A quick shout out to the UK women’s team, who managed to break a school record yet again on a day that I’m running the blog on a weekend. Last time it was on the defensive end with the record for steals, but today it was all offense as they connected on 14 treys to set a new school mark in a blowout win over Mississippi State in Memorial Coliseum. Keyla Snowden led the barrage from outside by hitting 4-of-6 threes and scoring 22 points. A’dia Mathies and Bria Goss hit three apiece and scored 20 and 13, respectively, in an 88-40 win which also set a school record for margin of victory in conference play.
The win moves the ladies to 3-0 in SEC play for the first time since 1992-93, and sets up a showdown that could go a long way in determining the outcome of the conference when they host the only SEC team ranked ahead of them, Tennessee, on Thursday night. Coach Mitchell’s squad has recovered nicely since losing its last non-conference game at Middle Tennessee State, and if they can maintain their unblemished home record with a win over UT they’ll be in the driver’s seat as far as the conference goes. They’re off to a hot start in SEC play and hopefully they’ll keep it going when the usually dominant Lady Vols come to town.
