Nothing new to report, except further confirmation that the power of the Big Blue Nation struck again yesterday with the movement to get UK freshman Vincent Swope his money. The story of his controversial halfcourt shot made its way to Deadspin yesterday and all the way to Yahoo! today, demonstrating once again that it’s probably a better idea to just take care of your business rather than anger Kentucky fans. We will get you, and you will eventually end up looking bad. I think Referee Guy said it best when describing the UK faithful’s effort to get what is rightfully his:
“That’s the Big Blue Nation for you,” Swope said. “They supported me, and I really do appreciate it.”
Yes sir. That’s the Big Blue Nation for you. Now all that’s left to do is pay the man.

A half court shot is a half court shot. If you’re 1foot pass the time line it’s still a half court shot. I’d be willing to bet money they said nothing to this guy about stepping across the time line before he shot the ball. Pay the kid. He earned it.

17, I have researched the rules on about 10 different half court shot contest. Every one of them plainly state in the rules that the shooter has to be behind the line. And of course they wouldnt say anything if he was 1 foot behind the line because the rules state that you must be behind it. 1 inch or 1 foot, both are behind the line.

IMHO, this was blown ***WAY*** out of proportion! I absolutely believe Matt Jones was well-intentioned by spreading the word that “someone” had suggested to this young man that he might not be paid. But come on Matt. As best I can tell from all the stories that have been written (at KSR, Deadspin and Yahoo), whoever it was that suggested the kid might not be paid wasn’t an actual Kroger rep. To quote the Yahoo story:
“One of the organizers of the contest approached Swope in the midst of his celebration with a copy of the contract he’d signed and a video replay of the shot. The man intimated to Swope that the supermarket chain Kroger might not be willing to pay the $10,000 since Swope appeared to take the shot a few inches beyond the mid-court stripe.”
“One of the organizers”? He “intimated” that Kroger might not pay? Unless this person was actually involved in making the decision as to whether the kid would get paid or not, there was really no need to try to “rally BBN” to this young man’s defense. Not until Kroger actually had the chance to talk to the kid directly. If Kroger officially told the kid he wasn’t getting paid, *THEN* it would be time to unleash BBN on them. But despite what the #Occupy movement would have you believe, not all of corporate America is evil. They should have had their chance to address this before Matt started stiring up BBN. And in the end, what happened?
Again, to quote Yahoo:
“A representative of Kroger called Jones within an hour of the game ending on Saturday and asked him to tell Swope that he would receive the $10,000.”
There we go. There was never any reason to make this into the big deal that it became until Kroger, or a Kroger representative, stated that the guy wasn’t going to be paid.

IT”S STILL HALF COURT!!! What if his toe even DID touch the line does that mean he was at 3/4 court???!!??? Rediculous!!! Kroger should be EMBARRASSED!!! GOOD LORD!!! WHO”S SAYING KROGER SHOULDN”T PAY??!!! GEEEZ!!!
