Bless their little hearts. A group of Vanderbilt students are promoting this t-shirt for the game on Saturday. If this is the best they have, well, it’s exactly what we’d expect from Vanderbilt.
Hell, I didn’t even know Vanderbilt had basketball fans. I commend them for coughing up $15 of daddy’s money to spend on a custom t-shirt.
Nicely done, Vandy kids. Kind of.

that’s actually pretty funny. I took a few minutes to troll on their website. I think I made all 4 of them pretty upset. Bottom line here is they hate UK for many reasons. Most of those reasons revolve around us owning their sorry a$$es. However, some of the hate stems from the fact that there is a UK bar on the corner just down the street from whatever that sh*tbox is called the Vandy plays in.
Bottom line here is, F Vandy. Let the beatdown commence!

A) I’d love to know where you heard Vandy was actually going to do that, because I seriously doubt Vandy fans are actually going to print or wear a shirt like that.
B) Not sure how much you know about Vanderbilt, but they’re hypersensitive about gender/sexual orientation discrimination, to the point that the hot-button issue on their campus all spring has been an administration policy change concerning whether certain fraternities can expel homosexual members based on the language in that fraternity’s constitution.
C) Again, no way are Vandy fans going to wear a shirt like that to the game.

Dear Mr. Franklin,
It has come to our attention that you reported Vanderbilt students will be using daddy’s money on custom T – shirts to wear to the game. Please be aware of the inaccuracies in your reporting :
#1) “little hearts” as this implies VU students have hearts. To correct your reporting you should substitute “the 3rd world children making the shirts for slave wages have little hearts”
#2) “daddy’s money” implies funding from their parents. To correct your reporting you should substitute “own wallets via large trust funds established by their great grandparents” as Vandy students have their own money and are proud to be in the 1% not having to Occupy Wall Street
#3) “Vanderbilt had fans” implies actual VU students will attend the game. Nothing could be further from the truth as the VU students intend to hire idle Memphis and Tennessee fans to sit in the VU student section and cheer for Vandy. VU students believe in “trickle down” economics and intend to use their wealth to hire the less fortunate at Memphis and Tennessee to work for them at the basketball contest.

The two links I posted at 48, which you apparently didn’t read, reveal that last fall, BYX, a Christian fraternity, kicked out two guys because they were gay. Vanderbilt, being the PC institution that it tries to be, is now requiring all student organizations to sign a form affirming they will comply with university policies, which require that membership in registered student organizations be open to everyone and that everyone who desires to do so has the opportunity to seek leadership positions in those organizations. Religious organizations like BYX don’t like it because they feel that they should have the right to expel or disallow membership to whoever it wants, consistent with the terms of their constitutions.
Atheism has nothing to do with it.
TL;DR: You really should read more.

FWIW, I think organizations should be able to use their own criteria for membership, so I’m not exactly for what the university administration is proposing either. MY POINT WAS that the school is very sensitive to diversity issues, vis a vis its decision to require student organizations to adhere to the new policy and eviscerating their ability to define their own membership.

I really do hope that this becomes a story, because it will make Vandy fans look pretty bad. I need to point out Vandy’s athletes take classes at a small college the university quietly incorporated into their system a few years ago. This whole idea of their athletes taking more scholarly classes than the average college athlete by virtue of them being Vanderbilt is nothing more than a myth.

1) I have not heard of any vanderbilt student ordering this shirt. please, we’re far too intelligent to stoop to that level. Also, the comment that Vandy’s athletes are enrolled in a separate college is complete BS. I’ve had many classes with athletes and I’m a regular student. Also, our most common major on our basketball team is economics. A bit tougher than Undergraduate Studies at UK, hmm? Seriously, do your research and try to summon all of your brain cells to come up with better lies.

They think they are smart because the overpay for their education. But Cafepress.com will print up shirts for you but you need to request them. I believe we should report this to the Gay Rights folks. Then we could really have fun watch Vandy fans “take one” for the team. It would be a field day complete with marches, protests, and more rainbows than that crazy double rainbow guys ever thought about tripping out on.

If this is indeed the shirt, it will just be more people wearing Blue and White (alng with the real UK fans) – our guys may think its a home game. Could backfire too. If UK puts a thumping on them, they’ll be saying we just got our asses handed to us by a team of 2GAY guys.

In all seriousness, it is pretty childish to use “gay” as a insult in everyday speech, much less put it on a T-shirt to show broadcast your ignorance.
Sigh. Vandy. Your gym is terrible and smells bad, your football team is a perennial whipping boy, your girls are by FAR the ugliest in the conference, the size and passion of your fan base is a joke. Really the only thing you had going for you was being the SEC’s token “smart” school. How can you do something that makes you look SO DUMB?

For all of you UK fans that believe the UK2GAY shirt is something a Vandy student just created….Google “UK2GAY t-shirt”. Looks like that shirt has been available since AT LEAST Feb. 18, 2010. On multiple sites too. No need to feel special about this one.

The bloggers? ranters? of this site should be ashamed of themselves for implying something that was created AT LEAST 2 years ago, by who knows who, was a current work of Vanderbilt or a Vanderbilt student. Learn a little journalistic integrity. A moronic frat kid at ANY school could do something like this. Since there is evidence this shirt has existed for quite some time it is irresponsible to report it as they have done.

To all the butthurt(pun intended.. I mean come on, look at my name) Vandy fans saying that no Vandy student would ever wear this; get over yourselves. Good lord, of course they will. It’s a sizable arena with a decent student body. News flash – some students are idiots, regardless of where they go. Vandy has bigots and imbeciles just like Kentucky, UT, UGA, and all the rest.
I’d be shocked if it wasn’t some facebook group, or student organization or something who stumbled upon the shirts and thought they were way more clever than they actually are. So of course Vandy students or alumni are involved, and of course a few will wear them to the game. It’d be far more surprising if they didn’t.
I know you have school spirit and rah-rah whatever, but be real People aren’t all good. Sorry.

I fail to see the connection between this shirt and Vandy, and I would like to see some proof. As a Vandy alum and current UK student, I see this as hate mongering for the game this weekend, and irresponsible journalism by Matt Jones and his flunkies. Shame on you.

This is a cute way to garner comments Mr. Franklin. To drive home your point about the childish nature of Vanderbilt fans you should probably link to hard evidence, or do more than one minute of research before making hateful posts. I should probably be admonished for expecting any sort of journalistic integrity from a UK fansite, or even to expect coherent posts (I have found neither), although I did not expect bigotry to be included in the mix.
For those of you who go/went to UK (or, perish the thought, one of the directional Kentucky schools) then you probably never learned about yellow journalism. Too bad these shirts were pulled from the website. The good news is the print is able to saved. I think we should alter this shirt a little though. Maybe put a picture of IU’s game winning shot by Watford that includes when Teague had his face buried lips deep in Miller’s azz while they were both getting burnt.
