A New Site Focusing on the NBA Cats

by @ 10:15 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

This past week, I was part of one of the more fun afternoons I have had in some time. I spoke to the Maryville Elementary School in Bullitt County as part of their Citizens’ School program for K-5th graders. The kids were great, asking wonderful questions (my favorite of which was, “Do you know the Heavy Hitter?”) and generally cheering up a gloomy Tuesday. During the experience, I met a young man who told me about his new website that focused on UK players in the NBA. The creator’s name is Adam Barron and the site serves what I think is a needed addition to the UK internet community. It focuses almost entirely on looking at the former UK players in the league and chronicling how they are playing, what stories are being written about them and what their futures hold. This is something that we do on an occasional basis, but for Barron, it is the entire basis of the site.

People are often telling me about their new websites and usually I tell them that starting a new site is hard. In today’s competitive internet world, a general blog is tough to get going and even harder to maintain, making it difficult to succeed. However a blog that is specific as to one particular thing and aims to handle it thoroughly has a real chance to find a readership. The NBACats site is one with this type of laser focus. Like KSR, it isn’t designed with anything other than the most basic setup. But the site has good content and serves a niche that is unfulfilled. On the site now are articles about Brandon Knight, Rajon Rondo, Jamaal Magloire and Demarcus Cousins, along with search terms for each UK NBA player that allows the reader to keep up with them throughout the year. I spent a good deal of time on the site yesterday and plan on making it part of my rotation as the weeks go on. It is definitely worth a visit and I give Adam a lot of credit for being smart enough to find a void in the current clogged UK blogosphere that needs to be filled and working hard to try and consume it.

Keep up the good work Adam, this KSR shout out should send some traffic your way. Good idea for a website considering in a few years the NBA will feature mostly Kentucky players xD

  2. Stalker Joe Says:

Matt, now Louisville fans know the make and color your vehicle!

  3. jpgott2 Says:

That is a solid site, Adam! It is very clean and very thorough. I like the player bios, and the links for further info. Has a great look and setup. Look forward to seeing it grow, as more Cats join the NBA.

  4. Ya heard Perd Says:

Adam you suck and your NBA site sucks too. I should come over to your house on poker night and steal hardees coupons and sweet potatoes from you.

  5. Rick Ronald Says:

Lexus huh? How much does KSRmake a year? Drew has to be working for 30k and free taco bell…

  6. DrewFranklinBetsPennies Says:

Not a single three goggle in the pic, what is wrong with these kids?! I like the kid in the front holding up how many pennies Drew bets on games.

  7. DjLanceRock Says:

I like the NBA site. I put it in my favorites.

  8. JBR Says:

I am sure that it is a really nice site, and I am happy from all of our guys being successful in the league…but man, NBA basketball is garbage. I have tried, and I am a sports guy, but it is really tough to follow the NBA at all anytime other than maybe the playoffs. The quality of play is horrid…it is basically the same game plan as any pickup game at the local YMCA…except with a much, much, much higher level of talent…and often much, much lower effort.

  9. KoolAid Says:

The only NBA Cats are the likes of Rondo and Jorts, the rest didnt mature at UK, kentucky was just a stop over for several kids that knew they were going to the league and wanted to play for a coach that had NBA contacts.

Matt Jones is a celebrity now? What kind of mega nerd does it take to man crush on Matt Chubby Cheeks Jones?

  11. KBish Says:

Serioisly, no 3 goggles in the entire pic? Is this the sped class?

  12. I miss Big Cuz Says:

Shows people learn as much from kids as they do from adults. You can never go wrong helping childern.I think we need to get back to the times of it takes a village to raise our kids. I met big cuz at a huddle house when he played here and he was verry nice to my 5 year old son. He isn’t much of a BB fan,but he is a fan of big Cuz now so for any one to say he was just passing threw and not a real cat is clueless. He did more for UK then UK did for him.

  13. KoolAid Says:

“He explained to the kids that when people criticize you it means they are scared of what you can do, pointing out that dogs don’t bark at parked cars” So, the entire nation is really scared of the Kardashians? Matt Jones, the man who thinks the sun comes up just to hear him crow.

  14. BPsycho Says:

#13 You need to quit drinking yourself all up…

  15. Love dog Says:

They stated no Cats are making a big impact in the nba. Wrong!! Rondo is the best true pg in the nba. Celtics without him are miserable. Rondos constantly in the teens in assists as well as contributing in scoring and rebounds. Rondo is awesome!!!

  16. George Cannon Says:

I was there that day at Maryville and met Adam for the first time. His website allows me to follow the NBA with the UK pro player aspect. Thats the biggest draw for me to watch or read about the NBA Thanks again Adam.

  17. Franco Says:

I’m sure there is a future prom date in that picture for Drew!

  18. CatomicBomb Says:

Matt, did you find that dude and put your arm around him? He seemed pretty confident that you would. Post that pic, as we all know how you like to do things like that to random people u meet.

  19. Pat Thompson Says:

Great site and very nice of Matt to do that. Another site that I love, KentuckyBasketballForum.com, also covers the NBA Cats and you can click on all of them in the sidebar and see instant stats for their previous games.

How does one’s child become obese before Jr. High?
