Is Lynn Bowden trying to play quarterback?

With Stephen Johnson graduating this year, Kentucky’s quarterback situation for next year is up in the air.

Drew Barker is the favorite to start, but Gunnar Hoak has impressed in practice and the coaching staff has always liked Danny Clark. If Walker Wood can get healthy, it’s possible we see a four-man QB competition this offseason.

Tonight, UK true freshman Lynn Bowden went on Twitter and said he “should” get a shot at quarterback, but would “do whatever’s best for the team.”

When some fans expressed their doubts, Bowden laughed it off.

After seeing several impressive throws from the talented freshman this season, could we see Bowden take a stab at the starting QB competition next season? Randall Cobb V2?

The kid sure is electric with the ball in his hands…

What do you guys think?

Barker is NOT electric with the ball in his hands. He’s a qb sack waiting to happen. So I say why not give it a shot?

Well if not Hoak, yes then get him the ball!

Cats are gonna lock down Touchdown Terry this weekend. Terry, Bowden, and Snell running the triple option next year. Would be fun as hell to watch wouldn’t it?

    1. ClutchCargo

      Yes, sir, it sure would!

Would love to see that, but in order to run a true triple option Benny would need to be faster instead of being the bruiser he is. King or Rose would be a better fit in a triple option.

There are all kinds of variations on the triple option, so I think Benny would be just fine. If the defense has to guard against Terry or Bowden running with it, they can’t load up the box to stop Benny.

I think he could develop into a lamar Jackson type player

    1. east-ky-boy

      I agree

As much as Matt says he would be better in the slot on the outside. I disagree. What it lamar was a WR? Exactly, im cool if he stays on the outside but his potential on the next level will not be at QB. If we have a good selection of QBs then keep him in his current position. However he has played the position well in highschool. As elusive as he can be he could give defenses fits but i could see him theow a lot of picks. Putting him in at QB would make us dangerous especially with Snell we could run our own version of a triple option. Stoops wont do it though.

Whatever gives us the best chance of winning

I said this two months ago. At least giving him a shot in practice is a no-brainer. The coaching staff has really struggled getting the ball in his hands in productive situations. The Wildcat with Bowden feels more dangerous than the Wildcat with Benny because of the option of throwing. Why wouldn’t we want that on every play? Do we really want the ball in Barker or Hoak’s hands instead of the most talented player on the roster?

Slot receiver, my ass. No one’s filling up the stat sheet from the slot without an ELITE quarterback that can hit all the timing routes.

I’m hoping Wilson comes in likes what he sees and hears and decides to come to Lexington I think that’s 5 qb’s on the team with Bowden also we got a running back with back to back 1000 yrds. rushing seasons we got some big receivers returning and some coming in what I’m concerned with is that O line getting straightened out

  8. TBW3011

No. He needs the ball A LOT more though.

Impressive throws? What…..all three of ’em of which one was picked. Another had too much air, receiver had to wait on it, and cost us a score. Never saw him throw a rope.
I’m confident the QBs we have currently on the depth chart can produce at least the numbers S. Johnson did (which is not a high mark).

Yes!!! Especially if we don’t land the JUCO kid.

We have all these damn QBs. Barker, Hoak, Clarke. You’re going to have a WR play QB. What you’re saying is Stoops sucks at QB recruiting and development so bad, a WR might play.

“We?” Put your phone down before the teacher sees that you’re trolling on KSR during class.

I bet you are a 40 year old virgin still living at home with mommy and eating Cheetos while trolling ksr with a Harry Potter t shirt and have a major overbite!

Hard to believe we have 4 QBs to compete for the spot currently, are actively recruiting several additional options AND you’re suggesting giving our most dangerous receiver/returner/wildcat a look?

Bowden needs to stay where he is – he’s much more dangerous at QB as an unexpected wildcat than having the job permanently giving opposing defenses the chance to plan for him – this is the SEC, those defenses see and scheme for players with much more talent than Bowden every week.

I’m excited to see if Hoak can step up. He’s got the size and seemed to impress in the Blue/White game on both sides (blue & white).

Let Bowden continue to be a legitimate return threat, dangerous receiver and “wildcard” defenses have a tough time planning for

Hoak is the best Qb we have.I really don’t understand how he wasn’t the backup this year

Hope we don’t waste a year on Barker.
