It’s National Signing Day Eve and the Cats just picked up a big football commitment from Jalen Whitlow out of Prattville, Arkansas. The three-star athlete had originally committed to Arkansas State (two weeks ago) but he just announced on Twitter that he’ll be playing for the University of Kentucky.
Just committed to The University of Kentucky. I thank God for this.

Take that Sun Belt Conference!
January 31st, 2012 at 2:25 pm
Who the hell would rather go to Arkansas State over Kentucky?
January 31st, 2012 at 2:26 pm
i hope he won’t be like the other quarterbacks we converted to receiver and can’t catch a football.
January 31st, 2012 at 2:28 pm
I think Prattville is in Alabama.
January 31st, 2012 at 2:29 pm
I bet Joker sees him as a Randall Cobb like wildcat and WR.
January 31st, 2012 at 2:30 pm
It is in Alabama. KSR writers arent very bright.
January 31st, 2012 at 2:33 pm
yeah the youtube vid says prattville, al. we’re all here to learn.
January 31st, 2012 at 2:34 pm
3 – Like Randall Cobb?
January 31st, 2012 at 2:35 pm
i hope joker doesnt get run out of town after this season bc we could be pretty good in a few years. this season will be ugly tho, we’ll see if he gets through it.
January 31st, 2012 at 2:35 pm

January 31st, 2012 at 2:36 pm

January 31st, 2012 at 2:38 pm
You can never have too many pitchers….err quarterbacks..ask Matt Roark
January 31st, 2012 at 2:40 pm

January 31st, 2012 at 2:41 pm
Will be given a look at QB..but will be a WR/wildcat. Not only does he have good speed for his size, he comes from one of the top football programs in Alabama
January 31st, 2012 at 2:43 pm
After Malzahn went to Arkansas State, Barrett Trotter and Michael Dyer transferred there so this was us getting some leftovers from that regime change.
January 31st, 2012 at 2:47 pm
Wow, stealing a recruit from mighty Arkansas State is big news now.
January 31st, 2012 at 2:47 pm
When are we going to stop recruiting “Athletes”.. and get some skill postion players?
January 31st, 2012 at 2:51 pm
YEAH!!
January 31st, 2012 at 2:52 pm
Back to basketball please…does not matter how many scrubs we take away from FCS schools, we are still going to be terrible under Joker.
January 31st, 2012 at 2:54 pm
Don’t Hate- Congratulate!
January 31st, 2012 at 2:58 pm
went to high school in alabama and even played some 6a football down in bham for hoover high…this guy is incredibly underrated…he will make a huge impact on kentucky..huge get for the cats
January 31st, 2012 at 2:59 pm
Matt Roark Jr.?????????
January 31st, 2012 at 3:01 pm
Where is the podcast? I was in meetings from 10-11 and spent the 11:00 hour walking around in blind rage after the meetings in the 10:00 hour.
January 31st, 2012 at 3:01 pm
I like the guy, we need this kind of player.
January 31st, 2012 at 3:02 pm
Looks like an awesome player to have at wide receiver. Definitely excited.
January 31st, 2012 at 3:03 pm
I hope he pans out. Can’t say him playing on a good high school team means much to me though. There were probably 80 players on his HS team. Does that mean any of them would be good gets?
January 31st, 2012 at 3:03 pm
Who cares about football recruits. It’s bball time in RUPP tonight.
January 31st, 2012 at 3:11 pm
We s’posed to be sec.
January 31st, 2012 at 3:13 pm
This kid will never play QB, I really doubt he ever plays over Patrick Towles so he better be prepared to switch to another position. It would be nice if he turned out to be in the mold of a Randall Cobb.
January 31st, 2012 at 3:24 pm
Stone Cold Whitlow….sounds good
January 31st, 2012 at 3:28 pm
#31 it seems we’ll have several “in the mold of Randall Cobb”…
Instead of the “Wildcat” offense we’ll be running the “Wildlitter” – you never know who’s going to throw it, run it, kick it, catch it or stay in a block!!
Now, how does a defense prepare for that?!?
January 31st, 2012 at 3:29 pm
For the idiots who are dogging the kid….
(1) He committed to Arkansas State after Malzahn was named coach. Gus did not run him off, so we aren’t getting his leftovers.
(2) Ole Miss just offered the kid also.
(3) He is big, fast and athletic. He can play a few different positions. He also comes from a school that just wins and has about 10-15 D-1 Senior players on the team each year. He knows how to compete and play against top competition.
(4) His he the best guy out there? No, but he meets a big need at the 11th hour.
January 31st, 2012 at 3:33 pm
ALL YOU FOOTBALL HATERS SUCK IT!!!! GO CATS and congrats on a great recruit!!
January 31st, 2012 at 3:35 pm
I don’t know what the fuss is about… This kid is a great athelete and knows what to do with the ball in his hands. C-A-T-S CATS CATS CATS
January 31st, 2012 at 3:38 pm
GO USC! Just stole Nelson Agholor from Florida! bhaha, thats funny.
January 31st, 2012 at 3:41 pm
@34 Yea…that is a great argument. So not only did we “beat out” Arkansas State, but the powerhouse that is Ole Miss football wanted him too! Come on, man!
January 31st, 2012 at 3:47 pm
On a side note, he has perfect form throwing the football in the above picture. Elbow sitting on the numbers shelf, nose of ball is up. Do not know much about him, but I would bet he is an accurate passer with that form.
January 31st, 2012 at 3:52 pm
#38. Look…its always nice to see a kid commit with a quality offer sheet, but we get what we get. We aren’t going to pull an Alabama kid from AL with an offer from LSU/AU/Bama. Not going to happen. You cant judge just off a kids offer sheet.
Two examples…(1) We beat out MTSU for Cobb and (2) LSU beat out So. Miss, Tulane and La-Monroe for a guy they call the ‘Honey Badger’.
January 31st, 2012 at 3:55 pm
#38…also, my comments were geared to the false statements above that Malzahn ran the kid off and that he had no other offers. Both of those statements were lies and I wanted to point that out.
I’m not trying to build him up as a hero bc he had an Ole Miss offer, just that he did have other offers.
January 31st, 2012 at 4:00 pm
I still say UK football will never be relevant with us in the SEC. In order for us to be relevant we need to adopt the crazy uniforms ideas that Oregon does and create an offensive gameplan that is appealing. put diamonds in the damn helmets for all i care
January 31st, 2012 at 4:09 pm
@BillDozer
Ok…I’m with you. Let’s not forget that our boy Jorts was almost a Rick Majerus signee…
January 31st, 2012 at 4:17 pm
#21, Arkansas State is actually FBS. And they have had some considerable success in recent years.
#40, Didn’t we beat out Bama to get Daryl Collins?
After a great deal of thought, I’ve concluded that Joker will be given a fourth year even if he goes 5-7 again. It took Brooks until his fourth year to put it all together, and that is what the administration is no doubt anticipating. Not saying it’s right, but saying that’s how it will be.
January 31st, 2012 at 4:22 pm
whitlow played on my son’s team here in Bama. Good to see him headed to Lexington.
January 31st, 2012 at 4:26 pm
Here is my breakdown on Whitlow. He has a great arm and great hands. He is strong, very fast, and could play WR for the Cats. He shared time with Justin Thomas ( Originally a Bama commit but changed to Ga Tech) at QB for Prattville – Ala 6A champs. He could develop into a decent QB who can throw and can run – he is a hard runner and very quick in open space.Whitlow has a lot of upside to him and it will be fun watching him play for the Blue.
January 31st, 2012 at 4:31 pm
$44…We did beat out Bama/LSU and some others for Collins. But, he did have a grayshirt offer with Bama and I think by the time the bad news came from Bama the other schools were full. At least thats my understanding.
We didnt really beat those teams out in a head to head battle. In the end, he was good enough to play about anywhere in the league so that gives you a lot of hope in the kid assuming he makes it back from the injury
January 31st, 2012 at 4:37 pm
We’re supposed to get excited because we beat out Arkansas State for a recruit? I’m all atwitter…
January 31st, 2012 at 4:45 pm
Way to go Joker! Nothing like stealing recruits from 1AA schools to get to that “Next Level”.
January 31st, 2012 at 4:51 pm
Don’t underestimate Whitlow. He was a great player on a tremendous high school football team. He would have been much more heavily recruited if he was on most any other team. This high school team has two FSU commits, two Bama commits, a Wake Forest commit, a Ga Tech commit, a Southern Miss commit,a couple of South Alabama commits, and a couple of other guys that may sign with D1 schools.
January 31st, 2012 at 4:54 pm
I suppose we are stepping up in the world. Our coach can now beat out Arkansas State for a recruit. I know that is really going to help compete against Alabama and LSU.
January 31st, 2012 at 4:55 pm
I actually live in Montgomery and commute to Prattville for work everyday. Prattville is a football powerhouse, churning out D1 players like crazy. This guy is legit, seen him play a number of times since he’s been a sophmore. He didnt have to throw the ball for his team to be successful because he was surrounded by playmakers. He could be a QB in the right offense but I think he’ll easily transition to WR. He is an impressive athlete, very impressive.
January 31st, 2012 at 5:21 pm
UK is stealing recruits from Arkansas State while U of L is stealing recruits from Miami. Hahaha!!!
January 31st, 2012 at 5:33 pm
44} Even I hope I am wrong but we are not going 5-7 this year. Maybe, and I mean MAYBE, 4 wins but could be only 3 and I see none in the SEC.
January 31st, 2012 at 5:35 pm
doesn’t matter we could get the #1 recruit, sad thing is we don’t have a coach who can teach or develop this kids.
January 31st, 2012 at 5:58 pm
If you guys hate UK so much and only want to bitch about Joker, go make a website dedicated to hating Joker and leave what recruits we get out of the line of fire for your hatred. I want UK football to be great as well, but always being negative and blaming everything on one coach is absurd. If he doesn’t win, he won’t last much longer so let it go and stop hammering the football program “fans”
January 31st, 2012 at 6:58 pm
Kentucky is #14 in the SEC with this recruiting class with the addition of Mizzou and Texas AM. We gotta do better! Louisville ranked #1 class in Big Least, gag.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:10 pm
just seen on twitter that a gray shirt alabama rb commit might be favoring ky sound like might get him like we did darryl collins http://ww2.ajcmobile.com/wap/news/text.jsp?sid=1001&nid=1317254145&cid=64&scid=2811&ith=0&title=Recruiting+News&headtitle=Recruiting+News
January 31st, 2012 at 9:21 pm
Prattville, Alabama is one of the premiere football programs in the country. I really wish the football team was covered more on this website.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:59 pm
ARKANSAS STATE IS AN FBS SCHOOL THAT JUST HIRED THE GUY THAT MADE AUBURN’s OFFENSE TICK FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS! Bash football if you want but you uneducated pricks complaining about this post taking away from your precious basketball can shove it up your butt and go do it somewhere else!
February 1st, 2012 at 12:15 am
next randall cobb haha
February 1st, 2012 at 12:21 am
It gets pretty tiring to see we lost a Running back to Nebraska and steal one from ARK ST. We’ll see. I don’t think Joker is the answer as Head Coach
February 1st, 2012 at 9:03 am
Do you guys really think the hating will help in ANY way to turn our football program around? Wake up. I’ve watched the Cats for over 40 years. The years we have been successful were the years when we had several of these type of players that the coaching staff found. They were either underrated, had a lot of heart, were diamonds in the rough that were developed or all 3. I welcome Whitlow to the program and see a nice base of young players.
