:
1) Love his energy, his passion. I’d like to have him just for that!
2) He’s an athlete. Can jump. Nice for oohs and aahs.
3) But can he dribble, can he play defense, can he shoot FT’s, does he have any mid or long range game?
4) Can he pass?
I am 44 years old, 6′-0″, but can shut down on D an athletic much bigger player who can’t shoot. I can’t do that NOW, and I’m talking about playing somebody who’s 18-25 years old. Just play off of him and force him to shoot from the outside.
So if this guy has no other game besides jumping and dunking, he may not be our guy. We do run a dribble drive. Can he dribble and can he drive? The verdict is out based on this video.
But I LOVE his passion.

Meant to say in 27 “I CAN do it now”.
May 8th, 2012 at 10:39 am
14. We are missing out on all the senior transfers so that strategy isn’t working.
24. I would like to see a Kenneth Faried type player in blue and white. I think the energy they bring is good for teams. Bring one in Cal!

To say that Bennett took UK and Florida off the table is not 100% correct! He would not have qualified for either school, so it is more of UK and UF stopped showing interest. His school, if you want to call it that, Findley Prep, is a farce! Look at the connections of Mr. Findley and other staff members of the basketball team. Findley is making sure their students are barely eligible, so they could get them into schools that want. In the end, UK wouldn’t take him. Just watch Findley Prep in the next year and see what comes out.
