Coach Calipari is out on the recruiting trail this evening as he’ll reportedly be watching Andrew Wiggins, the consensus #1 player in the class of 2014. According to Evan Daniels, Cal will be on hand when Wiggins’ Huntington Prep (WV) squad takes on Lakewood St. Edward (OH) tonight at 9 p.m. The game will be played at Walsh University in Canton, OH as part of the Dunk 4 Diabetes Shootout. You might remember that Huntington Prep is the alma mater of Patrick Patterson, and although I doubt that will have any kind of bearing on Wiggins recruitment it’s still interesting to note.
Wiggins is a 6’7″ forward originally from Toronto, and is ranked #1 by Scout, Rivals and ESPN. He also made ESPN’s list of the 25 best high school players regardless of class, and you’re about to watch the obligatory video featuring him:

Patterson did not play at Huntington Prep! He played at Huntington High! Huntington Prep wasn’t there when Patterson played! Same city though.

He looks smooth at any level of the game. To be that young and have skills like this. Gonna make millions one day kid just stay out of trouble and go to UK that is your ticket to success.

Great! Indicates Cal expects to be around for a few more years if he is recruiting that far in the future.

7) cal is getting to old to be hunting for NBA jobs, he clearly states ever time it’s bought up, he’s at Kentucky. 100% chance he’s here 2014.

it would be nice since we now have several former UK players on NBA rosters to get a weekly or bi-weekly summary like you guys did with the NFL games this year.

January 29th, 2012 at 9:11 pm
#4 is correct. Patterson would not have played at a shady school like Huntington Prep
January 29th, 2012 at 9:25 pm
I remember when Scott County and Bud Mackey beat Huntington High who had PPat and O.J. Mayo at the time. Memories.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:28 pm
His game resembles Kidd-Gilchrist’s.

The play by the LSU player on ADavis, when he grabbed him from behind and threw him to the ground, was the dirtiest play I recall seeing on a UK player. He could have been hurt bad enough on that play to be out for the season. Can anyone recall a worse play on a UK player?

PPat played for Huntington High, his local high school. Htgn Prep is a basketball team that has ‘classes’ at a local private Catholic school. As #4 pointed out, it didnt exist when Patterson was in high school and #12 is correct too, PPat would not have played for a shady ‘school’ like that. The Deng kid from Louisville played for Htgn prep though.

Huntington Prep did not exist when Patterson was in high school. Check it out.

I do recall that Sam Bowie was under cut going in toward the basket versus Vanderbilt down in Nashville in 1981. This play effectively cut out two years from Sam’s playing days at UK and nearly ended his playing career. It has been a long time since I have seen that play, but I do recall being mad after it happened. The Davis play brought back memories of that fateful day for Sam back in 81. I just hope and pray that Davis is careful!

Huntington Prep has a VERY shady reputation. No actual school at all, just a gym and use another schools classrooms. Definately not Oak Hill
January 30th, 2012 at 9:50 am
One clarification, Patrick Patterson played at HUNTINGTON HIGH and not
Huntington Prep as I recall and he played with O. J. Mayo…..CFR
