Guess which spot is us.
-UK keeps its hold on the number one spot for another week, according to the ESPN/USA Today coaches’ poll. Rounding out the top five are Syracuse, Ohio State, Missouri, and North Carolina. Nothing at all surprising there. Duke fell from 4th to 9th, and Kansas dropped two spots to wind up in 10th place. Send good vibes UNC’s way this week, as they try to dominate Duke at the Dean Dome (say that ten times fast).
-Not only do the Cats remain atop the national rankings, but to no surprise, they’re also at the top of the SEC Power Rankings on ESPN.com. Filling out the top five, in order from most to least threatening, are Florida, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and Alabama. I’m just teasing, none of those teams are really threatening. Bring it.
-Oh, and let’s don’t forget the Bilas Index, which is, according to Jay himself, “without argument, the single most precise, dependable, trustworthy and unfailing measure of the value, worth and achievement of college basketball teams ever devised, contemplated or considered by man or beast.” That sounds like a little bit of narcissism, but I like Jay Bilas, and this week he happens to be absolutely correct in his assessment of the Wildcats, placing them firmly at the top behind Davis’ stellar performances.
-In other, non-poll oriented news, Darius Miller remains atop the “Dunk of the Year” polling on Facebook. If you have a Facebook account, and you haven’t voted for him yet, shame on you. It’s not too late, and you can vote once a day. For further motivation: Victor Oladipo’s dunk on us is currently number two. Don’t let him overtake our senior.
-Greg Monroe broke Brandon Knight’s nose. Sick ‘em.
-I spent some time at my grandparents’ yesterday (who are the truest of Blue fans you could meet), and my aunt showed us this video of Marlana VanHoose, a young singer who performed the National Anthem at UK Hoops’ game against Ole Miss last Thursday. You need to watch that video, and we really need to figure out a way to get her to do the same thing in Rupp for a home game this season. She’s unreal.
-Duke lost at home.

That girl can sing!
February 6th, 2012 at 1:13 pm
I agree. She need to sing at a men’s game in Rupp. I vote for the game against Vanderbilt on Feb 25th. It needs to be included in the TV broadcast as well. Make it happen.

#5 – Absolutely agree. Come on Matt Jones, use some of your massive influence to make this happen.
February 6th, 2012 at 1:37 pm
Corey, I hope you are kidding about Bilas being narcisstic, he’s obviously being facetious with his over-the-top description of the Bilastrator.
February 6th, 2012 at 1:42 pm
Man that girl singing our national anthem just about brought tears to my eyes. Unreal.
February 6th, 2012 at 1:44 pm
Yah I just sent that link to my parents with the title ‘Go and ahead and try not to cry’… get her in Rupp… wow.
February 6th, 2012 at 1:49 pm
A little off topic, but does anyone know where to watch UK/Vandy game in 3D other than someone’s living room who has ESPN3D?
February 6th, 2012 at 1:59 pm
13. You could goto the game.
February 6th, 2012 at 2:01 pm
We are pulling for Duke to destroy UNC Corey.
February 6th, 2012 at 2:11 pm
National Anthem video – All you can say is WOW! That girl has an amazing voice. They have got to get her for a men’s game.
February 6th, 2012 at 2:36 pm
How drunk are you idiot? If unc loses a couple more games they could be a #2 seed. If they are a #2 seed they could end up in our bracket. I don’t want to face unc, osu, or cuse until the final 4. Duke does not scare me. Unc petrifies me. It’s our championship to lose but it’s going to be very difficult with 1 of the deepest fields in recent memory.
February 6th, 2012 at 2:39 pm
And Corey way to rebound from your last debacle of a post, I was rooting for you.
February 6th, 2012 at 2:39 pm
Why does UNC scare you? Did they look that impressive getting destroyed at FSU? UNC is weak as hell.
February 6th, 2012 at 2:39 pm
Uhhhh… Greg Monroe is Brandon Knight’s teammate. I think that’s what would be called friendly fire.
February 6th, 2012 at 2:42 pm
8 McDonald’s all Americans, many of them upperclassmen. Unc is the only team in America with comparable talent to us. I’m not a roy fan but he has won 2 so nothing will surprise him in March. Bottom line is unc has shot makers and tremendous length. They have an extremely hi ceiling and i hope we don’t have to play them again.
