Some Easy Listening if You So Desire

by @ 11:45 am. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

walkons

Sometimes I get restless this time of year and yearn for a chance to talk college basketball. My radio show gives me a chance to do that, but occasionally it isn’t enough. That is why today I was excited to be a guest on a Duke (yes, Duke) podcast. The Walk-Ons Podcast is hosted by two Duke fans, one a writer for Grantland.com ((@tobaccordblues) and the other a witty journalist in North Carolina (@thedevilwolf). The two guys are very intelligent and engaging and we hit a number of topics:

— Why Kentucky is now the top program in the land

— Whether Duke has slipped

— My perception of Calipari pre and post coming to UK

— the time I had at CBS and why it ended

— Fighting with the mainstream media

— Is there any fanbase like the Big Blue Nation

It is a good 30 minute chat, and worth a listen if you are so inclined. Click the link below to hear and say hello to two Duke fans that are actually quite likeable:

Am I the only one who didn’t realize Matt’s time at CBS had “ended”? What happened there?

  2. hersheyisabear Says:

    Listening right now.

  3. jack Says:

    good interview

I’m not a Duke fan in the slightest but saying they’ve slipped is a bit far fetched. They just won the National Championship a couple of seasons ago. I think the game next season will be very competitive considering the 2 schools tradition

  5. Kidd Says:

Anything for $$$. Ive always said it…. MJ has taken firm grasp on Cal’s coat tails and is in it for GREEN not BLUE!Delete this MJ so the true fans dont see your true intentions.

  6. Big Richard P Says:

I like how Jones plays this outsider role yet he works for Two tv stations and has a radio show in Louisville. Uh, that is not being an outsider d-bag.

  7. Johnny Livengood Says:

Performance wise (W’s v. L’s) it may be a reach to say Duke has slipped, but in some areas I do believe they have. The Duke teams of the early 90′s and from 1998-2006 had a certain aura around them that the last four or five Duke teams have not had. That includes the 2010 championship team, which wasn’t exactly crawling with NBA talent. Previous Duke teams usually had a player that most other fans couldn’t stand The entire 1991-92 team, Battier, Redick, etc. The last half decade really hasn’t had that player that stands out as being a “villain”

#5, who cares. We live in a capitalist country and well he and his friends created this site to talk about UK basketball which was his passion. It’s not his fault that it is or is not a money maker or that it helped springboard his career. If you or anyone else had the chance to do it first then you would have. Leave MJ alone. I love this site for what it is, a place for hardcore UK fans to get together and nerd fight about the greatest program in the history of sports. UK!!!!!!!

  9. Big Richard P Says:

    Duke has slipped for sure!

In the past 13 years Duke has only make it past the Sweet 16 three times. Of course all three times they did they made the Final Four and two of those times they won it all.

In the past 8 years they only got past the sweet 16 once and that was when the NCAA gift wrapped them the National Championship in 2010.

When K leaves the program will be in the crapper, much like UK has been since Rick left.

  10. ksmitty1000p Says:

#9, I will give you credit for the Duke stuff. But UK is no longer in the crapper as your statement indicated. If you haven’t noticed we are far from it: 1 Elite Eight, 2 FF and a National Championship in 3 years is far from the crapper. UK was in the crapper during BCG and about 1/2 of Tubby’s tenure but no longer. We are the hottest CBB team on the planet and have kids begging us to entend them a scholarship. UK blue is once again the blue mentioned when the term Blue Blood of College Ball is used, all thanks to Cal.

Why does Matt sound like he is talking with marshmallows in his mouth?
