Bobby Petrino’s Father Says Petrino is Interested in Kentucky

You knew it was only a matter of time…and here it is. Bobby Petrino tells the Courier Journal that his son is interested in the UK job. He said:

“I know he wants a job; he needs a job,” Petrino Sr. said by telephone Wednesday. “He told me, ‘I need a job, Dad.’ I said, ‘Well, you must still have some money. You made 31/2 million dollars.’ And he said, ‘Yeah, I do. It’s not the money.’ He just misses coaching so much.”

“I just know this, that he’s interested in Kentucky,” the father said. “He wants to stay in the SEC. That was his life’s goal was to go to the SEC.”

That should keep the airwaves and message boards churning…

  1. Seriously

Hire him tonight. Why is this even in discussion?

  2. What Idiots

DESPITE WHAT MATT JONES SAYS Mitch should suck it up and hire Petrino…He is a proven winner.

  3. Bob Loblaw

This speaks for itself. You gotta at least look into it

  4. thegovernorofky

Please no. I want to win WITHOUT headaches.

  5. J.P. Wilson

He needs to be at least interviewed. Hiring Petrino would terrify our little bro down the road.

  6. Not Petrino

You know this means us UK fans would have to give up our Karen Sypher jokes, right?

  7. Home run Hire

Mitch is in a corner now, and has to make the hire. If he goes with the 2nd and third tier dykes or brown he should be fired on the spot. This is a home run hire. Chain him down with his contract where he can’t pull any stunt like the past. This is a no brainier and if Mitch fails he looks stupid and the nation will laugh. Petrino will get butts in the seats and excitement back. Don’t let us down Mitch. Dykes and Neil brown are 2nd an third tier.

  8. Not Matt Jones

Hire him now. We will love him after we win. All is forgiven.

  9. Rixter

This is a complete no-brainer, which means there is ZERO chance it happens.

Look, Petrino is not only THE BEST coach available, but we don’t have to wait on anything to hire him.. he’s available immediately. He can help Joker clean his desk out.

  10. AnyoneButPetrino

    #2 – He’s also a proven liar.

@4 I just want to see the football program win. I want them to win at all cost.

  12. Kneel

worst loyalty/morals in the game, but the dude wins. so what if he leaves us in a bad situation? it couldnt get much worse than it is now!

  13. Slappy

Get it done, Mitch. Find a freaking way. Ego to the side. Do it.

  14. chad

    Hire him

  15. snarkster

I think there’s a chance that his problems at Arkansas might have taken some of the wind out of his sails and taught him some humility. I think he knows he lost a lot and may be very appreciative of another opportunity. I hope Mitch gives him an interview and decides for himself how the risk/reward ratio stacks up and if he’s worth an opportunity.

  16. Keith Myath

The inevitable hiring of Petrino is like watching a car crash in slow-motion and knowing there is nothing you can do anymore to stop it.

  17. Fact

Petrino will win. With dykes we will be back to this position in 5 years. Why would you want to play against Petrino?

  18. Yo Believeo

This is the home run hire UK football needs. Forget his reputation, just go for it. He is easily the best coach available. C’mon Mitch you got a perfect hire with Cal, do it again for football this time.

  19. Hire him

  20. Jessdogky

Mmmmmmmm…very interesting. WWWIII might have just begun amongst our fan base.

  21. Backspacer

I saw him and Mitch Barnhart at Middlesboro Cracker Barrel tonight…

  22. popcorn

this will be great fun to watch and puts Mitch in a terrible spot…

  23. JAMES

Hire him. No, seriously, Mitch —> HIRE HIM.

  24. Janet Jackson's Boob

Why has this hiring not already been announced???

  25. DB11

    Oh god why…

  26. LexCathCat

I think Mitch now owes it to fans clamoring for Petrino to give him an interview. Even if he knows he won’t hire him, it will at least appear as an act of good will to both Petrino and all of the BBN.

  27. AnyoneButPetrino

Not only is he a liar, but he has shown nothing but disrespect to Kentucky. Go to Card Chronicle and see the things he said about UK and how he ran up the score against us. He just thinks he can treat our school like crap, then come crawling in begging us for a job? I say screw him.

  28. Logic

Do you really think Mitch wants to work with Cal and Petrino on a daily basis?

  29. Bluener

Of course he is interested in the job….who wouldnt want a few million in a year to coach a team that doesnt have the goal of winning right away in 1st year on the job? Everyone knows itll take at least a year or two before results are shown so why wouldnt Petrino or any out of work coach want to come here and make $2-4mill a year

  30. Rixter

    1. he’s a great coach, no arguing that

    2. he is bound to be a very humble man right now

    3. his hire will drive little brother INSANE!!

  31. Duuuuuude

Despite what you all believe, yes, it can actually get worse. It can get a lot worse.

  32. carrico

god, help us. not this guy, please!

  33. popcorn

Does UK value winning more than dignity and morals?

@28 Mitch just needs to shutup and pay the coaches. I could care less about how mitch feels.

  35. Houston Wildcat

    NO WAY

  36. BlueTexan

HEY! Old man! Put a cork in it…surely, Barnfart isn’t that dumb! Oh, sorry…he IS that dumb (BCG) and, sadly, continues to prove it…DITCH MITCH (our ONLY chance to turn this program around).

  37. E Cat

As a UK alum, I’d be very disappointed if UK even interviewed Petrino. He is a train wreck and a bad person. I hope he changes as a person and gets a chance somewhere, just not here. Winning the way he operates just isn’t worth it to me. He doesn’t have the values you want to see for the college atmosphere. Plus, you could not trust him to stay more than a couple of seasons anyway. Tom Jurich showed he was win-at-all-costs putting up with him. I expect more from UK.

  38. carlos santitas

hate to dismiss joker.. a dude that is all things uk, a gentleman.. and did things the right way.. and replace him with a dick, but. let’s do this. maybe he has changed.. tbd

  39. Bobby and Pops
  40. Rixter

27, the list of guys who have run the score up on Kentucky is a long one. That’s the point: WE want to be the guys running up the score!!

  41. NateCAT

In the immortal words of Nike.

    Just do it.

  42. Omg omg omg

    Call him now Mitch pleeeaaase.

  43. RealUKfan

@33 As a fan Hell Yes! Does the UK administration idk, but all they should care about is the wins baby.

  44. Hal

wow. the game’s done changed. bobby’s forcing mitch’s hand.
    s*** just got real.

  45. AmIMissingSomething

#33 What the hell does morals have to do with college football in the SEC? I go to church on Sundays, on Saturdays I want to be entertained with winning football.

  46. BlueTexan

    #27- AMEN!

  47. alex

If not Kirby Smart, I want either Petrino or Tressel. I think those three are the only realistic home runs that UK could get..

  48. thewaitfor8

#28 didn’t Mitch hire a middle man to deal with Cal originally or still possibly? Do the same with Petrino.

We aren’t in a position to be picky here. If Petrino gets us to 8 reg season wins, then who cares if he is an a-hole?

  49. Breal1515

    Get his a$$ here ASAP

  50. Rixter

37, UK football has a Who’s Who of ‘nice guys’ who have lead our team, from Joker to Curry to Claiborne.

What we don’t have is a who’s who of coaches who have WON.

  51. bradyjames

It would be an instant sell out at Commonwealth when season tickets go on sale.

Mitch has a chance to hire Calipari and Petrino.

Just praying Mitch can find a way to get him to Lexington.

  52. Korean Tacos

Maybe the near death/vehicular homicide experience made him a changed man.

  53. D-Line

Petrino is exactly what we need to turn things around. He’s a proven winner and he’ll get folks. Back in the seats and we will for once be a contender in the SEC. HIRE PETRINO!!!!!

  54. Brad

I say give him a shot. Write in a no compete in contract with SEC schools and I think he will do good things for our program. He Knows his stuff when it comes to football.

  55. Bigcat1990

Saw Mitch and Bobby at Trixies tonight . Seemed to be having good time. When he was leaving he saw me wearing my UK sweatshirt an he said Go Cats an see ya soon.

  56. Breal15

BP has interest and we are looking currently looking at Fat Phil and other retreads

  57. AdamB

Do not hire this man. The idiots who make the comparison to Cal don’t understand the difference between arbitrary NCAA rules and actual morals.

This man is not a good person. He is a bad man. He does what is best for him and only him. We do not need that here. There are other coaches that can win and not be total assholes in between. If UK hires this man I will not watch UK football as long as he is here. And if you think I’m some sort of religious crazy who thinks he is immoral for his affairs, not even close.

  58. reedwizard

Geez, how could you not offer him a contract that has no buy out and favors UK with full compliance in whatever UK has concerns about? I think he would take it and we hold most, if not, all of the cards. He is the only home run hire out there unless you get Nick Saban, which is never happening.

As for what he said about UL, he was RIGHT! He should run it up on us, they all should. We suck, have sucked and will continue to suck with another retred coach or coordinator. A coordinator is not going to have the pull to get the bigger name recruits here, but Petrino will. He needs us to build his resume and we need him to build up the program and win. This is a win-win.

  59. popcorn

    45 answered the question

  60. Rixter

Come on, Haters. What’s more moral and christian than forgiveness? A second chance?

  61. Jon

    Get it trending BBN!!

  62. Owen

I don’t know why we’re having a discussion about hiring a guy who is a liar, cheater and generally seems like an actual bad person. I don’t care if he wins football games–those are just football games.. He doesn’t deserve another job and I would be extremely disappointed if he were hired here. There are plenty of coaches out there who are just as good, if not better and who would equally love the chance to coach at an SEC school. Let’s find one of them.

  63. E Cat

    50. Brooks won and did very well (by UK standards). Never embarrassed the university either. Petrino is the modern day Jackie Sherrill. Extreme lack of character and his long-term problems have been bigger than his short-term gains everywhere he has coached.

  64. Yab

Ha!, Jones you’re all out of excuses for not talking about Petrino now. It’s time to force Mitch’s hand.

  65. Government Fromage

Petrino is a scumbag who will jump ship from UK as soon as he can if he is hired. We will be back to square one in 3 years with either a scandal or NCAA violations facing our University.

  66. The Blue Goose

No. One coach cheating on his wife is enough for the state of KY.

  67. JAMES

#37 As another UK Alum’ (’01), GFY. You hire Petrino, and you do it fairly quickly. The guy who said “what do morals have to do with SEC football” nailed it. This isn’t GD church. We are Kentucky Football. It’s now, or (likely) never.

  68. Rixter

    Thank you, 56:
“BP has interest and we are looking currently looking at Fat Phil and other retreads?”

ONLY Kentucky football could screw this up

  69. DB11

Have you no shame? Have you no dignity? Have you no morals? This shall not stand, only a fool would hire him.

  70. Leverage

UK is getting used, the guy is basically telling those other
open SEC jobs, You’re either with me or against me.

  71. BoomKentucky

i rather have Joker than this fool. I would never go to a UK game again if he is hired.

  72. KYStout

Commonwealth would sell out every game and we would probably be bowl eligible next season with this hire. Look at how much buzz a little quote from hi dad has created…

  73. Cur dog

Bring in Petrino!!!!! This post at least got my blood pumping!!!

  74. Darnell Dodson's Blunt

Louisville hired Pitino before the world knew he cheated on his wife. Kentucky hires a guy that left a job in the middle of the night, illegally hired a 25 year old and then had sex with her. LOLOL

Cal and Petrino; real stand up guys you have running the show.

  75. OwenSucks

#62 “those are just football games”, yes, and we have won exactly one this year. I for one would like to add a few to that. He can wreck his motorcycle all over the damn state for all I care as long as he WINS GAMES!

  76. True Story

Petrino is the most ‘proven’ coach available, but not necessarily the best. I don’t think he’s ever been in troublw with the NCAA though, so 65, you’re wrong. Sonny Dykes is the next Petrino sans the baggage. Just sayin’.

Hey, the dude has been through hell. Maybe he’s looking to find some integrity? All for second chances. Bring him or Dykes in. We’ll win either way.

  77. Rixter

66, that’s 2 coaches cheating on their wives if you count Joker

  78. Free Beer

Fact is, Petrino was the rockstar at Arkansas. But no matter how much he (potentially) wins at Kentucky, he will always be in Cal’s shadow as far as rockstar coaches go. Not being the center piece of the university should humble him. An interview at the very least is pivotal for our programs future.

  79. Bob Loblaw

I want a coach that will run up the score. We are hiring a football coach. Not town pastor. Whatever he does off the field (so long as it’s not illegal or an NCAA violation) is none of our business. You people complaining about his missteps and lack of personal morals need to get over your self-righteousness.

  80. Bluebear

57)glad you can take a stand. The rest of us will watch uk football compete for an sec title as long as he is here.

  81. Rixter

71, as soon as we hit 6 – 0, you’ll be outside the stadium begging for a ticket

  82. Yab

    78) Petrino will be as popular as Cal.

  83. E Cat

    67. Show some class. Expect more from a fellow alum. That’s the type of language/attitude I’d expect from someone like Petrino.

  84. Rixter

How much you want to bet that ALL the negative posts are Cardinal fans who are crapping their pants??

  85. SeoulCat

Mitch, you hire this man yesterday. If Petrino is interested, you take him. Swallow your pride and keep your personal convictions, whatever those may be, just that–personal. BBN wants Petrino. Our football program NEEDS Petrino. There is not another man out there who will win like this guy, so get it done. NOW.

  86. popcorn

79– the nepotism in hiring his honey broke the law and invited shame on the University

  87. Sladet87

I’m loyal as can be to UK football. Was there saturday and stayed until the very bitter end. That being said, if Mitch hires Petrino, i don’t know if I’ll go to a game next year. This isn’t someone people “whisper” about without evidence like calipari. This is a man with a known disrespect for anyone he works for. Besides cheating on his wife (putting him on pitino’s level) he hired that girl for a job at arkansas. No respect for the AD there. Heck, he didn’t even respect Jurich at UofL and ran circles around him interviewing for other jobs. We need someone with an ounce of integrity and he doesn’t have one bit of it.

  88. Dorian54

OMG!!! YES!!!! We have to hire him!! so what if he’s uofl’s old coach, Petrino is proven and can take us somewhere we’ve never been before in football!! I can see it now we’d actually for once would something to say in the SEC….. #PETRINO!!!!

  89. 3cats

    # 74 REALLY…….? Stand up guy! I will give you 15 sec to change you mind on your post. Rick cheated ans is still employed by UL.

  90. SeoulCat

    #83, get over yourself.

  91. Free Beer

Never, Yab. This is a basketball state with banners.

  92. KYStout

78 I got news for you: If Bobby Petrino put UK in the SEC Championship he wouldn’t be in anyone’s shadow, not even Cal’s.

There is plenty of room for both.

  93. Bob Loblaw

If he broke the law, then why has he not been charged?
He violated policy, which could subject Arkansas to a lawsuit, aka not a crime. So long as he is not facing legal consequences (pending lawsuit), the Mitch has to pull the trigger. However, if there is something looming, then of course, don’t hire him

  94. Rixter

I’m tickled to hear that all the pastors will be giving up their tickets. That makes it easier for the rest of us to get in and watch some kick-a*s football!

  95. John Ellis

    Better to bring back Joker.

  96. Rixter

When is the last time a Wednesday night football blog got over 100 replies?

Look at the excitement he’s already created!

  97. Will

We hired Calipari with Memphis just about to get the news they were vacating a FF. Yeah Cal wasn’t implicated but its still baggage and that was with the program he coached. Petrino has baggage but its more his personal life and I definitely see where he might have learned a lesson from his mistakes at Arkansas. If we don’t hire him, UT or Auburn most certainly will interview/hire him and IMHO Mitch Barnhart should bare the repercussions of passing on him for 2nd or 3rd tier hires that don’t work out nearly as well.

    Just do the interview Mitch.

  98. Catlanta

I grew up in Lex and bleed blue, but now live in ATL and have Falcons season tix.

He RUINED the falcons and left mid season. I can’t watch the football team if he is the coach.

  99. Jen

Calism: BOUNCE BACK! Petrino can bounce back and may can get us to a SEC Championship game! I would love to see him coach Patrick Towles!

  100. UKBlue

This might be a stupid question: any chance after all the crap this idiot has caused, he has somehow gotten humbled along the way?

  101. Breal1515

When UT or AU hire this guy and we end up with hiring another Dooley, he will be handing our a$$ to us year after year, then everyone can say what might have been?

  102. Ga

As a Falcons fan I don’t give a s@#t that petrino left the Falcons cause were better off without him. BUT I want him coaching the football team. If Louisville can hire Pitino, Kentucky can Petrino. JUST DO IT

  103. OwensboroDavid

Matt, take that pic off there. Just because you don’t want him, don’t mean the rest of us don’t. I know this is your site and you have every right to post any pic you please. You know it’s a slight to Petrino because you don’t like him. Give him a fair shake. Your a good democrat. Doesn’t everyone deserve a chance for redemption?

  104. Rixter

How could he NOT be more humble? Do you think he doesn’t know what people say about him? Do you think he doesn’t know he’s running out of chances?

  105. Yessir

UK should’ve hired him Monday morning but UK will find a way to screw this up and hire someone else, it’s inevitable. No one will care about his character or what he’s done when he’s winning football games

  106. JAMES

83, you have the attitude of someone I’d expect to readily accept a losing football program, based on some irrelevant personal sense of self-dignity and / or projected judgement. Pretty liberal of you. But, thanks for your help in allowing Mitch to hire a limpdick, we all appreciate it.

  107. Yab

    90) get a clue. We took 40,000 people to the Outbck Bowl. The love of football is far stronger in Kentucky than most want to admit. The truth is this State will explode when this guy is hired.

  108. popcorn

    100 — no chance

  109. Harold

We just need a coach that is going to win. If Bobby rides his motorcycle home naked after the games with 3 chicks on back I don’t care. I’m not religious and I could care less about his personal life, as long as he doesnt do anything illegal. The people on here saying you won’t go to the game if he’s hired, no one even goes to the games now! Joker is a great guy but wins put butts in the seats, not stand up guys!

  110. Really?

We are not hiring a pastor for your Baptist church. This is a FOOTBALL coach. A Danny’s good one at that. Get your morals from another aspect of life.

  111. Cannon

Time to get the ball rolling with this hire. Why settle for less and piss off our fans even more then we already are? This would by far be the popular choice amongst fans. Wins fix everything here is our chance.

  112. evan howard

interview this man! we would be in the top half of the SEC each year after not long at all

  113. Rixter

106, didn’t you know? Liberals accept all people, black and white and Latino, gays and straights, vegans and carnivores.
What? He made a mistake? Get him out of here! We only accept sinless, mistake-free blacks and whites and Latinos, gays and straights, vegans and carnivores

  114. Cannon

Plus if we don’t hire him he will just be kicking our ass at another sec school. Lets make the logical choice here for once please!

  115. Rixter

111, WDRB in Louisville did a poll LAST WEEK, and Petrino out-polled Dykes (in second place) almost 3 to 1

  116. Tommy

Just hire the man Mitch, forgiveness and redemption are the cornerstone of the Bible, write a UK protective, restrictive contract, offer him the job, and then smile when 70k crowds and 8 win seasons follow.

  117. Scotty Sharp

To say Petrino is tougher to work with than BCG is a ludicrous statement, which I believe I heard on the radio today. Billy Clyde is an alcoholic; Petrino is not. Bobby isn’t the type that’s going to smile and say hello as he passes a colleague on campus. He’s not going to say please or thank you, ask you how your day is going or how beautiful it is outside. And he sure as hell isn’t going to coddle anyone, whether you’re a player, colleague or member of the media. The way he left the Falcons was shady, but Mitch seems to be in favor of writing letters in similar instances. I don’t blame Bobby for the way he left Atlanta – the NFL is a business chock full of prima donnas. They don’t call it the Not-For-Long league for nothing. And yes, Bobby will go after some younger (of age) biscuit when the opportunity presents itself. He has an open relationship with his wife and the man has a penis. Get over it. We need a guy who knows his X’s and O’s and is a proven winner. If Bobby is truly interested, he’s a no-brainer hire.

  118. Rixter

What will Mitch’s legacy be if he hires Petrino, and he behaves like a loyal boy scout, and wins big…. then Cal adds several more banners to the rafters? We’ll someday be playing football in Mitch Barnhart Stadium

  119. Uk3k

They guy will win, but he will jump ship the first chance he gets. He has no loyalty, although wins without loyalty sound better than no wins.

  120. Rixter

Not if it’s written into his contact that he owes the University 8 – 10 mil if he leaves early for another job

  121. Billy

Um, it’s a no brainer, hire him at this exact instant. Forget his past. UK needs someone that is going to win, forget a nice guy that gets us 1-7…

  122. Breal15

Mitch passed on Cal the first time,we see how that worked out, was damn lucky to get a second chance, seems he didn’t learn from his first screw up

  123. JV

This puts Mitch in a horrible spot and I love it. Any other hire now will just cause more division among the fanbase.

  124. Billy Clyde

Billy Clyde here and I want #Petrino2UK

  125. KYMOJO

At first I stated I would be against the hiring of Petrino. But, I read a post about how all of this trouble he’s caused in his life was definitely (or should be) humbling for him. I realized this was a very true view of Bobby Petrino. He has made some horrible choices thus far in life. Maybe he is indeed a humble man now. Combine that with his coaching abilities and he could be just what UK has needed. Anyway, I wouldn’t be against the hire provided the contract protected UK first and foremost!

  126. westerncat

    Hire him now, don’t wait.

  127. chad b

  128. hoof hearted

remember the t shirts “got pition?” when the dirty cards hired him?? i can already see the “got petrino?” shirts now lol

  129. hoof hearted

    pitino**was a typo

  130. Horsepower

Yes! Tie him down in the contract and hire him immediately!

  131. Contract Schmontract

No smart coach is gonna sign some contract handcuffing himself. Most of you seem to believe hiring Petrino, UK would have him on the ropes. The truth is UK is the one on the ropes and thats why Petrino called Kentucky out.

  132. Scotty Sharp

Max Smith would throw for a zillion yards next year under Petrino. And our four young wideouts – Sweat, Legree, Robinson and Collins – would all flourish and form the best WR corps in the SEC.

  133. No choice now

The story about his interest is now on ESPNs main page. If we don’t hire him now the entire world will laugh and mock us

  134. Seabass90

I have some insight on this topic that may interest you. But I work at a small restaurant downtown and about a week or two ago bobby was in there eating. They ate in a private room he was with some boosters and someone from the athletic program. They were talking numbers but every time I or a coworker would walk into the room they would stop talking or change subject. But from what I saw they were discussing possible contract numbers. Sure hope they worked something out he would be a great coach!

  135. Chris MM

Bledsoe had 15 and 5 in 22 minutes tonight. Please trade him so he can get the minutes he deserves.

  136. Bobby Petrino

All you have to do Mitch is pick up the phone and ask. Come on Mitch you will be 100% redeemed with the football fanbase and excite Kentucky football like never before. It’s up to you now and your legacy and career also hang on this hire. So do the smart and easy thing and make the call! We as fans promise to pack the stands buy UK football merchandise….you name it. This is it Mitch, this is your shot.

  137. W

Hire him! proven winner in the SEC seeking redemption, can recruit with the best of them, would make Louisville mad to no end. Sounds like a slam dunk to me! Matt needs to stop letting personal biased get in the way. The man can coach.

  138. Breal15

Mitch is so fu€k£d, if he passes on BP, then we hire a Derek Dooley or a retread, BP goes to Auburn and hands us our a$$ for years to come, his name will be mud

  139. Catlogic15

#103. You said it more nicely than I. Continued use of this picture shows extreme bias by this left wing-controlled site. There will never be a neutral or unbiased representation of free-thinking on this site. They will tolerate thoughts of redundants, revisionists, and fools; but will always lead with and support their specific agenda. KSR is fun; like blowing bubbles or an Easter Egg hunt. But you will never get unbiased.

  140. Ibescootch

Initially, I thought this smells like the buzz surrounding Cal’s hiring, with him having a questionable history and all. But I don’t think it is. UK needed someone that would win. Point blank, period. The difference is, the basketball program really was a desirable job to most coaches in the country, and we probably could have gotten anyone. Football, on the other hand, is not desirable in the least. I say get Petrino in here, give him a chance, and it may pay off. We do know he can win. If he can bring UK Football up to a pedestal where it’s at least a good looking job and a respectable program, who cares if he leaves? At that point, we’ll have plenty more options…

  141. W in Chester

Yes, I want a proven winner here for Football and stop with the coaching experiments which always make us the laughing stock in all of college football. I just wonder though is BP only trying to pull on another SEC school to make an offer and playing UK like a fiddle.

  142. Burger

  143. Burger

    HIRE HIM NOW!!!!!

  144. Burger

Either we want to win, or we are just misguided.

    Your choice Barnhart.

  145. muff diver

I sorta cooled off on Petrino because I thought that there was no way in Hell we would land him. But after reading the article on the courier journal, I think it’s in the best interest of the program to at least talk to the guy. We’re talking about a coach who could win us 8-10 games every season with a possibility of 11. Couple this coach with the 100-150 million dollar bonding we may getting next year, and our football program is looking SOLID. It’s a no-brainer to me, but unfortunately it’s not my call. Opportunities like this don’t come around for UK football very often.

  146. Steve

If Mitch does not at the very least talk to him, I will NEVER forgive him!

  147. Burger

    Bobby Petrino…

This guys been an NFL coach. It’s exactly what we need…

    He wins everywhere.

What’d he do wrong? He had eyes for a hot blonde. Let us all bow our heads in remorse.

  148. Burger

Can you say SUGAR, & COTTON, ORANGE? Bobby Petrino can. He’s been to all 3 in the past 6 years.

  149. corn

Yes, Offer him $3.5/year and watch the cash roll in to this university. Season tickets would sell out again and fans would be excited. Sure, he is a prick and a liar but the guy knows how to coach and win games. He would be the closest thing to “Cal” on the gridiron as we can get so it’s stupid not to take him or at the least talk with him.

  150. corn

UL fans would shit their britches if we hired Petrino and Strong bolted for Arky. Man, that is worth the hire just to see and read their reactions.

  151. burger

Kentucky can’t get a 5 star coach. This is our only shot… and the guy is interested.

Bobby Petrino is a 5 star coach with 5 star stats (NFL head coaching experience, SEC winning experience, SEC recruiting pipelines already planted, the ability to turn around programs at all levels)

None of the others that would consider Kentucky are even 4 star.

Kentucky fans deserve some winning years. Barnhart has about 5 seconds to make this happen.

  152. burger

He likes pretty blondes. If that’s what we have to worry about then I say there’s something finally right in the world.

  153. bleedblue10 The guy in the interview is a sincere guy…..I say give that man a second chance to prove himself! Hire Petrino

  154. yep

Mitch should hire him but make him prove that he has learn his lesson, Winning is great, but I wonder how this guy would be with the fans? We want to win, but I think we all like a friendly coach, one who will take pics with you and make the fans feel important. Don’t get me wrong, I would take him. You just gotta make sure the guy is not another Gillispie, saying he has learn his lesson and keeps screwing up and treating people and players like crap. JMO

  155. burger

    #154 – yep – Learn his lesson??

“Bobby, we don’t want you having any more thoughts about legal young blondes ok?”

Give everybody a break. There’s nothing to learn here.

He jacked his marriage and his job (losing over 21 million in his Ark contract).

It wasn’t even the act that got him fired, it was that he tried to cover it up (as everyone else would have done – considering it was far worse for his wife to find out than the University).

It wasn’t even a fire-able offense. Even the ARK AD said it.

Hire Petrino now, bring a sane man to Lexington. UK Football fans have paid their dues. We deserve to see what can be accomplished in Commonwealth.

We’ve waited 50 years for this hire

  156. Nato45

I was anti petrino. BCG comparisons and all on personal relationships . But u know what if Clyde some how was able to win big he probably would still be here. Universities are able to over look a lot (see IU and Bobby knight) on the a$$ side of things if u are a winner. I say offer the guy, get some moral and conduct clauses in contract and let’s roll. Like hot blondes, there will always be hot coordinators. Give it a shot. Tired of being second fiddle nice guys.

  157. waterboy

I think he knows if he gets the job here it just gets him back in the door, he stays a few years and then leaves, Yes he has a winning record, but the guy is scum. There a lot of college coaches be rumored, but who says we don’t look at some one from the NFL? I think if Mitch does hire Petrino, Mitch leaves in a few years himself. I really think Dykes would be the best choice for UK, the guy can put up major points and make the game exciting.

  158. JOhn

Need to give petrino a chance, just saying

  159. barn

hahahah. i could never look at that guy on the sideline without thinking of that picture. what was he thinking when he allowed himself to be seen like that. he may be able to coach but he’s just a f***up.

  160. SeoulCat

#157, all coaches leave at some point. Even if Petrino leaves after a few years, you can be sure that he will have won quite a few games and raised the profile of our program by the time he exits stage left. If Cal left tomorrow, would you not be thankful for what he’s done for us in his three seasons in the Bluegrass? Ideally, you want a coach who stays and wins for extended periods of time, but a winning coach who only stays for 3-4 years is better than settling for mediocrity or losing.

  161. Jorts

    Hire him now!!!!!!!!
I was kicked off frosty’s site for calling Harrelson Jorts

  162. kingrex

I guarantee you this is just a ploy to jump start his recruitment to a better position next year in the SEC. This is the way it works sadly.

  163. kingrex

I live in Atlanta and he came here just to coach Vick, but when the dogfighting charges came about he announced he would stay and then 24 hours later was at a press conference in Arkansas. He wanted to be the guy that took advantage of Vick’s unique talents and when Vick was suspended he just left. It was shocking behavior. I also believe he has absolutely no relationship with any of his players. Maybe that would be okay if he was a decent guy and a little shy, but he does not seem to be a good person.

  164. Alan Cutler's mustache

Petrino is Kentucky’s best and only chance to build a winning program, at the present time.

Everyone else is a huge down grade.

If Mitch was smart enough to hire him, UK would win right away and go bowling next season.

If Petrino left after three years, Kentucky would have gone o three bowl games in a row and all of them wouldn’t be the bupkiss bowl for barely having a
winning season. UK would be in great shape to get a “marquee name” the next time around.

If Petrino stays, he will be a Kentucky legend. Why? If you have to ask that question, you are dumber than a box of rocks. The answer: Petrino can win at Kentucky, where everyone else will fail.

This is a huge milestone in Barnharts career and legacy. If he hires Petrino, he will go down as the best AD that UK has ever seen. If he hires some assistant and has to fire him after three years, all the upgrading in the world of the non revenue sports may no save his job.

  165. Kenny H

I heard Bobby Petrino saw that model on the motorcycle at the telethon And called and made avid and then decided he wants the UK job.

  166. maddogmitchell55

Petrino might leave after 3 or 4 winning seasons? Probably any coach who is not an alum of UK will leave for a Notre Dame or Florida-type of program with a winning football tradition. In Petrino’s case, where he is looking to redeem himself from national embarrassment, UK could actually put a clause in where he has to pay UK if he doesn’t finish out his contract. And it would have to be more than $100K or $200K. It would have to be $1 million or more.

Petrino and Coach Cal might not be able to coexist? I guarantee Coach Cal would love to have a winning football program to give him yet another tool in his ridiculously large recruiting toolbox. Besides that, basketball is king at UK. If there ever was a clash and it got bad then the football coach, no matter who it is, would be the one signing up for unemployment. Coach Cal is the best college coach there is right now. In any sport. You can make a case for Nick Saban, but he would be about the only one. I don’t think there would be a problem anyway because both could help each other, especially with recruiting.

3rd and most important question. Is BBN really willing to take the pits-of-hell heat that will surely come our way for wanting Barnhart to hire Petrino and then being glad it happens when(if) Barnhart does hire him? It will be absolutely crazy. Everyone will say we sold our soul simply to have a winning football program. Does BBN really think it will be worth it?

  167. A D

Lets get him now. How many coaches don’t have something on the side. He just took it to the next level by hiring her and getting caught.

  168. CatSinceBirth

If he wants to coach at UK, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind some strict language in his contract to protect UK. He should realize that UK will be scrutinized, and no one else is after him, so I can’t imagine he would against a strongly worded contract to protect the university. If he would agree, come on down. He would be an instant winner.

  169. Fecesforbrains

He isn’t my choice but… It is a proven fact (ala curry) choir boys cant compete in the sec … Alumnist who try to portray an image of a choir boy (long way from it) … Can’t win in the sec.. Petrino may very well be a tremendous hire … BUT he has to be tied up down and crossways( more than his dominatrix can imagine) contractually so if and when he walks out it will not only cost him personally but whoever takes him… His contract needs to be heavily loaded on the back end and also paid on performance… That would prove immediately if he wants a job at UK … Just my .02

  170. Big Daddy

Mitch should be all over this. Petrino doesn’t give a rats ass about facilities. I know many who worked for him say this to be true. He is a football coach. Exactly what we need. He only cares about the product on the field.

  171. Big Daddy

Everyone worried about him leaving in a couple years, who cares. Gives us a step up and then more coaches will want to follow.

  172. mojo-cat

If we don’t hire him UT WILL and they will win big. No brainer…the best coach available just CALLED US OUT. GET IT DONE MITCH. UK fans have waited too long….

  173. BleedRed

You have to hire the guy. There is no doubt he made things exciting here. Funny the guys talking about him leaving after a few seasons and he has no loyalty, where is your loyalty with Joker? Don’t get on the man for leaving for something better when you are doin the same thing with Joker. Hire Petrino, get your wins and ride it while it last. Difference is yall are in the SEC, if he wins big there he has no where else to go like he did with us. He actually might have a chance at a NC there where it would have taken quite a few things happening for it to happen here.

Also, to those guys calling the people saying they would stop watching preachers, you have a false view of true Christians. A Christian would be the first to look past the sins, sorry you have been exposed to religious people and not followers of Jesus.

  174. Easy

Petrino hire = 60k sold plus season tickets

    Equals wins

    Equals more money

  175. jarshoe

My first impression of UK’s new president is that he would never sign off on this hire. Maybe Mitch would be open to giving him a shot, but I definitely don’t think Eli would. My impression of him is that he is an academician who would prefer not having to deal with athletics at all, much less have to deal with the PR issues this hire would cause.

  176. putinrichie

The problem is that the goals of the UK administration is not in line with many of the goals of BBN. This isn’t just Mitch, but also Eli, Sandy Bell, and many others. Both the UK administration and fans want to win and both want a great coach. I also think they are willing to spend money on the right coach. However, the UK administration is not willing to change many of the things surrounding the program that hinder football recruiting. Our facilities are lagging behind our SEC counterparts and most importantly they do not want another CAL.

Don’t get me wrong. They like CAL. They like the atmosphere he has created around the program, but they don’t want a football coach that tries to do the kind of things that CAL does. It is much easier to monitor CAL when he essentially maintains a roster of 8 scholarship players and a few walk-ons than a football program that uses all 85 scholarship players. The UK administration wants a coach that wins and generates the support of “BBN” but they also want one that is low maintenance, doesn’t ask for much, and does everything by the book. CAL is the opposite of that. CAL is high maintenance, asks for the moon, and pushes the envelope and that is a large reason why he is so successful. CAL is a big thinker and not the status quo. The UK administration wants someone who is a “status quo” hire that can both win and make the fans happy. That is why Petrino won’t get the job. He is not the status quo.

  177. AaronJ

    [CLICK] here for hire

  178. rainman

If you’re goal is to be a laughing stock, may as well
go all the way! Go ahead hire him, but I’ll never watch
another game! So in some ways you’ll be doing me a favor!

Not to metion how this will divide an already divided fanbase!

  179. Tickets are gone

Mitch better hire or interview Bobby. If he doesn’t at least interview him Mitch had to go.

  180. rainman

One possitive in this, if you hire him now, he’ll be gone by Jan!

  181. Fecesforbrains

Ih and another thought … Read war as they knew it. The story of woody and Bo two iconic proven winners and u liberal everyone gets a hug and a trophy pissants will see football coaches GREAT ones are a hard driving rough around the edges breed… Not rainbow coalition here’s a hand out Barry O freaks

  182. AaronJ

Seems like a no brainer to me, two negatives make a positive right?

The state of Kentucky football couldn’t be much worse.
And we we have to get into what Petrino did?

He will be able to clear his name here at UK and get us to win games again. Plus it would make UL really mad just like what they did to us when they hired Pitino.

  183. maddogmitchell55

170 – Are you Bobby Petrino? Big Daddy who happens to like smokin hot young blondes? Just asking…

Why am I excited at the prospect of UK and Petrino? When his name first come up I was totally against it. Is it because I desperately want UK football to win? Is it because I see this subject is approaching 200 comments while the other articles on KSR right now will be lucky to have 50 and the overwhelming majority wants Petrino, too? I know that makes me a backslider, but I still find myself at peace with UK and Petrino. Kentucky football at 8-5 or 9-4 after a bowl game makes feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And 10-3? I would sh!t my slacks!

Would we be selling our souls or simply offering a guy a second chance? Or third, depending on how you view the Atlanta situation. Could he recruit as well now with a tarnished reputation? Ricky P. seems to be doing alright. Pitino wasn’t starting at a new school because he was fired for lying, though. Would he get a bunch of troublemakers? His players at Arkansas have had several off the field issues this season. But, he isn’t there with them now so has that made a difference? Did his Louisville players have a bunch of off the field issues?

Yeah, Petrino has had some drama in his past. Is the ridicule that BBN will surely get worth giving him another chance? I won’t be sad if Barnhart says no, but if he does hire him I’ll support him. As long as he stays drama free. Above all else, one thing no one can say is that he cheats. He runs a clean program which is paramount at Kentucky.

  184. bleaker

I GUARANTEE you that Matt Jones is a bigger headache to work with than Petrino. Hire this guy NOW.

  185. popcorn

Petrino has lied, manipulated, and valued himself over every employer he’s worked for. He’s also won.

If winning is more important than our dignity, he is easily the best candidate.

  186. Twill

I don’t think he’ll be able to recruit as well after his incident. All the media covered it. Will people want to play for him and will parents want their kids there?

  187. Buckets

Gotta say, the guy can coach. Hire him. Do it yesterday.

  188. Tired of Being 1 of 12 games

Matt, you have got to give it a rest about knowing what is best for UK football. You have said that you expect UK to lose every game anyway. You go on the a radio saying it is the worst job in America. I know someone that worked with Petrino both times he worked at UL, and they said that he was very organized, but nothing like BillyG crap.

  189. Wildcats Dominate

Look at all you “fans” clamoring for this hire. If we hire this man, who has now left 3…let me repeat that…3 schools worse off, lied and cheated on his wife, repeatedly lied to his AD’s, disappeared from an NFL job in the middle of the night, well then we are proving all of those UofL fans right, that all we care about is winning.

There is no argument that Petrino is not a cheat, liar or anything else. No debate.

Just blows my mind that we can sit here as a fanbase and talk about the class of Joker and how much we wish he had won so that he could continue to be our coach, and then sit here and beg Petrino to come. Stupid, stupid fans.

And let’s be honest, most of us know that if Petrino had his choice, he’ll be at Auburn, so when this doesn’t work out guess who everyone gets to complain about more? Barnhart. Just dumb.

I know I’m only one, and not even a season ticket holder, but UK loses a true blue fan if they hire Petrino.

  190. Twill

Also if they hired him, we’d be going from one extreme to the other. Joker, a nice classy guy. To petrino, a sleaze bag. He might be a disaster trying to mesh with what we have.

  191. Beavis

Not a fan of Petrino but the guy can coach and his teams show steady improvement every year ( unlike what has happened at Uk the last three years ) Hire him Mitch,,,,just be careful how you word the contract. Maybe write it up so if he leaves after four years,,,,he owes the University money. LOL

  192. Tired of Being 1 of 12 games

UL was not left worse off. The next coach that they hired made them worse. Arkansas would have been a national champ contender if he coached them, instead of John L..

  193. Cardfan

You fans have a record. Called Calapari a snake, cheater, and whatever else until he came to coach here. Now he’s God. You have always said the same thing about Petrino too. Oddly enough, he said the same thing about UK…but he is a snake and a liar. Fooled Louisville, Atlanta, and Arkansas. Best of luck. You’ll win, no doubt. But at what cost?

Actually, you guys are perfect for one another. All hypocrites.

  194. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

You hire the best coach available and Petrino is the man and he is wonting the job instant success. The Ad puts clauses in contract to take care of the distractions and #116 says it all you need to know!

  195. catfish

You hire him now. Let’s be honest, Cal doesn’t have the best past and no ones crying get rid of him around here. This is the only way UK will become relevant in the toughest football conference. After he starts winning, we all know we will all be backing him 100%. It would be a home run hire. If we hire any of those other jokers, we will be in the same boat 3 years from now. Let’s move forward.

  196. Twill

Mitch ain’t gonna hire him anyway. Remember his big speal about being a classy program? If he turns around and hires this guy I’d be completely shocked.

  197. Islandgirl13

Are you kidding me right now?? I have read every post on this and I don’t understand what’s wrong with some of you people. First off you say you’re sick of losing so get rid of Joker no matter what. Joker is gone then you talk about how awesome he was but he just wasn’t the right one for the job cause he can’t win. Next you say we need a big name HC who will WIN at all costs and the names who have been mentioned are just not big enough. Now Petrino shows interest but you don’t want him due to loose morals and attitude problems. COME ON do you want us to win or do not? These kids play their hearts out and get crushed by teams they could compete with given direction. Do they not deserve a chance to win?
I live in the South where football is all that matters. We are a joke in the SEC – that can change. I grew going to UK football games and my family still have their season tickets and attend all home games. MB has to move quick on finding us a coach – he’s not an idiot. There will probably be 3 other SEC schools who will be hiring at the end of the season as well. If we don’t get Petrino someone else will and we will be losing to him. Our kids deserve a chance to have a relevant football program. Our kids deserve to hold their heads high on that field and know they have a chance for a WIN on GAMEDAY.
Stop being so negative about Petrino and give the man a second chance. We have enough negativity surrounding the situation. Fans quit going to games and let their tickets go so we could get a winning coach. Well here he is folks. Put your personal judgments aside and think about the players for a second cause you damn sure weren’t thinking of them when you stopped showing up to support them at our home games…

  198. TheRightFit

Hire the man, it’s not about the money to him. He wants to coach, we need a coach. It’s the right fit! He needs us and we need him! He’s ready to restart his life, he won’t leave.
    Pull the trigger baby!

  199. Wildcatfan52

I can’t believe this many fans put winning over everything else. Our whole society is losing all
Of our morals and values. Look at the crap we have winning our political parties. I say no. W
Can find someone with character that can win.

  200. Twill

    I still like Sonny Dykes

  201. Catfish

#199, do you support coach cal? I thought so.

  202. Juanita Broadrick

Hire him yesterday. Mitch took a chance on home run hire in Cal. Personally don’t think Cal was chancy. It is the one for sure hire to start winning again immediately

  203. Mitch Please!

  204. BGKY Dave

I smile when I see this and I am excited and scared to death all at the same time. Hummm same feeling I had about Cal. Im 51% for it and 49% scared of the hire. Hey at least he WANTS the job and that feels good. Stand tall BBN football fans. WE are in the SEC which is an awesome conferance!

  205. Beavis

Whats wrong with winning ? Its obvious we have not put winning as a first priority,,,look at the last three years.

  206. Phat Wreck

Great post #197….BP is a top 5 college coach period. He’s reaching out to US! To the holier than thou fans, c ya! We don’t need you…this is big business and takes big risk taking to be successful. Let’s all get around the tree of trust here and be honest, UK head coach is NOT a desirable job. It is the 2nd worst job in the SEC. We are being handed a winning powerball ticket but are afraid to cash it in!

  207. Some Guy in Kentucky

I hear Neil Brown’s agent told UK to call Petrino.

  208. popcorn

If UK hires Petino, he will be interviewing from day 1. The best scenario is that he leaves before he totally embarrasses the University. The only winners in this are the CJ and Petrino’s leverage when negotiating with better schools. But the sugar high is nice, isn’t it?

  209. bigcat76

Sounds like Dad is getting tired of you living an his basement sneaking whores in and out the window.

  210. auburn bound

My prediction: MB waits around for a month to call Petrino (after every other decent option turns us down) then, those who want Petrino at UK get excited that “talks have began”….then Auburn calls and Petrino says, “see ya!” If we are going to get Petrino, we don’t need to be waiting around for some clown in division 2 who had a winning record 14 years ago to make a decision after the season ends. Poop or get off the toilet!

  211. Tebkats

Petrino would be here today and then gone tomorrow. Need someone who will stay and built the program.

  212. mojo-cat

We have already went down this road when we hired Cal. Now EVERYONE can agree that Calipari was the perfect hire. Unless Mitch has a hall of fame coach in waiting he HAS TO PURSUE PETRINO. Give him a strict contract loaded with performance bonuses and see if PETRINO is serious or using us to bait bigger SEC fish (UT).

  213. Chane behanan

You hire him. Point blank. Period.

  214. popcorn

Calipari wants to be here, and its all about the kids first.

Petrino doesn’t want to be anywhere but Alabama or LSU or Florida, and its all about him.

Just because people criticized Cal and it worked out doesn’t mean the same for Petrino. If Petrino comes here, it will be weekly rumors of interviews and secret flights. If he’s hired, the over/under on total games coached here will be about 18.

I would buy season tickets tomorrow, if they hired a man that knows how to win.

  216. Tired of Being 1 of 12 games

When Petrino left UL and Arkansas, the next year each team was preseason top 10 in the country.

  217. Cards

HAHAHAHAA just another corrupt Kentucky coach in the long line of them… so sad, UK will sell their soul for wins in basketball and football. Pathetic.

  218. Elvis

The king says uh huh nothin better what winning FB games… Well that and peanut butter an banana sandwiches & jump suits

  219. Catfish

So what if he leaves after 4 years. After we start winning and actually competing in the SEC, don’t you think we will be able to land a top tier coach? Right now, this may be the only shot of landing 1of the best in the country after being the joke in the conference. We start winning, more buzz about the program, BBN finally supports the program like the basketball program…..BAM…. A recipe for all coaches to want to land at UK. Hire him and see what happens..Finally a way to get out of this hole we have always been in, and it might be the last chance. Mitch, get it done…PLEASE

  220. mojo-cat

Yeah …let’s NOT HIRE HIM because he will win and others will come calling. This is UK football..if we ever have a decent coach others will call them.GET THIS DONE MITCH.

  221. kychilly

Hire him, put a zero tolerance clause in the contract and if he walks in two years he gets “0”. Just imagine what the corporate world look like if everyone who had an affair lost their job and didn’t get a second chance. Plus all the UL fans i am around are a nervous wreck we hire him, that is worth whatever.

  222. ReallyDon'tCare

You bunch of goodie two shoes, we need a winning coach! I don’t want to hear people bringing
up the man’s past! It don’t matter, we need to win now! I don’t care if he leaves, which I don’t think he will. The footprint he puts on us, will be positive. We need instant results!

  223. Catfish

What a change of pace. A football coach at UK that everyone else wants after he’s winning. I would love to have that problem….

  224. fb>bb

Recruiting is more important than coaching and he won’t have any credibility walking into homes. Other coaches will destroy him in recruiting.

  225. popcorn

219 — He will never stay for 4 years at UK

  226. Tim

Hey, my cousin’s best friend said Petrino’s wife was in Lexington yesterday morning looking at houses and his mistress was in Lexington last night looking for an apartment!!!! LMFAO!!!

  227. kfund

If he is hired I’m done buying tickets.

  228. K fund

Well buddy unless your top 50.. I’m probably higher than u… I have 32 season tickets and Katie and people at k fund!! I’m gonna buy more and give more than my 100,000 annual
Across the board if we hire Petrino.. I’m so excited! Hire bobby see you guys Friday!

  229. bigbluejon

Calipari + Petrino? We would be the laughingstock of the nation.

  230. Dolfan66r

Barnhart will never hire Petrino! He should but he wont. He will pray about it and I doubt God will tell him to hire Petrino! GOD doesnt care about football. He is a basketball fan!!

  231. jhnny

#224 You have no idea what you are talking about. First, he immediately puts UK back in the game with the best recruits in the state (read-Trinity). Secondly, what will other coaches use against him? That he had an affair? Somehow that hasn’t hurt other coaches, including Rick Pitino.

Lets stop bickering about this- its silly. He is easily the best coach available. Hire him!

  232. What the crap

People are talking about character issues and acting like they don’t want Bobby—-same people who love coach Cal?????
Wow.. Talk about hypocrites…. You really are… Really
Bobby is probably top 3 coach in the nation..
For sure a top 5…… Idiots

  233. Beavis

    # 217 Your post is a joke ,,right ?? If Pitino was at any other schools other the Louisville,,,,his ass would have been fired. Lying,,,affair,,,indiscretion,,,and to top it all of,,,,he only lasted 15 seconds. You people must be proud.

  234. Donnie Mallburg

So your saying you could have Cal coaching basketball… Petrino coaching football.. And some people aren’t for it……
That’s beyond insane…. We would be big time across the board!

  235. Dolfan66r

#74 – Really??? UL hired Pitino before he cheated on his wife. He was having a regular rendezvous with a woman here in Louisville when he was the UK coach. Everybody knew it.

  236. Chuck

Sure Petrino won at UL, with Brohm, Bush and playing a weak schedule. He also beat a very bad Wake Forest team in the Orange Bowl. His record at the Falcons was 3-10. He had a very good QB at Arkansas. What type of assistants would he bring with him and could he recruit with what happened with him in Atlanta and Arkansas? I just think he has too much baggage following him. Is he a better football mind than Dykes, Smart, Helfrich or Koetter who are younger and have no baggage following them? If you’re a parent of a recruit which person would you want your son to play for?

  237. Todd

The decision to make is do we want a nice guy coach that will will 4-6 games a year or a not so nice guy coach to win 7-9 games a year. What do you want to see.

  238. Catfish

This is the only shot we have at one of the best, pull the trigger….. And it might very well be the only shot.

  239. kingrex

On second thought after reading the full interview with his father, I have decided Petrino falls somewhere on the autism spectrum. The eery ability to remember interiors of all recruits’ houses as child while on the road with his dad, the inability to connect with players and the supernatural ability to be an offensive guru. This could explain his bizarre behavior over the years as he leaves jobs suddenly without any thought for promises, fans or players. I remember reading after he left about how almost no Falcon player had actually spoken to him. If he is on the autism spectrum then this explains his behavior and hence makes hiring him much easier.

  240. Bear Bryant

don’t make the same mistake you made when you let me get away. Hire Bobby!!

  241. Jughead

Hire him if you want UK football to be relevant.

  242. barn

what’s the latest on the unc ‘investigation’?

  243. 89Skin

    Get your popcorn ready…

  244. popcorn

236 — Petrino wins 4-5 games with this team, this year. He’s that good. The only problem? He will be a total headache, he will alienate if the rabid fans, and he will leave before he coaches 2 full seasons.

Yes, Ark and UofL were top 10 the year after he left but neither made a bowl game the year he left…

  245. BlueSuave

    It’s a done deal.

  246. Head Bussa

I’ve been saying this non-stop from the day Joker was fired and I’m not going to let it go just because Matt says so. Those of us who really understand football know how important it is to get Petrino if we can. It’s not easy to be a top-notch coach and change a program’s fortunes, but some people just got “it” — and Petrino is one. The guy knows how to compete with the very best and can “coach up” like no other. In addition, Bobby runs a tight ship. The kids will be disciplined and will get good grades or else. The guy doesn’t play around. I can’t imagine more of a home run hire that will give Kentucky INSTANT NATIONAL CREDIBILITY. Also, can you name another hire in which we can flip the momentum on Louisville so quickly?

NO. I cannot support Petrino. He’s a crook and a scumbag and he left the Falcons before his first season was over! What makes you think he won’t cut and run from UK if another school comes calling?

  248. Harlan

Why would we not hire him? This is the SEC we are playing in. Nice guys don’t fill a stadium. Petrino wins and would fill up CWS. Revenue will skyrocket. It’s time we actually played with the big boys.

  249. What's Next?

    Petino to UofL….oh wait.

  250. Reality

    Petrino = Billy G
