Choose Your Own Adventure’s Saturday Morning Links

Who chose to run through that man's afro?

Anybody remember these? If you played your cards right, you could complete a story arc in five pages. What a great feeling. Two teams playing at roughly the same time today. Choose who you follow.

Basketball

On CoachCal.com, Ken Howlett gives you UK and Penn State by the numbers. Lots of percentages, decimals and the like.

– Kentucky has started the season off great, while UCLA has made a strong case to be considered the worst team in the nation. SB Nation asks what Shabazz Muhammad might think of the stark contrast in starts. I’ll say this much, he’s not often tweeting about the Bruins.

– While Coach Cal was making the circuit in Bristol, Darius Miller stopped to talk with Andy Katz, who wrote about how perfectly the senior fits his role on the team. For the past three seasons, Darius Miller has been touted as this team’s “X-Factor”. In a slightly limited capacity, is this the year that serves true?

– Finally, here’s a Penn State preview from the Nittany Lions’ perspective. You get the feeling that they don’t expect to win this game.

Football

– Rich Brooks is leaving the state of Kentucky and WKYT talked to coach about his time in the Bluegrass State. Brooks lived here for nine years before deciding to return to Oregon full time with his wife. KSR has already started efforts to have his tomato garden declared a state landmark.

Edward Aschoff from the SEC blog at ESPN talked with Joker Phillips about how the season has unfolded. Phillips said that despite the record, he is still proud of the team. No comment.

Mr. SEC hypothesizes what it would be like if James Franklin was in Lexington as the coach of the Wildcats next season. The story also includes the ballsy prediction that with Franklin at the helm, UK would make it to Atlanta by 2014. I think he means that the football players would go to support the basketball team in the SEC tournament, but I could be wrong.

– Last but not least, former head coach at LaGrange High and current assistant coach at UK, Steve Pardue, returns today to his old stomping grounds. Pardue is a big reason that the Cats have so many players from Georgia on the roster and this game will be a homecoming of sorts for him and the players he sent to UK.

  2. CatGrad7072

I’d bet that the only thing UGA has been working on this week is getting their SECE championship goods to market.

I guess Urban Meyer has spent enough time with his family, Sports by Brooks says he is going to be head coach at Ohio St. next year.

  6. MikeInLexington

Guess Urban doesnt want to win any more titles then since he cant change the weather in Ohio or how bad of a football conference the big 10 is.

  7. MikeInLexington

ESPN3 not offering Insight as a choice to get ESPN3, wtf???? Time Warner bought them but it doesnt say Lexington zips are part of Time Warner. What a clusterf***. I blame Matt Jones and George Bush.

At least they give Cal credit for all his wins.

#9 Speaking of “a Penn State preview from the Nittany Lions’ perspective.”

Anyone else notice this at this link: http://www.gopsusports.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/111711aac.html

    TELEVISION: ESPN3.com (on-line); Mike Crispino
RADIO: Penn State Sports Network Local: 1450 AM; Loren Crispell
“the last meeting when Penn State stunned the then No. 21 ranked Wildcats in Rupp Arena behind huge games from brothers Joe and Jon Crispin”

What the hell is with Penn State basketball, UK and “Crisp”? Did Terrence Jones eat Cookie Crisp for breakfast today?

    7) It has nothing to do with Time Warner. Insight has offered ESPN since before then. You have to go to Insight’s website and click on the ESPN3 link on the left. You can’t do it from ESPN3’s website anymore for some reason. If you’re an Insight customer, you should have gotten an email about this.

  12. Another note

I didn’t know Georgia had a football game today

  13. RidgeRunner

11…Always like your comments (by the way).

But damn what a logistical mess with the Insight / ESPN3 debacle. Good God. Glad I am not an insight customer.

  14. RidgeRunner

Almost time for Wildcat Warmup! Oh, nevermind…..:(

  15. make-a-swish foundation

Anyone know the radio coverage for both games (in louisville)

  16. RidgeRunner

Living in GA, I have to watch ESPN3 because there is no replay of the game at 7pm tonight here. This region is showing live-football. dang it.

  17. kentuckygentleman

I have Insight and have no problem accessing ESPN3, that’s how I watch a lot of the UK games anyway. Just go to http://www.espn.com and click to college basketball, to schedule and to the game, it should come up.

  18. Lovely

I think A Tale of Two Cities would have been a better choice than Choose Your Own Adventure. “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” and all that.

  19. Right turn Clyde

What channel is basketball replay on tonight in NKY?

  20. uksmokey

I loved the Choose Your Own Adventure series of books, thanks for the fun reminder…
