Davis and Miller on MKG and the Lion King

by @ 1:32 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

You don’t need me to tell you about Michael Kidd-Gilchrist’s heart and determination. You see it on the court every time UK plays, and a lot of us even try to mimic his attitude by following the motto, “What Would Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Do?” in our every day lives.

It turns out, Darius Miller and Anthony Davis do the same. They know MKG better than anyone, and even they are still amazed by his motor. Take for instance, Miller, who has been around more NBA talent than a Kardashian, said today that MKG is unlike any teammate he’s had before.

“Out of all the players I’ve played with, he’s at the top. He’s like the engine to the team,” Miller said. “What makes Mike so special is the passion he plays with. He’s a great teammate.”

Anthony Davis agrees. He doesn’t even know how his fellow freshman phenom brings it the way he does, every single day.

“He never gets tired, ” Davis said. “He always stays after practice and works out. The rest of us don’t see how he does it. He’s always in overdrive.”

Davis and his teammates feed off that energy in the games, too.

“He brings it every game. He is always pumping up the crowd and pumping up the team.”

So, what fuels Kidd-Gilchrist’s continuous motor? Anthony Davis thinks he might have the answer:

“He loves the Lion King,” Davis said. “He tries to watch it every night.”

Hakuna Matata.

Goes along with the program, a king is cast out and an idiot runs the show for awhile (Billy G), then the rightful heir to the throne comes along (Cal) and restores the kingdom back to it’s glory days(UK).

  25. emlang08 Says:

Hopefully you guys did not miss the special “A Quest for a Perfect Season” It aired before this year and is all about Gilchrist and his Senior year at St. Patrick’s. On a side note, the long time well respected HS coach of his took a HC job in Florida and just recently St. Patrick’s released a statement that the Archdiocese was closing the doors!

  26. Dub Z Says:

  29. Lee T Todd > Capilouto Says:

Its funny that Matt thinks the Kate on State twitter account is really her account….Just like the KY Couch Probz account is really a couch’s. The real Kate (been friends with her for a while) doesnt know about it but knows about the video because her friends are the one who burned first couch on state. Too bad shes engaged to a marine.

  30. Lee T Todd > Capilouto Says:

    the address is @Kate_on_state

  31. Lee T Todd > Capilouto Says:

Its just a fake account someone made up by stealing the pic from the KY Couch Probz account that they took

  32. bluehaircatfat Says:

how can you love this kid more? oh, how I wish he would stay another year to drive next year’s younguns and get em going!

  33. ky_99 Says:

MKG did an interview before he had commited to UK. In that interview they asked what his favorite movie was. He told them Lion King. His reason was that was the last movie he watched with his father before he passed. He said it makes him remember his father so he tried to watch it everyday. Just thought I would throw that out there so people understandhow special that movie is to him and why he loves it.

  34. NBA league pass Says:

I have a feeling MKG is going to dominate the final 4. I predict 2 double/doubles.

here is the story of MKG and lion king

  36. Fact Says:

#25- “Prayer for A Perfect Season” was the name of the documentary and it was great insight into MKG. His uncle died while they were filming it AND the morning that he was set to sign his letter of intent to UK. The family went through with the plans in memory of his uncle. Michael is a special kid!

  37. BPsycho Says:

Lion King is the ****. When Rafiki says ” It is time “…. epic.

  38. GummyBear Says:

Well actually, Hakuna Matata is the exact opposite of what MKG has.

  39. yargamel Says:

Surely one enterprising UK fan can play the start to the Circle of Life as the team is warming up or right before the tip.

  40. CAUKFAN Says:

Sucks that by the time you realize how awesome some of these kids are, it’s almost over. Or was MKG the one that said he was going to graduate?

  41. Ican'twait! Says:

    Exactly #37! It is time!

  42. coreyt Says:

Just saw on espn barnes, marshall and henson for unc are all going pro

  43. Jayinthemiddle Says:

Hey Drew, the Miller/Kardashian line is big boy writing…well done!

  44. AMIRITE Says:

if he works out so damn much, why does he always start huffing and puffing after the first play of the game like he’s dying?
someone needs to check the lion king for asthma problems

  45. Rafiki Says:

You’ve all been double reverse changoed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes!

  46. Maxbps8 Says:

#33…Thanks for the insight. Makes it and MKG all the MORE incredible. Amazing young man. And #40…What took you so long.) But, yeah, it would be climbing Mt. Everest if we could spend four-years with MKG! (Then again, DMill is the ‘silent’ MKG!)
