The man, the myth, the legend that is Shabazz Muhammad spoke to C2CHoops.com on Wednesday night about his play recently and, of course, his recruitment. Shabazz said that Coach K has probably been talking to him the most recently and they have a “good relationship” (blegh!), but that he still doesn’t have a favorite among Arizona, Duke, UCLA, Kentucky, UNLV, and Kansas (although he forgot to mention the Jayhawks during the interview…score!). As for the Cats, Shabazz said that he spoke to them last week and was impressed with the recruits that have signed so far. Apparently he’s also putting in two extra hours of shooting each day after practice, working specifically on his jump shot.
In an interview with CBSSports.com’s Jeff Borzello, Shabazz was equally as cryptic about his decision, insisting he won’t make one until he’s taken all of his official visits, the last three of which are scheduled for Duke, Kansas and Arizona. When asked about the Cats, Shabazz said Cal’s trip to see him play in the Hoophall Classic a few weeks ago did not go unnoticed:
“The interest level is high,” Muhammad said. “Coach Cal was at my game. I talked to them a week ago. I just think I fit really well in their style of play.”
Guess who else was there? Mr. Stretch Limo himself, Mike Krzyzewski:
“Coach K is just a mastermind,” he said. “I’m really getting excited about going down there.”
Hrmph. I knew I should have become a mind reader.

Bazz will NOT go to duke. Never.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:03 pm
I want him badly, but I just have a bad feeling he isn’t going to end up here.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:06 pm
Coach K a mastermind..not, masterbater…probably. LOL….Sorry, time for my meds……….
January 27th, 2012 at 4:07 pm
Just listened to the interview. Can’t tell if he kinda blew off the UK answer or was downplaying his interest. Ugh. I’m not sure we are going to get him.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:10 pm
For some reason I have not felt good about our chances from the start. I hope I am wrong, if not, that’s his loss. Great talent no doubt.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:14 pm
Don’t worry BBN, with or without BAZZ, THE CATS will be just fine!! In CAL we trust! GO CATS!!!!!
January 27th, 2012 at 4:19 pm
Agree with 5. I hope we get him, but if not then that’s his loss.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:20 pm
For some reason, I have always been confident we will get him.

You’re correct in saying Krzyzewski is a mastermind Bazz, he’ll mastermind you to make sure it’ll take 4 years for you to get in the league, where with Calipari you’ll be ready in 1!
January 27th, 2012 at 4:23 pm
Why is Duke talking to him more than us!!
January 27th, 2012 at 4:31 pm
All that needs to be said is Austin Rivers… Think about what Duke has done to him. They have made him out to be selfish ball hog. At UK he would have been a one and done for sure, but at duke he will take more time to develope his already great talent. Look at Harrison Barnes as well, he has improved in some areas but not as much as he could have at UK. Then the other schools on the list Arizona come on the PAC-12 is not going to get anyone ready for the league. That goes for UNLV as well. If these recruits want to max their talents on a national market come to UK PERIOD!!!

Tired of hearing about him. Commit already and just shutup and work on your game.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:44 pm
My read has been for a while that he loves the recruiting process too much to read anything into, well, anything really. He seems like a bright kid who knows how to keep his cards close to his chest.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:49 pm
No need to fret everyone, if Cal wants him, then Cal shall get him. He prob wont commit anywhere until april anyway so there is plenty of time for Cal to work his magic.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:49 pm
Judging by his demeanor, looks likes he’s tired of doing interviews. He couldn’t have been less interested in answering their questions.
I think UK is tops on his list and the only reason he’s waiting until spring is to make sure UK’s roster turns over. He’ll go where there’s the best shot for him to play right away, regardless.
January 27th, 2012 at 4:55 pm
The Cats will get their man!
January 27th, 2012 at 5:03 pm
Bazz is a Muslim. The Duke
student body is 42% Muslim.
He will feel more at home in
Durham.
January 27th, 2012 at 5:05 pm
I may be outa touch, but just heard that Shabazz is 21 years old. Is that old news?
January 27th, 2012 at 5:14 pm
Gnome
You must be high….or are you talking about Shabazz Hatfield from Virgie?
January 27th, 2012 at 5:16 pm
Nope, the real deal, said he had been held back 3 years.
January 27th, 2012 at 5:31 pm
22. wow, that surprises me. he’s very well spoken, i guess it worked.
January 27th, 2012 at 5:35 pm
Isn’t there an age limit on High Schoolers playing sports? I know there is in Indiana, and there used to be one in Kentucky……at least back in the stone age when I went to Iroquois HS in 1969.
January 27th, 2012 at 5:38 pm
19. I just looked it up he’s not 21?
January 27th, 2012 at 6:02 pm
Reminds me of John Wall recruitment, only it was worse because Bledsoe wanted to come too and people thought he might go somewhere else because he wouldn’t want to play behind Wall.
If he comes, he comes. Not going to fret about it.
January 27th, 2012 at 6:27 pm
Shabazz’s arms look awesome in that pic.

THIS KID CRAVES ATTENTION. He is very talented, obviously.
1. he knows he is keeping everyone on the edge of their seats by holding out (like my ex gf)
2. he eats that attention up! (also like my wh*re of an ex)
3. he is waiting on roster turnover at each school
4. WHERE ELSE CAN HE GET THAT ATTENTION??? UK and only UK. He will be a Cat. And if he doesn’t become a Cat, he deserves whatever he gets.
January 27th, 2012 at 7:03 pm
I was in Vegas this week for work and actually went to see Shabazz at a Gorman home game. He lived up to the hype and I actually spoke to his Dad when leaving the gym. I had my UK shirt on and he stopped me and said, “Love that shirt”. Obviously that doesn’t mean he’s coming to UK but it felt like a good sign
January 27th, 2012 at 7:05 pm
He’s very articulate. I dig the kid
January 27th, 2012 at 7:11 pm
He will play for the the school that pays his handler/aau coach the most money. This is common with almost all high profile players. It is what it is. Anyone who disagrees has their head up their a@s.
January 27th, 2012 at 7:24 pm
Kid seems smart he knows what he wants to do he just has to make sure that UK has room for him.
January 27th, 2012 at 7:26 pm
Nice post Tyler!
We crave recruiting news!
January 27th, 2012 at 8:37 pm
Maybe I’m on an island by myself but I’m burnt-out on these high school recruits saying they have no favorites. I want this whole recruiting process to be pared down to about 60 days. Most normal kids grow-up knowing exactly which college teams they like and don’t like. What brand shoe they like the best. Just cranking about all the, “I have no favorites” at this time.
January 27th, 2012 at 9:38 pm
Memo to Shabazz: You don’t belong with gravity-challenged, acne riddled Pukies. BBN is your home.
January 27th, 2012 at 10:22 pm
Dukes students aren’t even interested in basketball… why would you be interested in them shabazz come on and make the obvious choice
January 28th, 2012 at 9:23 am
He is only a one year player and even if we lose everyone but Wiljter we could put a completive starting 5 out there:
Ctr: Willie Cauley (a 7 foot top 30 player. I believe he made Mcdonalds All AMerican).
PF: K. Wiljter (You all have seen flashes of what he is capable of. Mcdonalds All American.
SF: Alex Poythress (At top 15 Mcdonalds All American. )
SG: Archi Goodwin ( Another top 15 Mcdonalds All American).
PG: Ryan Harrow (A former Mcdonalds All American).
So potentially we still have about 4 or 5 Mcdonald All Americans in the projected starting lineup next year and you guys are worried. Now I would admit that the bench will be thin with only Beckham and Hood, and also there is a slight chance that Wiljter could bolt and pull an Orton. But at the same time there is a possibility that Lamb and Teague would return because they are not high draft picks.
We are still in the mix for several high profile recruits besides Muhammad, including Anthony Bennett and Devonta Pollard.

#11 Ryan, your comments resonated with me. Last night I dreamt Shoe Bozz went to DUKE; took him 3 years to get to the NBA. And, because of our 1 and dones, no 8th title for UK anytime soon.
#33, tyrus, I agree with your last two statements. Kids know theire shoe fave and typically the college too; not sure about the ‘bottom line, @30, in re whether or not money talks.
