Saturday UK Sports Extravaganza!

by @ 11:30 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Bobby says he carved this pumpkin….I dont think he has those skills

Saturday is a huge day for Kentucky sports. The rare treat of a football and basketball game on the same day is before us and even though talk has been scarce about the gridiron Cats this week, the game is huge. A chance to get bowl eligible, move the taste of the Florida game out of our collective mouths and push for a new round of momentum makes Saturday’s game in Starkville huge. The Cats will be facing one of the top tier defenses in the SEC, but also one of the worst offenses in the conference….aka a mirror image of themselves. The Bulldogs have had a difficult time this season and the momentum from the bowl bid last year has not carried on. The line at this point has the Cats getting three points, meaning that to the folks in Vegas, this is a tossup. I like the Cats chances, mainly because I like Rich Brooks in desperation mode….that and Randall Cobb is starting. I expect the Cats to win, likely by 6, 20-14.

After the football game, we start the excitement of basketball, as the Blue-White game hits Rupp Arena for the first time. While I always hesitate to get any meaning out of an inner squad scrimmage, this one might be slightly different. There is no doubt that at this point in the season, Kentucky’s defense is advanced over the majority of teams. The Cats are long, athletic and defense is its speciality. But what about on offense? Even in practice, it looked as if scoring was an issue, so I think this game can tell us how the UK offense will look against a strong defensive unit…..mainly its own. I want to see if anyone besides Jodie Meeks and Patrick Patterson can put the ball in the basket and who will step up and become a third scoring option. The game will be telling and I am excited to see it.

For those of you out of state, I will be LIVE BLOGGING THE GAME, with Bobby Perry in the arena and Beisner outside of it, so check in and follow the festivities.

Big day all around……get ready!
