Today on the KSR Radio show, Matt Jones talked about a podcast he listened to that featured ESPN’s Chad Ford. During the podcast, Ford discussed the upcoming year in college basketball. Ford made some very bold statements, many of which pertained to Kentucky. Ford referred to this year’s Kentucky basketball team as a “super team.” In fact, Ford went as far as to say that this Kentucky team is 1 of the 3 largest groups of talent in the history of college basketball. The only thing keeping this team from being THE hands down best collection of talent ever assembled is the fact that Andrew Wiggins picked Kansas.
With all of that said, Ford said the trouble for Kentucky could be that this just might be one of the best years ever in college basketball across the board. It will certainly be one of the best in recent memory. Across the country there will be a number of great teams with great returning players. Players like Marcus Smart chose to stay another year in college basketball. The “blue blood” teams appear to all be back in true form after somewhat of a hiatus last season.
Ford believes that a handful of teams this year would have won the national championship had they played last year. He believes that at least 5 teams would have likely been at least slightly better than the Louisville team that won. Ford listed Kentucky, Michigan State, Duke, Arizona and even this year’s Louisville team as teams that could have won last year.
The 2013-2014 men’s college basketball season promises to be a great one. It could be one of the best seasons in college basketball history… and Kentucky will be the team to beat.
