Good News for Gerald Fitch
by Matt Jones on December 13, 2005 at 11:48 pm

The Heat’s hiring of Pat Riley may have been good news for a number of Heat fans and players, but likely no one will be benefited more than the Cats’ own Gerald Fitch. For those of you that remember, Riley is the reason that Fitch is in the NBA, spotting him during his time at UK and bringing him in this offseason, even as Gerald had an injury. Fitch had made the rotation and in tonight’s first game with Riley as coach, he played 21 minutes.

Obviously things can change over time, but like Tubby Smith, Pat Riley is a huge fan of the type of player that Gerald Fitch is….one that is defensive oriented, plays within the structure of the team and is a solid rebounder. Watch out for Gerald as the season continues, as he makes yet another Tubby Smith player who has created an NBA career for himself out of hard work and perseverance.

Looks like he did not forget how to rebound. Five in 21 minutes last night.
If he does that and plays defense, he will get playing time for Riley
even if he shoots 1 for 5 like last night. Way to go Jurld!
