Keep on talking about Kentucky’s incoming freshmen class of Anthony Davis, Marquis Teague, Kyle Wiltjer and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist – they’re all going to be stars. And yeah, Terrence Jones is one of the best sophomores in all of basketball. This you know. But guess who Calipari said is the best basketball player on the team? Doron “Three Goggles” Lamb.
When asked where Doron Lamb will fit into the rotation this season, Calipari told ESPN’s Andy Katz that Doron is the best basketball player on the team. “He has a great feel for the game and it showed against Connecticut,” Calipari said. “In my opinion, he’s going to be one of the top-15 players in the country.”
Lamb could end up in that sixth man role again this season for Kentucky, so if he really is what Calipari says he is, Kentucky’s competition should be terrified. This team is already going to be a force on defense, so a scorer like Lamb could be a lethal combo. We’ve already seen flashes of greatness from Doron (freshman single game record) and Coach Cal said he has worked hard on his ball handling and matured this summer. Put it this way – he’s always had an elite set of offensive tools, and now he’s sharpening them.
Whether Lamb’s coming off the bench or starting at the 2 next to Marquis Teague, we could be watching an absolute beast of a scorer next season.
November 15th can’t get here soon enough.
