Neal Brown Says Goodbye

Happy trails, Neal Brown!  The former Kentucky Offensive Coordinator has accepted a head coaching job at Troy, and took to twitter this evening to send his thanks to the Big Blue Nation.  Brown was the OC for the Wildcats for two seasons.  He wasted no time in overhauling his Twitter to be full Troy, from the color scheme to his handle.  Coach Brown has made the clean break with the BBN, but did acknowledge and thank the program on his way out the door.

Ugh… Great “fan”. Would you turn down more money and a promotion? Pretty classless.

Lol, he had one year left at UK at 550k and was offered 5 years at 700k, an offer Barnhart could not even get close to matching. No one in their right mind would refuse that deal….

I wish him the best of luck. He helped us to get better and it is a tremendous opportunity. You can’t fault someone for moving up.

There were a lot of questionable things with the offense later in the season. Some of it seemed to be an OC issue but most of it was on the QB. Towles held the ball way too long and he seemed to be more uncomfortable as the season progressed. He wasn’t very good at throwing a ball before the WR made the break. Once the WR made the break the pass wasn’t there and he was forced to run. Towels pulled the ball down way too much and ran as his first option. How many simple WR screens did he throw at the feet of his WR on Saturday for incompletions? 3-4? Those are simple throws and he couldn’t make them which tells you his state of mind. My guess is Barker will take his spot next year. I don’t think Towles has the confidence to play at this level. He has the arm, body, and athleticism, but not the head. I think Neal Brown and Stoops both realized it but weren’t going to burn a year of eligibility for Barker over it.

Congrats to Neal Brown and good luck at Troy. Who knows, in 5-6 years he might end up being the next UK head coach.
