Kentucky Football Recruiting Updates

by @ 4:30 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

We have three major football recruiting tidbits for you today. One is about a former Kentucky verbal commitment who might be re-thinking the Cats, and the other two are former Tennessee commits who are now considering Kentucky.

These are three potential big time players…

—–

Imani Cross, Running back
Gainesville, Georgia
Rivals.com’s No. 20 RB in 2012

Cross officially decommitted from Tennessee last month when he found out the UT staff was recruiting over him. He said he never had intentions of leaving the Vols, but “when one door closes, another one opens.” “I’m just trying to move along,” he said.

The four-star running back visited UK’s campus on Tuesday and the Wildcats are very high on his list. Even though UK has a bright future on the ground with Josh Clemons, it never hurts to add a guy to the backfield who can bench 400 lbs. and squat 500 lbs.

Khalid Henderson, Linebacker
Hinesville, Georgia
ESPN Recruiting’s No. 19 LB in 2012

Imani Cross isn’t the only prospect decommitting from the Vols, four-star linebacker Khalid Henderson also re-opened his recruitment because he didn’t like the way he was treated by the staff after committing to Tennessee last summer. Henderson likes UK and was scheduled to meet with Kentucky assistant coach Greg Nord this afternoon.

Shadrach Thornton, Running back
Gainesville, Georgia
ESPN Recruiting’s No. 39 RB in 2012

Shadrach Thornton is another option at running back from 2012.  Thornton was UK’s No. 1 target and a player who gave a verbal commitment to the Cats, before deciding to go to NC State. The Georgia ball carrier has since decommitted from the Wolfpack and he’s speaking with Kentucky coaches this week.

    Imani = Beast

now back to basketball?!?! Regardless of your opinion of the UK fan interest in football it does exist. The interest may not be as prominent as it is for basketball but there are still plenty of fans that care very much about the welfare of the football program. Great news and I hope that these guys are the good news that jeremy jarmon was referring to. Keep the football news coming

  6. unreconstructed Says:

Ya rekkin Shadrach is a little on the wishy washy side of things…??

  7. Doug Says:

    5-Cool story, bro.

  8. Bastard Yak Says:

i, being a bigger basketball fan than football, kind of agree with 5. This is actually a pretty big story. It shouldn’t just be thrown aside.

  9. Wes Says:

Imani Cross..6’1” 220 with 400lb bench and 500lb squat. Yes please! All of these guys would be nice to have

  10. manbearpig Says:

Football news is great and stuff, but how is the Rifle team doing this year?

  11. secretagent0014 Says:

    9) Just like Handsome Jimmy he benches 4 and squats five we should show him some respect!!!

  13. Hoss Says:

Now then, this is more like it. Sign these guys and then show me multiple D-lineman with 4 star rankings and I’ll become aroused.

  14. JackBluto Says:

I wonder how long before we have more Georgia players than Kentucky players. We seem to be getting closer each year.

  15. ukgrad2004 Says:

They would all be great gets, but I agree with #13. Games are won or lost in the trenches. We need four-star players on the OL and DL if we are going to be a consistent factor in the SEC.

  16. jpgott2 Says:

There are many UK fans, that just want some progression in football! UK had been in the top-25 in attendance for 4 straight years (do not think we were this past year), even though we were nowhere to being a top-25 team. The fan-base is there, it just needs a product on the field. If UK could get these 4 Star guys, it would be going in the right direction. The only hurdle is getting Joker to actually produce.
I have been getting tired of hearing about UL’s recruiting success. All Strong has to do is beat 1 OK team (Cinnci), along Boise St, and they are in a BCS game. What a difficult path! Yet, many UL fans think they have some nationally recognized program. Bad for them is the fact the Urban Meyer, and tOSU are going to be going into the exact same schools as Strong, and stealing his elite recruits. I had to vent a little, for I live in UL, and that is all they talk about, since their Basketball is falling apart.

  17. catcrawler Says:

I agree #4. It’s always good to have a guy that strong to come in and break tackles when the defense is tired.

  18. Jimmy Dykes Says:

Forget Thornton and lets hope we get the other 2. How can you decommitt 2 times in a month with no coaching changes at either place?

  19. Gridiron_Wildcat Says:

I just hope that we can do something with all of this talent we’ve been bringing in the last couple years. All of these guys sound great but then so did Jerrell Priester and he never saw the field before transferring. Just be competitive with UofL this year and the SEC East and develop some sort of passing game and I’ll be happy.

  20. barn Says:

this will be news if these guys sign with UK. it means nothing right now.

  21. Nickster79 Says:

Sure would be nice if Drew linked where he got that information from…

  22. ukfan89 Says:

KSR sucks at football coverage. Know why? Because after EVERY article they write on the site they end it with “now back to basketball”. cover BOTH sports like it says in your site description and don’t act like football is an interruption. We have a good chance to get these players and fans want to know about it!

  23. TampaCat Says:

This football news would certainly be a “step” in the right direction. If we were to actually land these guys it would be AWESOME. It would also be great to use these players with nice play calls. To have great play call, you need the right coaches to make those calls. I believe we will get there but because of our AD, we have at least one more year to go before change can happen. Go Cats!

  24. Yabba Do Says:

Keep the football news coming. It is appreciated.

  25. Some Guy in Kentucky Says:

Great additions if they all sign with UK.

  26. big tim Says:

if they get cross they wont get thorton cause there not many spots left

  27. NotBogus Says:

Be nice to have all 3 of those offensive weapons and Patrick Towes!! That would be sick. Keep 3 running backs in every play and mix the shit up!! If these 3 dudes are reading this please come to Kentucky Blue. You will be loved guaranteed!! Do it together, the 3 amigos !! Bam! Bring it..!!

  28. Hoss Says:

10 is right on. Having these great players is neat and all, but we need to know the end effect. How will these players turn football dollars into a winning rifle or softball team? Those are the truly pressing questions.

And as for KSR, HOW DARE you guys not cover our Rifle and other tertiary sports programs. You are holding UK back!

  29. UKfansNKY Says:

THANK YOU #5…………..This website and these “SO-CALLED” KY. FANS that want to bash the football program just need to keep their useless comments to themselves!! GO CATS!!!

  30. buzzard Says:

Didn’t we get the three best D-linemen in the state? with Rump and Mr. Cobble back we could have a pretty good D line nexty year. Don’t we have several players who are considered to be very close to 4 stars? Will Larry Warford be back next year or will he enter the NFL draft?

  31. arab jobs Says:

Unquestionably imagine that which you stated. Your favorite justification appeared to be at the internet the simplest factor to be mindful of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed even as other folks think about worries that they just don’t recognize about. You managed to hit the nail upon the highest as smartly as defined out the entire thing without having side effect , other folks can take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thank you
